  1. fish mate, stick it on ya finger,
  2. yes, someone is stumping up the money outta their own pocket, for you to spead a couple of hours reading, tell of your days, asking advice or selling items, so as in your own words, donate a fiver
  3. my vets said, anytime after they are 6 month old, and of course it helps if there balls have dropped
  4. yup, you have grommets top and bottom, then depending how far you need to push your pole in the ground, the bottom grommet once worn in, should set itself at the correct hieght as for getting hold of the grommets, try an electrical wholesaler, they do a grommet, very simular that pushed into a metal socket box the the wires to run through, another way, if you cant get the grommets, is to use the elastic bands used by vets to dock tails, fixing your longnet to the poles with a double clove hitch, and then fixing the band in a figure eight position to hold all in place
  5. rent a ferret out ? refering to getting the hob vasectomised instead of castrating it, then using it to bring whole jills out of season, when they dont want to breed or get them speyed and the purpose of the above post was???????
  6. as the pdsa is normally volunteer vets from your local area, it must depend on the area, cos i phoned a few today, and all of them said NO
  7. time of year mate, wait till summer, there be $hite loads about again, those of us that have kept ferts from breeding in the summer, are using them, therefore not many about apart from the rescue's
  8. cheers CC gave them a ring, just in case, but its gone up to £48.53, which is only about a fiver cheaper for the 2, so petrol wise I may as well stick with my local, but thanks for suggesting...
  9. well Ive sorted it out with my local vet, 2 hobs at £50 each which although still dear, means hardly any traveling, they did try it on by saying there was another £40 charge for sending something off after the op, to check that the op was a success, which I argued how could testing something tell you if the "snip" had worked, and the only real way of knowing, is if the jills start having kitts, so they then said the £40 was optional I probably will offer the hobs services to others wanting jills bought out of season, but wont be charging, they will just owe me a favour
  10. just wondering, why moderators have to report to Ian, before carrying out something, Im an admin on a game server, and therefore have the powers to kick people off, or even ban them for 5mins,a day or for ever, the owners can check the computer log's to make sure whatever the "admins" are doing is right, and that theres a good enough reason for a kick or ban, so we cant just do it cos we feel like it so why cany "our" mods do the same
  11. how often do you handle him? if he's nipping, i would guess less rather than more, which only makes matters worst, Id say you need to handle him a MINUMUM of 2hrs a day, maybe get yourself some ferret malt paste from the pet shop, ferts love it, offer it first from the tube, then from your fingers, you need to build up a bond with him, it was your course to get just one, so you need to spend lots more time with him, although even if you have more, time must still be given,
  12. just been trying to get a price on having "the snip" done on a few of my hob ferts getting quotes of £ to £100 each !!!!!!!! heart attack time, found one vets in billaricay thats quoting £50, but anyone know of any others in essex that are ferret friendly and dont charge the earth
  13. my first longnet, i used electric fence poles, the smooth type, not the ones with lugs on, about 21" length with a 6" metal point, work great for tough ground and had a slit in top for putting the head line in, have since gone onto MAGNUM fibreglass poles, £3.70 each but only because i turned net into a quickset net and basket
  14. both ideas are good, i do have a salt lick hanging up in my court, and its used so must be something they need, have you any toys/play things in the hutch, maybe give that a try
  15. Id drop feeding the chicks, and if you cant get rabbit, go for chicken, theres not much goodness in chicks, as kay says, id always opt for feeding too much, as ferts are "hiders" either check each day for hidden food, if they are stock piling, then you know to ease up on the food, or as i do feed 6 days outta 7,
  16. ok moll call me a grumpy old ba$tard, but I've always belived we have rules for a reason, if "we" as a forum have a rule, that there should be a "price" stated in an advert, but we then turn a blind eye to it, we may as well open the doors to everyone and their uncle, yes you can text talk if you want, it shows the new generation Ive always belived that "hunting folk" stick together, help each other etc, a sort of family, and one way of doing that is when you got something you dont want anymore, you offer it first, to those within your comunity, if no one snaps it up, then you offer it o
  17. is it just me but im fed up reading posts that say "offers" if you want a bidding war, pay ya money and stick it on flea bay i thought the rules in the "for sale section" stated that it needed a price, or am i wrong surely ad's like that should be removed or ad's that say "selling for a friend" is that so the seller dont get any comeback??,
  18. think you mate needs to set a price, or sell on e bay, this for sale section does state for sale items need a price, to many people advertise hoping to get higher and higher bids, this aint e bay tell him to set a price, or advertise it himself, at his own cost, rather than free on here
  19. we have left handed versions in work, and although im left handed, taught myself to shoot right handed as have a weak left eye, but have noticed left handed stocks have a sharper cheek to them, so its quite uncomfortable trying to fire a left hander, right handed, where as right handed stocks have a much smoother cheek, if that makes sense
  20. if you get the hob the snip, that will sort it, it dont matter that they brother/sister if he firing blanks, fish, never heard of a jill poisoning herself with eastrogen? getting infected from a dirty hutch whilst in season, yes
  21. looks a good easy way of gutting, although i like to keep the liver, and doing that way id have to bag all the livers seperatly but will still give it a go next weekend
  22. in times like that, use the shovel to block the hole/exit
