  1. WH, I was up there a few weeks back and the hillsides were running with coneys, some easy catches out of the juncas rush for Storm no doubt! Good luck boys OTC
  2. Really?? That's a hell of a lot of worms for such a small animal, are you sure that's right Oli?? OTC
  3. Try stainless steel wire cable, no rust then!! Hammered nuts and a small washer do the job well enough for me, on the swivel or eyelet end, not had a fox pull out yet! OTC
  4. I have just given a little thought back in time to a few tunnels I once made for myself for my Fenn 4's. They were 6 inch wide x inch planks about 18 inches long, attached to the top of the plank was a tin arch, nailed to the sides of the plank. I made the arches out of 'wriggly tin' hammered out flat to create the arch shape (think long Everitt tunnel Ditch). I wonder if the same idea would work for the BG's, if the tunnel was square not arch shaped, with a snipped out side slit for access and spring expansion? I reckon they would work a treat. Not as lightweight and portable as a wel
  5. I'm not the best person to ask about BG's, John. I never caught on to them and they came after my time catching vermin on a large scale. I always used the Fenn traps almost exclusively, with the odd Juby or Imbra thrown in for good measure. I would think that the usual tunnel/cubby/blind/pocket etc sets would work for them as they did for my old Fenns. I have a few BG's in my collection here and can say that they vary greatly. The BMI Magnums are the only legal ones over here and are easily man enough to do the job as Chalkwarren pointed out earlier. I know Ditch prefers the Belisle from Canad
  6. That's the first Goldie x Bullie mule I have ever seen Dox, beautiful bird. thanks for showing it. OTC
  7. It is just the sort of place I catch mink best in cages, like I described to you earlier. If you fancy a bait change or if the weather warms up a bit try kippers - they last a lot longer than the tinned fish and are just as effective as bait. They are really good in the high summer as they don't tend to get flyblown as much as other fresh baits, but in the cold winter weather I doubt it would make that much difference. Is there a really fast, white water section of the stream you're trapping, or a weir? If so try the run along the very edge of the stream or just off it, that will giv
  8. I thought that second site looked like a good set John, well done! OTC
  9. I have got these two pigeon racing clocks, both are in serviceable condition, but they need a new home as I have nowhere to display them. They are in their original hardwood boxes. They are both marked as TOULET IMPERATOR, fitted with McMillan's Improvised Patent, Made in Belgium and their individual number on the glass front. Before I eBay them, I thought I'd offer them to you guys - the highest reasonable offer takes them plus postage on top of course. I could possibly arrange a pick-up or delivery if you live anywhere close to me - North Worcestershire, South Shropshire,
  10. That looks like a good idea in principle, I will watch the posts for the developments on it with interest. Over to you master-carpenters, I will just look on with envy as my woodworking skills are a bit limited to make a decent job of one myself. OTC
  11. Next door to Ditch Shitter, to talk traps every night over a Guinness and help him out with his mink and house painting!! Seriously, I like the New Forest area or possibly the wild expanses of backwoods of Canada. I always fancied one of those idyllic thatched cottages down in Hampshire/Dorset area too but could never afford one. OTC
  12. You should have set it up without bait, I once caught 5 mink in 5 days in one cage trap and only baited it on the first day - the scent of the other mink and the residue from the initial bait will be plenty to get them in, if there's more of them. OTC
  13. Superb stuff John, that just shows that scent and a good site work a treat! That new site (the first of the two pics) looks like a good one too, you're starting to get your eye in now! Keep it up! OTC
  14. John, I wish you luck, and mirror your enthusiasm!! I have had most luck with cages on a sort of beach near the waterline, or under bridges or culverts where the mink are forced to land at rapids or squeeze through to follow the waterline. They won't brave the white water and will land just before to scent out the bank where possible. The second trap looks like a better site, the first would have the mink coming up a steep bank to reach the trap entrance from what I can see of your photos there. Once you find a good site it will work for you time and time again, year after yea
  15. They are guaranteed pure stock Redlegged Partridges, just a leucistic strain. I used to pair them together for a novelty and they always bred true. The cocks were really strong broad birds. I just thought they'd be something a little bit different for you to look at! OTC
  16. What do you make of these then? I had several pairs of them years ago and they all bred true OTC
  17. Sleet/snow here too, should be a cold wet week by all accounts . . . OTC
  18. What? NO yours is not playing up or NO you won't tell me? OTC
  19. Every time I go to send an email on Hotmail this evening I get the message Windows Live Hotmail couldn't send your message because the server was busy. Please try again later. Is anyone else experiencing the same? And before you tell me hotmail is crap and yahoo is better etc I am content with hotmail thanks; I just want to know if the problem is mine personally or that it is happening to others. OTC
  20. 'Red and green must never be seen, except for on a fool . . .' OTC
  21. Ditch, In a nutshell, and being as I have seen first hand what your place looks like, I would say dark 'bottle' green would compliment the other green for your doorframes etc. OTC
  22. Mike, eBay's rules are pretty clear regarding sale of gin traps ~ all you need to do is list them as 'collectable antiques, not for use' etc and they will be left well alone. I have bought and sold many traps on there over the years and so long as you stick to the guidelines then things should be left as they should be. By the way - for your listing - the trap is a Robert's Patent Dogless gin trap made by Sidebotham's for Gilbertson & Page Ltd (GILPA) circa 1935. If you, or anyone else, has any questions about old traps or have anything for sale/swap or just getting rid of,
  23. Happy Birthday MC - take it easy at your age too!! OTC
  24. I use LED religiously now - a bright light with little battery drain. There must be a strap-carry version out there Ditch. OTC
  25. If there is anyone in the readership that works in brass that could help me by making up a few small components to fit onto my traps then please PM me OTC
