  2. Last summer when I was driving down the motorway heading to our holiday destination I stopped at the motorway services to fill up with petrol and managed to spill some down the sleeve of my jumper. We carried on with our journey and 15 miles further down the motorway the wife lit up a fag, well the next thing I knew the arm of my jumper was up in flames. So there we were heading along the road at 65mph with both of us trying to beat the flames out on my jumper.Just when we'd manager to put them out a police car pulled us on to the hard shoulder Well after explaining to him what had ha
  3. Camplefoot is a pool on the mid-nithsdale association water on the Nith,it's where the Cample burn runs into the Nith between Thornhill and Closeburn. The trout fishing is pretty poor lindsay,it used to be a great river for sea trout but like the rest of the solway rivers the runs of sea trout are at an all time low.

    help

Had the same symptoms with an 18 month old bitch just over a year ago,the only difference being she lost a lot of weight as well. The vet didn't have a clue so he jabbed her up and gave me a course of anti-biotics for her.Well she picked up and put on a bit of weight, but 6 weeks down the line she was back where she started. Back to the vets, more jabs and anti-biotics,this time she didn't pick up four days later a decision was made to put her down The vet was of the opinion that she had got a blood infection that had went straight to her heart and lungs.Thinking back she did have a com
  5. Here's a pic of my boys first Grayling caught on maggot last July, again at camplefoot on the Nith.
  6. Here's a pic of my boy Dylan with his first salmon a 4lb 10oz grilse caught last August on a garden fly at camplefoot,on the Mid-Nithsdale association water.
  7. Anyone been lucky enough to kill 2 rabbits with the same shot? I saw my brother in law do it with his Air Arms TX200 .177,the nearest rabbit was 22yards away, the other rabbit was about 4 yards behind it at 2 o'clock. The pellet hit the 1st rabbit in the head, then must have came out at an angle hitting the second rabbit in the neck. I would have thought this would have been extremely rare but when I mentioned it today a mate of a mate said he had also done it So it got me thinking, how common a happening is it?
  8. Here's a pic of my boys first pike,it's only a wee jack but it meant a lot to him.
  9. 30 yards is excellent baz, can't imagine you would need any further than that. Presentation is as important or even more important than distance though, no point in casting it 30 yards if it crashes down on the surface with a mighty splash
  10. You're a braver man than me jigsaw,I wouldn't dream of taking a lurcher out on live quarry untill it's retrieving was spot on.There are a lot of destractions for the pup when they start out on the rabbits, they get over excited and all those months of training get forgotten about. They are a lot easier to train before any bad habits have set in.Sounds like he/she is going to have a soft mouth How old is the pup jigsaw? All the best with her retrieve training.
  11. Instead of cutting them you could file them down with a metal file,or some rough sandpaper.Another way of keeping nails short is to use a dremel tool, once the dog gets used to it you'll find it a good way of keeping their nails down.
  12. Have to agree with socks the nutritional value of tripe is low,I feed tripe during the off season when the dogs are resting. Instead of chicken how about rabbit Matthew? just as good and the best part is they cost nothing, all you've got to do is get out there and catch them. Everybody has got an opinion and they are entitled to them,I feed half dryfood and half raw it works for me

Just ask John McStay or the twats that broke into his house.
  15. If you think about it how can a company make a 15kg bag of dogfood and sell it for £6.58 The manufacturer and the seller both have to make a profit,it must cost about£2 a bag to produce. If I had to feed dogs on this shite[dr johns] I would give up keeping them. The dogs would be better off getting fed on table scraps, far more nutrition in them. Better still feed them on the rabbits they/you catch.I feed half and half dry food/meat.A bag of greyhound meal[gain or red mills] only costs £10-£11.Surely they deserve to be fed properly after a nights work.
  16. Got the same problem J D,had lurcher pups for over 25 years and my present one is the noisest ever.Never before have I heard a lurcher pup howl, she just throws the head back and away she goes howl howl howl. The first night she was on her own she started at 2am,normally a raised voice and a cup or two of water thrown from the bedroom window would do the trick, not with this bitch. The more water I threw the noisier she became. That was 2 weeks ago,now she spends the day in my kennels but goes round to Jimmys at night to lie with her brother,i'm not brave enough to keep her here over nigh

    OUT TONIGHT

Both guns are Air Arms S410K.I'm not sure how much they would be new but would imagine in the region of £500 for the gun, scope, mounts and bag.The one on the bottom would be an extra £35 as it's a left hand stock. The gun on top I was lucky to get second hand for £120,and that included the pump. Brand new they are out of my league.
  18. It depends what your fishing for baz and where your fishing. Are you reservoir fishing for Rainbow trout/brown trout? Or river fishing for Salmon, sea trout or brown trout?
  19. Hopefully catch a few sea trout night fishing. I have a 10 week old lurcher pup that will get a lot of attention throughout the summer.I'll also get out with the air rifle which helps with the feeding bill. The greyhounds keep me busy aswell, they race all year round. Better not forget about my 3 boys,12,9 and 6 months,i'm sure they will have a say in what I do.

    rabbits

I use RWS superdomes with my Falcon Hawk, the rabbits don't like the combination. Get a target set up Tim and put a few through the barrel i'm sure they'll be okay.
  21. Should be able to get it at a greyhound track, there are a few in the north east. I feed Gain greyhound with meat,it's similair to red mills.

    goodbye

Hope everything goes okay for you mate.
  23. It might be worth trying different dummies untill you find one that your pup prefers more than the others and it will not drop it and leave it. When the pup does arrive back at you with the dummy talk to it and stroke it for 30 seconds or so before gently taking the dummy off it.
  24. Sorry to hear about your bad luck Ian.
