So, have you actually trained your dogs not to jump in the dark? Surely if the dog is in hot pursuit and whatever it's chasing nips through a fence and pops over a wall the dog will be up and over too - especially if it jumps the same obstacles through the day? How do you stop them from jumping at night???
-
They've got to jump an absoloute must. Around here you'd never be done lifting and lowering if your dog couldn't jump. Easiest thing in the world to teach. I'm never in too much of a hurry to teach a pup to jump though - especially with big heavy types. Young pasterns, fetlocks, wrists or whatever can easily be damaged by starting too young. I've no need for a 6 month old pup to be jumping five bar gates and I wince when folk constantly fire young growing dogs up and over obstacles like a kinda party trick!!!!!!

Met DogsnNatives recently and saw this dog, Don`t think I have ever seen a dog like it in my entire life. If you want to see a dog that has it`s working history writtten all over it, this is it, An outstanding looking beast. You will genuinely look twice in utter amazment. ATB Would agree with you there Mark - a real awsome dog.

Had 4 from Hancock now - a Richard Jones half x and a Taffy 3/4 (avatar pic) in the mid 80s. Both excellent dogs the 3/4 did the lot and was a real athlete - brave too - best dog I've ever had - maybe even seen!!! The Richard pup was a dog that you could lamp every night of the week. A hardy soul who never complained - ever!!! Toooooo slow for hares though - by a long way. Was a clever lad and made up for things that way. Had a Kubla pup - nice dog who was really intelligent and eager to please - but a total nightmare to live with. Had serious separation anxiety which blighted everyone's life

TIT

Keep an eye on the big dogs if they'e ratting with terriers. A bit over excitment has been tragically costly in the past. The big dog in my avatar wasn't keen on terriers at the best of times but he was less keen on them if the blood was up and rats and teeth were flying!!!!

Pull up a chair - this'll be great!!!! Plummer thread on here, Hancock thread on the lurcher section and Nuttall's getting a slagging on the terrier section...off to ma bed!!!!!!!

is it just me or has the lurcher world gone mad????
BORDERSCOT replied to poxon's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Instead of "has the lurcher world gone mad"? The question should have read "is the lurcher world still mad"? It's been mad since I had my first lurcher (fecking long time ago now) but granted, the internet has just made it madder!!!!! ATB -
Now I seen a woman in Morrison's a few months ago hand a ticket over and ask for to be checked - she was told her ticket wasn't a winner and she thanked the assistant and left. I did wonder how easy it would be for someone working in a shop to claim a ticket wasn't a winner and to keep it for themselves. Shame for the old couple. I hope they get what's due them. Likewise, I hope the thief gets what's due him too.....

Totally pisses me off when the brass necked b*****ds tell us that we're in this together or they 'feel our pain' do they f**k all feel our pain - they have little or no idea what it's like to live in the real world that the majority of us inhabit!!!! For Conservative, Labour, Liberal Democrat and the now non existant Left and Right, read POLITICAL CLASS- the only ones that are 'in it together' are this lot. And it's gonna get worse...

Another great modern remake of an old western is 3.10 to Yuma - brilliant movie!!!! Original was good too. Not as violent.

Tree like that in our local park we used to 'box' it when we were laddies - u could smack f**k out of it all day long. Soft and spongy bark. Big tree too. Must be 60 plus ft tall. I'll take a pic tomorrow..

My lad, who is 14, hunts rats on the riverbank close to where we live 3 or 4 nights a week. He takes one of the older terriers and a youngster with him and he has decent success - averaging 20/30 per week...the other night he was digging away with two terriers and the police called him up from the river saying they'd had a complaint from the SSPCA and that what he was doing was illegal as hunting with dogs is banned. My boy explained that he was legally allowed to hunt rats - he has permission from several shop/cafe/private property owners - a fact that the police dismissed pretty smart. H

I really hope you get her back mate - it's just bad news this eh? I haven't a clue how you're feeling. If someone helped themselves to any of mine I'd be sick to the pit of my stomach. Good luck and al the best.
