  4. What a horrible couple of days. Firstly the storms hit here late morning yesterday and stayed till dark. Had to lock all the hens away, i am surrounded on 2 sides by trees/woodland. Massive branches ripped from the trees, blowing down the roads at about 20mph. My best young hen, in fact the only one i have worth breeding from died. She had been having trouble laying, and have been keeping an eye on her, warm soaks, oil in the vent etc, brought her into the house yesterday morning as the storms started, a few hours later she just layed down and died. I am absolutely gutted, she was n

  6. Three of the four have left the nest today. Three are mainly yellow with green caps, they are all going to be Corona's. The fourth is a plain green..... bless him. The Coronets/Red factors chicks... Border hen/cocks chicks...
  7. Some of my pest control for rabbit & mole, the local castle. Not huge amounts of rabbit here anymore, but i feel the luckiest person in the world to have somewhere private like this to mooch about with the dogs. Definitely one of my favourite places. Her legs are just a bit to short
  8. Feed % raw. I feed tinned about once per week, usually when i forget to defrost but other times too. Also Dry food now and then cooked and scraps etc. I do with all my dogs from being small pups. My reasoning is....they never get used to one type of food alone, which leads to upset stomachs, diarrhoea etc if for some reason i have to change or they scavenge food.
  9. One flew out of my hand yesterday Fireman, i put it back in the nest and it flew again, thankfully next time it stayed put I've removed the chooks from the aviary for now, just to be on the safe side

    FURDY...

Terrible news, far too young. God bless.
  11. I am giving mine, canary seed, egg food, mixed wild bird seed including sunflower hearts, dandelion + flower heads and seed heads. Grass, chickweed in fact any weeds dug up from the garden go straight in with the birds, and the branches with leaves from the sycamore trees, covered in aphids and some sticky stuff, they go potty for it. The hen & cock have raised all 4 eggs, and the chicks are all equal in size, some real bonny ones, all yellow with green caps on the tops of their heads, they are about to fledge any minute now And still have another 2 hens with 4 teeny chicks each.
  12. Quite common for hens to go off lay for up to two weeks when they are moved. I wouldn't worry about it at the mo, just get some good grub and fresh water into them ready for them starting again
  13. It is a site for everyone, hard and soft feather alike. Has something for everyone, hunting, gardening and utter nonsense. It's a right good laugh on there, more light hearted banter than anything to do with poultry  All forums, whether they be poultry, hunting or how to do the ironing will have varying views, that's what forums are for. It is up to the members to educate others (and learn themselves), so people like yourself Ducky, need to join to make sure that the "MANY UNTRUTHS PUSHED BY THE " SHOWMEN " are discussed, otherwise those untruths will never be put right I
