    If its ONLY for ferreting/ rabbiting/ mouching i would recommend a collie x. If as you say you want bigger stuff too then a good dollop of saluki will help no end. Salukis have stamina, strengh and a lot more brains than the dicks who say they dont. They also have a prey drive that would put the avarage lion to shame.

    Its a lack of confidence mate, give him a chance. Salukis mature much slower than other dogs and 1 year old is f**k all. Let him have a few easy runs on rabbits during the close season (il get squawked at for saying that! Lol!) and then see how he goes next season. If he is shit hot when he is with another dog take him with another dog and slip him doubled up a few times then start slipping him and holding the other one. He wont know hes single handed. PICK THE RUNS CAREFULLY tho so he has a good chance of a kill. If he kills or not, give him plenty of praise. Confidence will go up that way. T

    Try putting snares on the pop holes and go back later to collect your catch. Also try dropping a longnet at night when there in the field, then disturb them so they get caught on there way home.

    I can tell if theres anything about and what it is by my dogs behaviour. If they walk quickly with their noses to the ground, checking each bush i know its rabbits. If there franticly casting about i know its deer. I also know at that point i have about 10 seconds to get them to me and the leads on otherwise there WILL be a dead dear for me to pretend i know nothing about! Lol! If i shout loud enough AND walk quickly away from the area they DO follow me. Then the leads go on and i get them out of the area. If the deer gets up and runs it gets taken down, simples.
