  1. Hi Andy. A .25 HW Barrel via Hull Cartridge might get the job done Andy. Might be a bit of a wait though. It's not exactly common is it!
  2. Good read that Si and very interesting. From your post it's not perhaps best as a long range hunting round or a lamping round where a far greater trajectory curve and "bullet-drop" effect might cause accuracy problems But, it's a killer on vermin at around the 25-metre mark and it's not too upset flying in moderate winds. Any view on using it in a spring rifle? I imagine a Weihrauch HW80K Karbine in .25 would be a really devastating rat and ferral pidgeon killer at medium ranges. Perhaps putting it on FAC would be the way to bring it on a par with .22 performance? Grea
  3. There you go. Quite right John. If you are getting superlative accuracy from your Pro Sport, then that too is the most accurate rifle of all....In your hands. Hope it goes on getting you great shooting mate! Simon (Still hankering after that Diana Stutzen?)
  4. I believe there was an old by-law about hunting on the Sabbath that banned it in some parishes. The Church played a far more important moral as well as spiritual role in people's lives than it does now and was outspoken about bloodsports on the day of worship. in the 1953 movie "The Titfield Thunderbolt" The Reverend Weach reprimands his engine fireman for "poaching on Sunday" to which his man replies "Never shot a pheasant on a Sunday, may I drop down dead!" I've never heard of anyone being prosecuted for shooting on a Sunday and I've been shooting for over 40 years. Much of it on Sunda
  5. You could draw up a tidy shortlist of great rifle here. AIR ARMS PRO SPORT. AIR ARMS TX200. WEIHRAUCH HW95. WEIHRAUCH HW97. And my personal favourite above the lot. WEIHRAUCH HW77 Full Length. Beautiful in every way. Simon
  6. (Sigh ......................For focks sake!) Batty Mike. You have a bloody original way of writing up a hunting trip I'll give you that mate.  Well done Mike... How's Mary getting on with her new Tank? All the best. Simon
  7. The answers to this one are the guns that other lads have had really great sport with are all good answers for recommendations! It's still down to the shooter how accurate is the shot on the target whatever calibre or action type his rifle may be. And how you are with controlling rifle weights and recoil management is another couple of crucial factors. I'm with Si's answer above generally, it's what you want to do with your shooting that decides what you should be looking at. But, if a recoiling spring powered hunting and target sporting rifle is what you want, there is only one, t
  8. WEIHRAUCH RIFLE EQUALS H&N FIELD TARGET TROPHY (or RWS SUPERDOMES!)
  9. Yeah I know what you mean Andy. I wondered why the bloody Hell I bought it. But, it's turned out a very accurate kids climbing frame in the end! Simon
  10. ....Sid....! Love it!  You're alright with a true brum-built BSA Mike, but our man here might not be so fortunate to get one. Simon
  11. Hello Dean and welcome mate. I shoot with an HW77 .22 rifle as well and I reckon it's the finest spring piston rifle in the world. From your posts and the advice the lads have rendered you are going about things right and you'll soon be finding what works best for you and what doesn't. As for pellets. Try H&N FIELD TARGET TROPHY and RWS SUPERDOMES in your HW77. Either one or the other of these should prove superbly accurate in your rifle. (H&N FTT in mine!) If you are shooting in heavy rainfall, take your rifle out of the stock when you get home and dry and clean up the
  12. Howdy Mike. Mac wants THE BEST OPEN SIGHT RIFLE. HW77 is the best of the best. BSA Supersport is a Spanish-built Gamo now alas. Not a bad rifle really mate, but, their spring rifles aren't a patch on what they used to be when they were an independant British gunmaker.
  13. All of the Above! I've used a dead rabbit I've either shot or picked up as a road kill. A baby Owl deek works a treat too. Put it on a pole and up into the hedgrows or sit it on a log. A well concealed sniping position will usually get you two or a few more but they are as smart as hell and they soon work out all is not well with a certain area; food or no food. Simon
  14. Hi Mac. You won't go at all wrong with the Weihrauch HW77 in whatever calibre you decide upon. I've been shooting spring piston air rifles with open sights and scopes alike for over 40 years and this rifle is the finest Spring piston underlever air rifle of them all. Mine is .22cal. and the full length version. It's absolutely phenominally accurate, consistent, beautifully well made and easy to maintain. The sights are rugged and stay precisely where you set them. The rear sight-block screw-clamps to the scoperails which are generous in length and that gives you the adjustable optim
  15. The days of being safe inside an armoured vehicle really are a thing of the past now. I'd like to see footage like this of Fleschette rounds that were being developed during my days of service. These looked like a slightly longer-bodied conventional rifle bullet. But, once fired, the bullet outer casing broke away to launch several tiny dart-like needle-thin projectiles called Fleschettes; about 2.5 inches long. These can penetrate the weave of bullet proof flak-jackets and vests and bend like needles inside your body. Horrible things that can do unbelievable damage as they bend and deform, t
  16. If a Gas Ram it's to be; get the HW90. Best trigger, superbly accurate, easy to live with and service. Andy's is .20 calibre and H&N TROPHY seems a cracking pellet in this calibre. I've witnessed him shoot fantastic long range targets very precise and accurately with his. Don't bother with Theobens they are not the deal they look and will probably smash your scope up with their sharp-snap recoil characteristics. If you want something special, commission a stock in walnut from Custom Stock of Sheffield. They make the stocks for a lot of Theobens anyway!
  17. That's an amazing spot of shooting you two lads. Bloody hell I swear all my sport has emigrated north, to yours Ha! All the best to you both. Simon
  18. I'm with you there Daz but Chairgun is not so daunting as it first appears. Look on Si/zini's youtube channel; zinaroon's channel. He's put a very comprehensive group of instructional vids up on how to profile your rifle/scope reticle and pellet combo. with it. There's no substitute for getting out and shooting in the field but, it's very, very accurate if you input good and correct data. I swear by it. Simon
  19. If I was going back to open sight shooting for hunting, I would use an HW77 or HW80. I have both and they are beautiful spring rifles for open sight shooting. Can't praise them highly enough Simon
  20. Persistence is your best way forward old mate. With a few weapons in your arsenal of persuaders! When you approach a landowner of potential permission, present yourself with a bit of smartness and integrity. You don't need a suit and tie! But what you need to do is display a sense of decency and responsibility. Tell him/her that you are very respectful of boundaries, properties and the gamebirds like pheasant and partridge you are simply after pests like rat and rabbit. If you have shooting insurance, so much the better. Use a bit of psychology. Use of the word RAT is a powerful pers
  21. It all lookes incredibly beautiful like this. I wonder what is the source of those intercepting pellet/ball shots at 2:00. Or is it shrapnel effect of some sort? They appear to be knocking out and destroying speeding shells whatever they are. Interesting to note that there is no visible rotation effect from rifled barrels on some of these various rounds. Amazing footage Andy!
  22. Lovely shooting both you lads. Marvellous to watch how other chaps set their rifles up here.
  23. Si/zini did me a huge favour in the mid spring when he came up to shoot with me and Andy on my permission. I happened to have just aquired a HAWKE 6-18 X 44 SR12 reticle scope which was just in its box. He has exactly the same scope on his BEAUTIFUL BSA R-10 .22 rifle. His knowledge of rifle set up and balistics applied to air rifle shooting is incredible. With the scope mounted to my Weihrauch HW77 .22 we calibrated it using a Chairgun profile. On 15xmag and a lot of practice and hunting experience with it, this set up is absolutely pin-point lethal out to 55 metres. And it's all built on a
