  1. You dont learn do you. Whatever next . . . . . . ?? OTC
  2. This is obvious - please keep your uneducated ideas to yourself then so you don't inadvertedly give someone else the wrong impression Read all you want - there is a huge wealth of hundreds of years experience in this and other fields on here - just think before you type please. Sermon over OTC
  3. MT I agree with you - the messing about that a bipod would entail would be unnecessary - I have always shot off a single stick and never had any problems. I wouldn't leave home without it. Bipods are ok for zeroing but are just gimmicky incumbrances in the shooting field IMO Ditch - stick to your gateposts mate OTC
  4. What? You mean a self locking wire? Totally illegal LL - I don't want to dampen your enthusiasm but if you really don't know anything about a subject then you are better off not posting an opinion or comment on it. It can only lead to problems for yourself and for the unfortunate owner of the post who might take your offering as gospel. This is a prime example. Self locking snares are illegal for all quarry in the UK, and shop bought rubbish rabbit wires are simply not up to the job of snaring mink. OTC
  5. Here's a sorely missed old ferreting partner from years gone by . . . She was a first X border x whip, and the best rabbiting dog I have ever owned OTC
  6. PM Woodga - he'll sort you out no problem OTC
  7. The sound of steady rainfall, a whining lurcher pup and a house sparrow chirping under the eaves . . . OTC
  8. Looks like a Yellow Wagtail to me - I have one under the stone bridge by the stream near here OTC
  9. I am very pleased with her, and she's settled in great already. Not too much whining so far! OTC
  10. I will bring you a load of flannellette as well as the oil, rods, brushes and pull throughs when I visit you next OTC
  11. Mine too - all straight away as soon as the beast is picked up. I could understand a slight delay if the beast had to be carried off in a hurry for one reason or another  but as soon as possible when you are on the right side of the fence is preferable. OTC
  12. I think it is in one of the clippings I have in my archives from some long passed publication that I have scanned and sent on to you but I will have to check to be sure. I think I know where to look OTC
  13. Ditch, If you bench rest it to get a zero it will produce different groups than when you fire it naturally - it is all to do with harmonics. You need to take well aimed shots to group and zero, not any one else as everyone's aim and eye is different, and they need to be taken in a stable natural hold not bench rested or you will have to do it yet again (unless you want to take the workmate out shooting with you?) OTC
  14. I have to say it was quick - I went in mid morning and was out and on my way home by mid-afternoon, but as Fellman says it is very painful for a while as they bruise you pretty badly stuffing everything back where it should be and the stitches are in your stomach wall which tends to tense up when you do anything at all. OTC
  15. I have been there - I had an inguinal hernia repair about 6 years ago. The pain was pretty bad like a pulling in your guts and a throbbing in your groin. I could pop the whole bundle of stuff back in through the hole internally but one cough and it was all out again. I went in for 'keyhole' surgery but came out with a 7 inch scar - must have been a big key! Make sure they reinforce the repair with mesh as that stops it happening again. I was initally off work for a fortnight but it ended up being 4 weeks, and then only to light work, no lifting or stress. It still aches occasionally now though
  16. Without arse licking too much one of my inspirations has been Ditch for many reasons; least of all being able to drone on for hours over the years about traps, traps and more traps with a likeminded soul. Really the most inspiring character in my life has been my father for showing me 'dad' things like fishing, bird nesting, fire lighting and for making me cry with laughter with his inventions over the years when he has been cost-cutting to save pennies in the name of fieldsports - the wooden snare maker and the pigeon magnet were two particularly hilarious episodes. And my first 'keep
  17. My hearing in my left ear is pretty poor compared to my right - something to do with years of shooting the shotgun without ear defenders. Suffice to say it is pointless me trying to listen to the phone in my left ear but I have not got the whining or whistling. Yet OTC
  18. I do have both photos and a description somewhere in the library vaults Ditch - I will dig them out when I get chance and post them - I am away from my home pc and scanner at the moment I cannot remember exactly but don't think the figure-4 stone deadfall is right though - I think it was a drop door stone and slate box trap if my memory serves me right. Whichever it is I will have photos or pics somewhere OTC
  19. These pups are well bred and from working stock, both parents on show, kept and reared well. I cannot wait to collect my bitch pup on Friday - don't be disappointed, PM coyote for a chance to own a true first X rabbit catching machine. OTC
  20. Blando, Yes I have one of those, they were good traps in their day and were made shortly before they were banned by William Glover of Wednesfield. Thanks for taking the time to check - it is appreciated OTC
  21. The chicks will tell you if it is too hot or too cold - if they pile up right under the centre of the heat then they are too cold, and if they move as far away as they can it is too hot. Just right is when they are under the circle of heat and don't mind nipping across the light cast on the shavings base. Make the area circular otherwise they will pile up in a corner if given half a chance and trample/suffocate each other to death. OTC
  22. I was beaten to them unfortunately mate , not to worry - there will be others about I have no doubt Keep looking! OTC
  23. BUMP BUMP Can anyone else help me out with any old traps? Anything considered, including old price lists and catalogues featuring traps OTC
  24. I thought they were gull chicks, just shows what I know, eh? OTC
