  1. You turn your back for a few minutes and before you know where you are..... I've finally packed Josh off to bed with a thousand questions per second about you all coming at me. Gentlemen you are all a small lad's hero right now. Thank you most sincerely to each and every one of you who have responded so generously. He had already signed up and posted here when he gleefully told me he's joined the section...! I'll be honest and thought "Oh my God!! They'll think he's Collie!" He really is a bright, polite, lovely kid and very respectful of anyone with the know-how he seek
  2. Hawke Eclipse 4-16X50. Great on an Air Arms TX400 spring charged pnuematic .122 air rifle.
  3. Hi jengledow and welcome to the section mate. You'll be much better served looking in the second hand sections for a top name spring rifle that WILL perform and give you a lifetime of faithful service and enjoyable satisfaction in owning and shooting it, than expecting a cheap-as-chips gun to perform the job equally well. You need more than "Reasonably accurate" to be able to guarantee a hit on a small animal's brain spot, shot for shot. You need precision accuracy. Sorry to sound like a gun snob but, given the power of the Law, I would ban a lot of Noricas, certain SMKs and Gamos fr
  4. Dammit why did I state Optic? Aye! ADJUSTABLE OBJECTIVE Sorry gentlemen; my honest mistake :icon_redface: Aww you know what I mean!
  5. Text book shot Steve. Well done mate!
  6. Jesus Steve you look like you could launch an assault on a hi-jacked Embassy wearing this stuff mate! For bunny bashing this is perfectly good cammo, no problems I can see! Simon
  7. Hi Steve and welcome to the section mate. The first advantages with front-lens focusing AO ( =Adjustable Optic)scopes is that they give you the widest degree of control over your rifle's sighting accuracy; and they correct a fair amount of your parallax error -or the angle at which your eye views the reticle (the crosshairs) over the intended point of impact on your target. Get it wrong and you'll see nothing but a dark blurr from the inside edges, get it right and you'll see your target perfectly well. You can sharply focus your sight picture and accurately estimate the ranges beyond what yo
  8. Thanks very much indeed Wurz mate, that's very kind of you to say. I'm so delighted with how it's performing I cannot see me buying another rifle, unless it's another HW77 in .177 for HFT competition! Cheers mate. Simon
  9. Its ok Simon we shall go with our springers mate You should try it lads its great, was only my second time so just set myself a target to improve on my last score and betterd it by 4 It shows me I have improved a bit over the last 4 months or so, I also find its a comfidence boost when in the field, you find yourself talking to your gun saying "come on we have made this shot in practace" you kno where im coming from simon lol .atb. .ste. You bet Ste mate! It might get a bit less polite with myself in the process though!
  10. Thanks for this info Si. Well this is encouraging! My only .177 rifle is my TX200HC but it's on FAC and thus will not be allowed I believe. I quite fancy getting a another TX200 .177 or Weihrauch HW77 in .177 expressly for competition shooting, but, I'll have a go at a course with .22 HW77 and my 30-30 ret. See what my old grey matter tells me to hold over/under at! I can see how you can be thrown off the correct range estimation with the forced perspectives the lane will throw at you. I must go deeper into this. Thank you again Si mate:thumbs: Simon
  11. haha I'll stick with my springers Steve mate. But why don't you have a go at making a Ghillie suit of your own? Get a DPM jacket and a cammo bush hat, some scrim net face veils, rag up some old cuts of cammo material, some hemp sacking (like sandbag sacking) cut into strips and lots of lengths of green, brown and tan garden twine. Just keep adding to it at your own pace. ATB Simon
  12. Make no mistake Andy you bought a cracking rifle. They are beautiful rifles to shoot with. I have a MKIII TX200HC .177 on my FAC that is an awesomely accurate and powerful. It'll put pellets through a 5p sized hole all day at 40 metres and stop a tough animal like a mink dead in it's tracks at the same range. My TX200 rifle is .22 sub 12 ft/lbs and is very smooth, accurate as you like and delightful to shoot. Steve is absolutely right when he mentions you should practice with it till you get the ballance and feel of it's handling characteristics like second nature. To bwe perfectly honest, I
