  1. is this a real person asking this or some sort of computer generated annoyance thing???? dogs on steroids...... oh sorry, a mates dog on steroids..... yer mate must be into fightin pits or summit crazy like that if he feels the need to pump up his dog to that extent cause hunting dogs get their drive from breeding and owner training, andphysical size from work. the day a dog has to be on steroids to take its quarry is the day i'll pack in huntin........ this site is called THE HUNTING LIFE..... for hunting people and dogs,
  2. HAIRYBUSH..... you are 58 right.....is the name very age appropriate!!!! just to clarify before yo say im a young yob im approx half your age and hunting with 20odd years, and im sure you have a sh** load of more experience than myself if your a hunting man most of your life but i think your posts on this topic are a bit on the harsh side, agree to disagree and leave it at that, was initially ment to be about dogs and foxes remember... just my opinion,
  3. why have you put this!! You have just posted the worst post on hunting life for quite a while, and you have the balls to post this on someone elses post.. At least he held his hand up, he knew that people like you would frown upon him.... Go sort your scratch out mate, and leave the younguns alone. In fact i bet your no more than 18 your self.... i think you'll find bluebrindle is female mate!!!! haha, agree with ya tho, this is all about advice and nobody is born with hunting knowledge, it aint hereditory unfortunatly!! if ya dont ask you will never know, fair play to those who are
  4. i wouldnt see that many hares in a couple of years never mind say course them!! ye are lucky, have been hearing alot about the fens but know nothing about it other than its obviously rotten with long ears!! fair play to ya anyway mate, ya puttin plenty in front of your dogs and have the respect for em to keep em when in their golden years! all the best mate,
  5. Spot on, that's all we use. cheers danw, as i said i didn't have anything to compare it to really as its the only gun ive taken deer with. I have taken reds, fallow and sika, stags and doe's at some very good distances and find that 9/10 of them will fall on the spot, very very odd one will go a couple of paces but very seldom happen. I use 120grain fusion bullets in it and find it deadly accurate, only thing is there is a nice bit of carcass damage if you get a heart/chest shot, but it isn't an issue really, alot more severe than my mates .243. mine is a tikka m695, like new, with
  6. hows it goin lads, i have a few guns, beretta ultralight delux, 11-96 remington light contour semi auto, 22 anchez hornet, 22 cz, and finally a tikka 25.06. im knocking alot of deer with it and find it a mighty yoke but how do they compare to other calliber deer rifles??? i have experience with the 243 but thats about it in larger calibers. any opions gladly appriciated.
  7. the fiirst one is out of a bitch from his book, the second is unrelated from a diff litter mate, ive seen both and are very nice dogs, im mad to take on the one you mentioned but i litterally wont have time for it, j darcy is friendly with this chap(my cousin) and im sure this line isn't so easy to get. i have to admit tho i know feck all about this line.
  8. i second that! a well bred line bred one off proven stock is a valuable asset to any mans yard.atb
  9. hows it goin mate, i like the wheaton cross, thet are tough as nails and a very handy fox dog, probably the most common cross over here at them. my brother has a first cross bitch and she's very handy and takes alot of long ears by day. as good as most bull crosses around a hole.

  14. good show lads, interesting breed aswell, wonder how they compare to the saluki?? didn't like to see the second dog come in on the course at 3:40, the thirs run i think in the snow, wasn't a very sportmanlike ting to do was it.......
  15. very very true. its a farse using emergency help lines to report a man and his dog, unless the dog is out of control and harming or attacking a person this advice should be withdrawn as it does have a knock on effect to geniune emergency's.
  16. quote name='roystoncrankted' timestamp='1199992861' post='392088 [ive never seen anything other than a bullcross that could actually kill a fox. collie cross etc bedlington etc waste of time quote you obviously haven't seen too many dogs work mate, that statement is pie in the sky, pure and utter skutter, hundreads and hundreads of lurchers with no bull in them can and do happily kill fox.
  17. should be a very handy cross for d bunnies mate, this cross should do some other quarry too if ya wanted to id imagine, should be nice, best of luck wit em, atb,
  18. Exactly !!!!! as said befor they mainly have one purpose and i have mine for this job. i dont use other lurchers for holes, just this one as he is very good at it, doesn't mean a dog of another breed wont match him at it but i dont have another as good as him at this work....... happy now???
  19. i find this very hard to believe!! some foxes come flying in with dogs makin noise and you whisperin to your mate to get ready to slip!! maybe true but i haven't asked any lately, if they come within 40 yards they dont be in the humour for doin too much talkin after it!!!!
  20. mundi sound is my one, comes in a cammo green pouch and has 8 calls, you can change the card in them and get other calls to put in them, ie deer or watever, ive ever only used the one that came in it and find it great for bringing in foxes from a long way away. and shy ones.
  21. hows it goin mate, i nearly always use the back of my hand to call but have an electronic caller for the cagey ones, it has a vixen barking on it, a hare which is very good at times, cubs calling, and a few others, all have worked in different situations, its a green rectangular box with see through part on the front where you put in the battery, will put up the make of it later, what the lads have said is very good and effictive is a small piece or aero board/polystyrene on a small piece of glass, spit on the glass and rub the polystyrene along it, great call.
  22. could be a barrel of laughs when they come of age to hunt mate, flat out chasin a bunny and then it stops dead and setts a pheasent in the ditch!!! only jokin, ive heard of a whippet red setter cross working out pretty well, atb
  23. i have been out with macky a few times and he is one of the nicest genuine dogmen i have met. the people he has brought with him have been the same. all they want to do is get out and hunt. iv never seen any coke or gates been smashed off or driving through fields he doesnt need to do that he can call them where he wants. he has been out with a lot of dogs and he will run doubled up or single handed. if you say too him though you have a single handed fox dog though he will put fox after fox 30 yards from you closewr if you want and trust me if your dog ain catching their are no excuses. but yo
  24. hows it goin scruff, what do ya lamp if ya dont mind me asking, i presume its shooting as ya looking for a lamping dog?? Hello mate. I personally lamp fox's with the rifle on a number of farms and the local estate. I also get the odd call from folk with small holdings and allotments etc. My lamping buddy has two Hancock collie greyhounds I think, and he gets first dibs on owt week see, I take what won't come basically. I'm after a dog a lot smaller than the two my mate has. I spend a lot of time walking round the farms I have, and with me taking all the fox's, I need to sta
