  2. Lamper/gatherer i'm not surprised your getting a bit of grief, you say that you've had dogs for 30 years but this is your first pup,why is that? You can't beat rearing and training your own pup the satisfaction is great,of course when it all goes wrong you've nobody to blame but yourself. Mate i'll give you some advice,if you want to race dogs buy a greyhound. If you want to catch rabbits buy a lurcher pup. I've yet to see a greyhound that can work better than a lurcher or a lurcher that can run faster than a greyhound. So mate straighten your head out,get rid of that stupid id
  3. quote-scottish lurcher. and on rough ground found them to be crap sure heeps of you greyhound owners might disagree but keep greyhounds for the track and keep lurchers for hunting i would bet most lurcher owners would bet money on there lurchers catching more hares than a greyhound ive have seen my two run faster than any racing greyhound not bigging them up Agree and disagree mate,I agree that greyhounds should be kept for the track, now that coursing is banned[unless they have been reared and trained for lurcherwork from puppyhood].As far as your lurchers being faster than any racing g

  6. I'd choose the lightning, because of it's lightness. If weight didn't come into it,i would opt for the 97.
  7. This very topic was run through the CMW not so long ago if I remember correctly. All I will ask you is,what do you require/expect of your lurcher/running dog? I expect mine to hunt, jump, catch and carry,as well as being 100% safe with livestock. Must admit i've never understood why anyone would get a retired greyhound for working.

  9. I think the fight was won between the ears,Tim Sylvia could not work Cotoure out at all,he was too predictable. Whereas Cotoure was the opposite, yet how many times did he catch him with overhand punches? The smaller man had the bigger heart and quicker mind

The Train Journey Four people in the carriage of a train - a Welshman, a pretty young blonde girl, an ugly old woman and an English Rugby Player. It all goes dark when the train goes through a tunnel. In the dark there's the sound of an almighty slap, and when the train emerges from the tunnel the Englishman is rubbing his face, and there's a huge red mark on his cheek. The old lady thinks, "I bet that Englishman fondled the blonde in the dark and she slapped him". The pretty young blonde thinks "I bet the Englishman tried to fondle me in the dark, got the old lady by mistake, and she h

  13. Good advice Dale,90% of the adult dogs on the market have a fault, your just buying someone's problem. The satisfaction of rearing and training your own cannot be surpassed. :thumbs-up:
  14. Wouldn't fancy pulling him off
  15. I was wrong, a dogs fitness is down to 2 things, excersize and feeding.
  16. Try doing the retrieve training in an enclosed area like a hallway,or if the pup is bigger an alleyway, block off one end, that's the end you stand at this stops the pup from running behind you. And get down on your knees like minion says and incourage the pup into you.

I would say the dam is more important than the sire,it certainly is in greyhound breeding by as much as %

  20. I make mounts with a small treble at the end and a single hook infront of it. Put the treble at the tail end and the single through the bottom jaw, there should be a slight bend in the minnow so that it wobbles when the current works against it.
  21. Nice pics mate, the bitch looks like she's enjoying herself, that's the way it should be,all the best with her.

    why is

  23. A dogs breeding and it's fitness are two totally different things. You can have the best bred dog in the world, but if it's over weight and never excersised it will not be fit. Then again a run of the mill dog that's excersized and worked regularily will be fit. So I say a dogs fitness is 100% down to excersise. Breeding has a part to play in the ability of the dog as a finished article, but has nothing to do with fitness.
