Silken Windhound (Borzoi Whippet Line Bred)
desertbred replied to flynndog's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
These Silkens are what they are , the only way to test a supposed working line is to get it out on the land behind some game and see how it performs. Personally I feel that the existing lines of running dogs are more than adequate for doing what is needed, not to say lines cannot be improved but not by these this is just my opinion. If some one is intent on introducing new blood lines or combinations this is a lifelong job and one that you don't undertake lightly breed a few generations low key test them and test them some more then show them to the world if they make the grade to many experi -
where was the bitch imported from ?

if the dogs got the right minerals it can be started whenever as long as physically capable running dogs will loose a bit of pace but changes of quarry and running places can usually compensate for that. Dogs are individuals their lines play an important part in courage gameness etc, I have had dogs that would be first in the line for the collar on at 14 years old and sulked like b*****ds if left behind in home , seen others that retired themselves at 5 years old LOL strange old game dogs

Merril how am I putting anyone down I said "you lads must like lamping and rabbit bashing" that is not a put down. As for numbers that is in your own imagination who mentioned numbers of anything. I made a comment that more breeds introduced it mongralises the dog do you want to argue about that< as for the sport that lads do that is for them and my opinion is my opinion so what are you bleating about. I certainly think you need to shake your head and read again what I posted I personally I don't lamp but have no problem with lads that do I run anything else that suits me not just some ga

Zoribo aren't these American bred from borzoi /whippet lines registered about 30 years ago? Your location says Boston so you are in the right place to test these for a few seasons to see what they can do on the big land.Think Americans mostly used for showing and chasing plastic bags dont they? could be wrong though -

the more breeds you put in a dog you a getting mongrels, some of the crosses you will get 21 tts same litter 28 tts all range of colours, rough coat, smooth coat different traits and work qualities its like a bran tub lucky dip stick your hand in and see what you pull out.

May be Muslims Rag u up but being trained here by Christians for certain

I would be looking very closely at some of the ones who have been to see the litter or who have enquired and not bothered to turn up. Thieving shower of c**ts who ever they are, as some one has said the grapevine works overtime if a dog stashes or has a bad day its all over the country in 2 hours, dogs get robbed and no f****r knows anything. its people in the dog game having them away even the bag heads now appear to be stealing to order. All the best in getting them back JL

very few lads I see run now give fair law. I have even seen comps where kick ups are part and parcel. This time of year and especially with the temps plenty of half growns about and still carrying weight from the summer. I don't see where the advantage is to kill big numbers. I get the training young green dogs but once they have nailed half a dozen then the course has to be stepped up either difficult land , longer slips or when the frost hits. A lot of good dogs have only just started getting ready now for December time.

good for you hope they are as good as you say

back in the days you are talking about yes big numbers were taken but that did not make it the right way nor does it today I was brought up and fed on what the dogs caught and even here before the ban you could catch a few even rabbits pheasant etc and drop them off to some old folk or any body who could make use of them. Lads still do with rabbits but coursed hare is a no no on most menus . No one is giving him a hard time just pointing out reality in this day and age ,nothing we say will change his way only he can do that if he is of a mind to, if not then let him carry on. Longer slips on d

I leave normally at 2 am travel more than 500 mile round trip as many lads on here will verify. Most lads with running dogs love coursing and plenty have been at it long enough to grow out of the my dog killed this many and the runs and performance of the dog is much more important. The kill is a by product unless it is a comp when bodies are the way it is now decided. How do you quantify worth your while? the enjoyment of the dogs being out and the course should make it worth while. Most of the kills now in my experience of what happens here is that the carcuss is tossed into the ditch or th

it sounds like a numbers game , that isn't what coursing is about or it shouldn't be. If you get out on a daily basis or every couple of days and knock over 4s and 5s multiply that by the numbers of lads doing similar things the game is going to be reduced considerably, compound that with the hare shoots shooting hundreds at a time . I am not sure how sustainable the coursing is now. Loss of land , bird shoots springing up , lamping, night vision things are heading on a slippery slope as far as quarry conservation is concerned. I course regularly but will pull the plug on three and most ti