  13. You can spend a small fortune on the latest must-have cammo patterns Steve. But, in truth, any green/brown/dark disruptive pattern cammo like British Forces DPM works just as well. Rabbits have a dull-focus monochrome, black and white vision and rely more on their superlative senses of smell and hearing. A realtree head net is an assett I wouldn't be without though. Woodpidgeon can spot the sunshine and light colour on your face a mile off also. ATB Simon
  14. Wow now that's what I call a shooting weekend. And it's only January -ish! Looks a brilliant time for everyone Davy. I've never shot an HFT course let alone entered an HFT Competition before; always been a hunter. Is there a class for .22 recoiling springer or is it take on all comers as equipped? Everyone involved in this sport seems to be using .177 PCP. Simon
  15. In North Yorkshire, I recommend Wighill Park Guns near Tadcaster. Owner Nigel Lambert is a straight-up honest lad to deal with and his shop is superbly well stocked with everything you could want. www.wighillparkguns.co.uk Simon
  16. Good point raised about dieselling Matt, but, I've always used just a very light coat, just a thin film of WD40 on the pellet, with nothing of it up the skirt and I've never had dieselling combustion problems. ATB Simon
  17. Hi John. There are two distinct camps on this subject. Those who swear by wash and lube and those who cannot see the point if all is behaving themselves. You should at least wash your ammo as lead dust and swarf is becoming more commonplace with manufacturers pellets these days. I don't know why, but, there it is. Take a glass bowl, 3 quarter fill with warm water, few drops of Fairy Liquid, tip in the whole tinful, give em a good swirl around for a few minutes. Then, pour off ammo into a sieve, rinse thoroughly and repeat if necessary. You may find a silvery, dusty residue in the bottom of yo
  18. Aye Davy's flying the flag for spring rifle shooting with his TX200HC...probably explains why he won! This is a great write-up with photos Si. How about putting names to the faces so w we know who's who when we get together in April? Great stuff this lads, well done to you all for making a great success of it! Simon
  19. Hi Karpman Not a good read mate, to hear of your hopes getting a bashing like this. However, you've got fixed up with a better rifle and the Simmons Diamond reticle scope is an oldie but a goodie so, what about giving Logun's own brand ammo a try? Hope it works out for you after all the bollocks with the S200 Karpie! Simon
  20. Looks a good location and course Aaron. Best of luck mate and let us know how you got on. Tell me if they hold recoiling spring rifle class tournaments there too please? ATB Simon
  21. I've got no need of upgrades with the rifles I have but, I've heard some very good reports with SMK's top-of-their-range springers. Can't knock a cheap rifle if it performs like a top dollar job! Simon
  22. Hi Brad. Okay mate, I don't think a change-over of rifle will provide the answer as it's quite a major fault you've described. The last straw you could clutch at, is give the two Phillips screws on the turret a check. If they are loose enough it might be they are not engaged with their internal adjuster sprocket. That's the last throw of the dice to try really I think. Getting in touch with Hawke directly is the best I can suggest here Brad. As for Litts going bust, the new business is not legally obliged to you but, as a customer of the business you could prevail on goodwill and see if they
  23. Hello Staines!. Spring rifle or Gas Ram? Break Barrel, Sidelever or Underlever? Pre Charged Pneumatic? Walnut, beech or synthetic stock? Ambidextrous Left hand or right hand stock? Calibre? .22, .177 .20. .25? With open sights and scope? Or scope only? Please and Thank-you???
  24. Sounds like the scope's elevation turret at least, is kaput for sure! 25 yards or metres is more than enough to see positive changes in POI with just a click or two. You should have no problems caused by changes in magnification with the pellet's point of impact regardless of zero. If the lenses are 1st Focal Plane the pellet will hit the same spot from 9 to 3 mag or 14 down to 4 or, whatever the scope mag range is. Best I can suggest is take it back where you bought it and see if you can get a replacement under Hawke's warranties or guarentees. Fom what I've seen of Hawke scopes so far, they
