  1. Very true And if you don't know any shoots locally, or the keepers have enough beaters??? What then LL?? Give the lad a chance - he is only looking for an opportunity to live the life that so many never find, but one that I am so very glad I did. Keep trying borderboys OTC
  2. Sorry John - forgot to mention that bit. OTC
  3. It will probably cost you more in the long run and save time with all that fiddling but if you have time to spare then have a go. I don't think they would be truly legal to use though as they are not specified in the Spring Traps Approval Order. OTC
  4. That could turn out to be an expensive way to rid yourself of a cat if you get caught using poison as it is highly illegal, not to mention non-selective. I have caught quite a few moggies in cages over the years and some come quietly and others sing out (especially Siamese and Burmese). Just check the trap regularly and it shouldn't be too much of a problem. If you push them out into a sack and tie the neck they will lie quietly enough until you deal with them in your chosen way OTC
  5. Or get it sent to me and I will bring it with me when I come over . . . PM me for my new address if you want it OTC
  6. Cheers Foxtrack - maybe we'll cross paths on the hills one day OTC
  7. PM Moley on here or try Solway Feeders Ltd - only use genuine Fenn's - there are a lot of cheap inferior brands (not legal either) on the market. OTC
  8. If you look inside the box you will see that the main chips have had their top numbers scratched off by Deben to avoid competitors copying the design and sharing the market. Without the chip numbers it is pretty fruitless trying to build one, if you know anyone on the 'inside' at Deben then they would, so I am told, be easy to make. The transmitter collars however are a different kettle of fish . . . it is just easier to get those direct from Deben. OTC
  9. No they were made that way trust me! OTC
  10. Now you're just teasing me Chalkwarren . . . . :tongue4: OTC
  11. It also coincides with when the bucks are at their most knackered from bucking and let the outsider bucks into the buries bringing with them the infection and the fleas. July/Aug is always the worst time for it. I have seen a lot about this year mind, it seems to be all over. OTC
  12. Here you go foxtrack (and you non-believers!) Sorry it is not a great pic but it illustrates the point well enough - the tongue and plate works from the opposite side as you can see (left handed trap second from the right obviously) I hope this helps OTC
  13. I haven't got one on this PC unfortunately and my camera is on the blink so bear with me and I will get the pics of both left and right hand traps for you to see. OTC
  14. They were made for left handers, but not many were made in the grand scheme of things compared to the conventional 'right handed' traps. Some were repaired by 'keepers and the bridge of the trap was put on the wrong side though. OTC
  15. I suppose it doesn't take a genius to work my name out I collect Old Traps - simple as that OTC
  16. Stabs, I have been away from home for a few days (and my trap collection) but on having a quick look, having just got back, at what the other gin trap was it is obvious (to me anyway!) that it is a 'Down-Ee' trap made by W Downey of Sydney, Aus. OTC
  17. Stabs, The big one is a Dingo trap made by Lane in Newcastle, NSW - and I think the smaller one is a common rabbit gin whose maker escapes my memory right now but it will come to me, but again was Aussie made. OTC
  18. I still have my old LR9 and battery in the shed somewhere, it was a winning combination in its day OTC
  19. I have just come back in after helping with a few big old oak trees that had fallen in the lane due to the really strong winds and thought to myself it would be a great night to have a shine around or run the long net. Who's going out?? OTC
  20. Lovely looking pup isn't he? I don't think you will have any trouble homing him OTC
  21. Think about it LL - what do I collect? OTC
  22. Birdnesting was the spring time crime, fishing for tench in the summer before the pool owner used to get up, and then ferreting and trapping anything that walked all Autumn and Winter. That just about took up my year! Oh, and making 'bombs' from gunpowder from the old man's Eley paper case cartridges, scaring the kids in the street with crow bangers, pinching fruit and veg from the allotments, sniping chickens and pheasants with the catty . . . shall I go on?
