  1. And they may very well be. The show ring is also full of good looking feet. But the modern greyhound has been bred to sprint a short distance on a carefully manicured surface. A lurcher has to run where the quarry leads.
  2. And if 800 yds is considered a marathon then stamina will be another, but I never actually said a greyhound had none of the highlighted qualities. I said these were more important attributes than speed in a lurcher which is already fast enough.
  3. I'm no Thatcherite but the last period of Tory gov. inherited a weak economy and passed on a strong economy, which has been squandered by Labour. There's no point blaming the doctor for the bitter taste of the medicine. B Liar has done ok for himself financially since leaving number ten but he made sure the public would never see his expenses bill before he left.
  4. I'll try to explain why few of these comps could be held in the north. Two years ago in the summertime a pal from the North east of England and myself were sitting in a field with a few pups running around us for an hour or so watching a helicopter circling overhead. It transpired that some socialy aware wanker had reported us for bringing "hunting type dogs" onto the land and although we had permission to be there, the powers that be had deemed it necessary to pay for the expense of a chopper to eyeball us for over an hour. That was under the last labour gov by the way.
  5. Is that J.K.'s son or the S.K. that lives inthe North?
  6. They only do the ferreting game now since 05 so I wouldn't like to hazard a guess . From Northern Ireland at the moment I would back gorger with Lucas based only on what I've heard.
  7. I think everyone would need to line up behind A.S. with Blondie and C.N. with Foxy. Close to the head of the queue would be J.T. with Sniper and M.P. with Lucky. Just my opinion.
  8. A dog doesn't have to be running for money to show it's quality. The hare neither knows nor cares whether you're betting on the outcome,.....it's running for it's life every time. Any dog that can go from Belfast to the fens and kill 20 out of 21 hares run after christmas is worth £500 a jump if you have a quality bitch to line. If the law was repealed I'd certainly be at your door gorger, but the thought of rearing one up only to have it confiscated because I am now to old and hobbled to keep on top of the action alas puts me off, lol. At the end of the day if someone doesn't want to use L
  9. Just remind me again who sent them out there based on a lie in the first place! The cuts were coming no matter which party gained power. Any one of us knows that if you spend more than you earn you run out of money in the end. If Labour had squandered less money on non jobs for disabled, lesbian, ethnic minority outreach workers paying £35,000 a year in order to build a huge, government dependent public service and therefore grow their electoral support base, there'd be more money left for the essentials. I'm not a natural tory supporter by the way....born in a ghetto in Belfast. My ol
  10. p3d I like your logic. The fighting dogs of Ireland were well documented in the history of the A.P.B.T. and they were of the same type that travelled to the new world from all over the British Isles and from further afield....smooth coated strong headed bulldog types. Can you imagine these squat, elongated glens competing with dogs such as Daleys Ned or the early Colby dogs. If they could have done so why were none of these dogs taken to the U.S.A. at the same time? We have to remember that the so called histories for the k.c. breeds are formulated by the breed clubs at the time when the
  11. Yes storm70, I bought her about 20 years ago from her breeder in England. She was out of a greyhound bitch mated to a saluki dog and had her career cut short due to injury. Thats why I believe the best to best lurcher to lurcher or lurcher to saluki is the way to go. If I was breeding for racing dogs I'd breed greyhounds or hardbloods. Hunting dogs only need to be fast enough. Stamina, prey drive, durability, good feet and a cunning brain are more important imho.
  12. It's called tribalism. Just as a Nottingham Forest supporter won't change teams when they get relegated for example, nor will a dyed in the wool socialist, or Tory easily switch camps in the face of economic reality. I prefer rational thought to group think myself.
  13. The difference between winners and losers on the track is fractions of a second which means nothing in the field. I would be more inclined to use a dog that was injury free and honest over a long career than a flying machine that was retired early through injury........if I didn't have access to a decent lurcher that was already doing the job.
  14. They've been here 150 years and there's no record of hybridization up to now. I can't imagine they've suddenly changed. We hunted out that way many years ago and caught both types on the same day but never a halfer. Sounds like some breathless young environmentalist fishing for a research grant to me.
  15. Attack F T, I agree with you entirely. Bread and cheese are digested at different rates but we all eat cheese (or tuna, chicken, ham etc.) sandwiches. The dinner plate contains foods which all have different rates of absorbtion from mashed spuds that begin to convert their starches to sugar on contact with saliva, to steak from which the protien is only broken down in the stomach and the fats which are mainly absorbed from the gut. As the dry food contains the same food types, carbs, proteins and fats, it seems that these component parts of the diet will be absorbed at the rate the dogs diges
  16. You have to laugh at these lefties blaming the coalition for the cuts. Thats like blaming the surgeon for cutting out the cancer caused by years of smoking. Whichever government got in was going to have to make cuts but lets not forget it was 13 years of Labour that created the debt that makes cuts necessary
  17. I hate parasites....go for it pal
  18. The stud fee isn't the issue, the bigotry agin those of us who live in Northern Ireland is and it's not the first snidey remark from this individual.
  19. Here she is Joey x Dancer
  20. Welcome to the forum Chalkie
  21. I agree with you on that one Roberto and have had the same discussion with A.S. myself. However good a bitch Blondie was it was Dancer who produced her though, and I think that helps sway the argument in her favour for Alan. All the dogs on your list were stand out dogs themselves and would probably be expected to produce a higher than average quality of offspring, but standout dogs only come along once in a while. I wouldn't expect one in every litter, but would hope that the quality of every litter was above average.
  22. That was during the twilight years pal, when we had both moved house and changed phones.
  23. You told me some pal had told you it would be no good for Ireland as it had ears like a spaniel. That's neither here nor there. I bred the litter to get something to hunt with, not to engage in dick measuring contests with other dog men. Gambling on the outcome of a hunt would spoil the whole point of the excercise for me. As Karlsberg says, it's all about enjoying the runs, both dog and hare. But that doesn't mean I can't appreciate the quality of another mans dog who does run for money.
