  1. Collie Grey I count Ditch as one of my closest friends and whilst I understand the allure of his off-the-wall posts, I very much doubt that he will return to THL, for the same reasons that so many others have gone their seperate ways. If you want to keep up with the eccentricities of his character then follow his 'Blog from The Bog' that Mal has linked earlier in this post All the best OTC
  2. Not really my genre ... but if I had to choose ... then it would be Hammer To Fall OTC
  3. Cheers for the pics - I know full well what they look like, I just haven't seen one I think there's only a handful of British birds I have not seen over the years but the hawfinch is one of them OTC
  4. Dave I have found the Fenn scissor mole traps to be first rate, if for some reason I cannot use the Talpex I think john b sells them - try here http://www.fourteenacre.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/shopindex_files/FourteenacreTrapShop.htm OTC
  5. In all my years of looking I have never knowingly ever seen a hawfinch ... OTC
  6. Buy a Fenn Mk 4 trap from John b on here or go to this place and get the right trap for the job http://www.fourteenacre.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/shopindex_files/FourteenacreTrapShop.htm OTC

  8. £13 on an advance ticket - not bad at all I thought The show was smaller than last year but certainly not small overall The one thing I cannot understand is why the terriers/running dogs are so far away from the main show, and yet the gundogs are right in the middle of it all ... ?? I went looking for a new jacket and came home empty handed, apart from a handful of old traps OTC
  9. I can recommend that you get Moley's DVD - it will show you all about how and what to do with your mole traps, from modifying new traps to make them more effective to setting them I think Fourteenacre sell it OTC
  10. They are called alarm guns or alarm mines - check out this place http://www.henrykrank.com/alarm_mine.html Perfectly legal and useful tools with blanks - and pretty adaptable to most circumstances The older drop types were made from cast or forged steel and can be pretty hard to find these days OTC
  11. Yes it is a crayfish trap Rolfe - cannot be any more specific but that is what it is!! OTC
  12. As with any of these chemical products it is the import restrictions that prevents us getting it in safely I think I would like to try some if anyone has any OTC
  13. Sounds like the work of an otter to me too, or a rogue dog (but then there's usually plenty of saliva round the feathers cast aside) OTC
  14. I do sometimes run down my fox snare cables with a dark wax crayon to blend them in and help them to zip shut in an instant Never tried Formula One, Ian, where do you get it from? OTC
  15. I used to, but now I find them just as effective made and set straight from the cable reel in my shed, it makes no difference at all OTC
  16. Back in the day no 'keeper worth his wages would tolerate a single fox on his beat, and that was a nationwide initiative, thanks to the use of snares, gin traps and poisons, and yet still rural foxes managed to sustain themselves ... OTC
  17. Mike A few tips that might help you - Bait seems to make little difference - rabbits or chicken/game seem popular, but soon get flyblown and maggoty. Some trappers claim that this doesn't make much difference to the fox attraction issue but who knows? I use kippers as bait throughout thesummer months in all my baited traps and they seem to resist going maggoty more, and are irresistable to foxes and mink etc Site - this is important. I found that alongside tracks or headlands works best, and even better if you can get the trap alongside a wire fence or similar - they cannot walk ro
  18. Got to do all 3 in one day now - in Winter OTC
  19. Old traps - they fascinate me for some reason OTC
  20. Well, no positive identification - it might well have been this year's bird, and it is moult time too ... I thought it was a whimbrel though, it just looked different from any curlew I have seen somehow OTC
  21. I reckon a Juby would be a better test than the Kania ChalkWarren - just lowering your back wheels onto the plate would sort the men from the boys ... OTC
  22. That's what I thought - any other opinions welcome OTC
