I like the look of mad eyes on that terrier mix to the right .

I enjoy watching the dogs on the game and also when the rabbit does the double double back over its own track. Your dogs did well and to be fair the rabbits still there for you and the dogs to chase again.

Whippets, thickets and working dog classes
toolebox replied to Luckee legs's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
As I am eastcoast ,I seen a number of dogs that got into battle with cars and the dogs have not scored yet. Townie drivers are the worst, they can't even see a white dog walking along the roadside, nor me, dress in my blue overalls, it makes my blood boil if they take no heed of my dog's working ahead signs. These days I decide early if I don't think they plan on slowing down or not , then I step out into the road early, and stand right in the middle and put my up to stop, even if they slow right down, I stay where I am and hold my ground once they come to a full stop I normally go over and a -
That's a better idea, cutting straight across and the round at the top of the drum. Wish I had thought of that, must make a note to myself, go slower and think about it lol.

I house all of my dogs in motel type kennels since we have wet winters and a dog on a chain can make a mud pit in a very short time period. I have some blue Barrels in size 166lts for sleeping boxes and cut the end door 5/6 inches from the top, then fit 2 end panels. One thing no one has mentioned so far is, when you plan to use one for a medium to bigger sized dog they really need a flat floor inside the drum since it's lying sideways, normally this floor is not very wide at all (12 inches), just enough for the dog to lye down flat. They make great sleeping boxes, draft and rain, plus the thi

Next the Mrs tells you to come home from the pub by 9am don't try sneaking in at 1am,3 sheets to the wind whispering "Big daddies home sweetie"

Some of Billy Barton dogs at least the 3 /4 were as tall as a bloody Shetland pony,I felt like getting a saddle and riding the bugger around but a lass i never saw the 3.4 in the field ,which reminds me ,he kindly gave me a nice bitch pup, but I think I rehomed she to pet home. That last bit may not be right, as I vaguely think she developed a major health issue.

Billy Barton kept and worked first cross GSD x Greyhounds, he also had some 1/4 GSD x 3/4 Greyhound.I don't think he has any now after his old dog zapper passed a couple of years back . Billy shifted out to NZ and now makes is living trapping pests, dog training and rabbit removal.I will message him as he's a member on here and will have a raft of information to offer. His username is /was gremhound

Yes, some I brought some I bred, that's after a spell of ten years of not owning one, that's when I swore I wouldn't own another damn beagle. Within in that spell I bred & kept some beagle x terriers. They went really well in the field, but I missed the sounds of hounds jumping a rabbit, so since I had the foxhound I thought it's best to make sure she was run with some other type of hound breed to add push. The 3 x2.5-year-olds are now going good, and I've started the other 4 pups (9-month-old)and they are keen as. It's always been part of my retirement plan to breed for sale ,some beagle

My Beagles would have ago at eating themselves if they had the chance.lol No it's a couple of lurchers ,one doesn't want the other to bring it back, so there's a bit of pushing and shoving, if they catch alone they turn up with it, no problems . If there is a number involved, a tougher old buck will be given up without damage being much tougher in the skin, however a fat soft doe won't last long if I don't intervene .I swear blue murder, as I'm about to reach out and get my, prize, but I'd refer one of them didn't decide my hand looked like a some kind of target and went for the catch, fangs s

My mutts are far worst, they dig at the hole, then send a few barks down and finish up by having a dust-up. If they catch a rabbit unseen, I might get 1/3 of it back after one of the dogs has sneaked off & had a feed, or I get a rabbit that has no head. I swear at times to shoot the lot or at least give one an old fashion fogging. They come into their own when they pour out of the dog crate, roaring their heads off and race about scaring any self-respecting rabbit for at least 5 miles, that's after each one has had a dump on the ladies' lawn. It was only last week one passed me chewing &am

When I was much younger, my best friend, would always tell me that there's no shame in riding a real ugly gal as long as your mates don't find out.

What type of dogs did you import Chartspolski ? Were they all the same breed ? I've often thought about importing certain breeds to New Zealand but for two major Faults, they would be a dead end breed unless somebody decided to also important some of the same breed within the lifetime of my dogs & the second is NZ hunters are very relaxant top try a different breed that has a fair cost attached, and to be fair a lot of hunters don't understand nor have any real know age of new breeds. I saw two new breeds enter NZ in the last 3 years, their owners bred them & found the pups were a very

As I am as well, I've taken on stuff from pet homes, and it's resulted in the odd excellent all-rounder, but the strike rate is over all poor results given all the time you can invest in a younger dog before it has field time. These days, I rather I bred my own from worker to worker knowing the strengths and any weak points that require to be managed, so I can get a dog that's half suitable.

A dog doesn't know it's just a pet, nor does it care, it only knows that it is a dog but not what breed, nor does it care. After many years of selective breeding, certain traits and behaviour show time and again, but it's not 100% all the time, so it's always a great result when you can share time in the field with your "pet"and it earns its keep.Gota be happy with that.

Hi Stevemac, there are a number of mounted rider harrier packs in NZ, but no foxhound packs that I know of, in fact there wouldn't be more ten fox hounds in New Zealand at the moment. I have only seen one add for a litter in the last 20 years, the one my bitch came from, and the two pups sat unsold for a while . I can't see them becoming popular here, as the Beagle breed has a huge following as a keen sort after family pet. The harrier hunts keep all their pups and dogs in house only, sending different bloodlines to each other and never sell to the public.I do know of two that were imported f

Getting another pup after the ole gal,is just the ticket,it will keep you young sir ,its a reason to get up in the morning ,its a reason to get out and about in the field. When the sport is shared with your dog, it is simply magic.atbtu

NEVER are two pups the same, they are all different, if an owner cant get the best out of the pup, well that's down to him/her, I myself like a calm pup, just like yours, one that can quickly recover from the general knocks of puppy life. I get walking off the place as soon as they have had their needles, new places are the key, I do so because the sooner the pup gets to learn about life outside of home base, the quicker progress they will make when you start them in earnest. If I have two out together, I'm not bothered if they start to play, they are simply finding all about chasing, turning,

That's a mighty good cross, should get the job done.
