  1. i think your getting your terms mixed up a tradditional longnet and a quickset net can be made from the same thing, difference is, a traditional net is put out and the poles added as you go. a quickset has the poles already fixed to the net, and its held in a basket, and put out/fed from the basket basket net is just that, the net fixed on the basket, that holds your longnet/quickset thats a more smaller holed net, much like sparrow netting, to stop the net that its holding, from falling through
  2. happy to help newcomers in ferret keeping/ferreting well, if someone cant have a sense of humour,
  3. thats a well shitty job
  4. have you seen/got actual rat burrows, or are they just coming in from anywhere? if you have burrows,we have terriers and a noiseless smoker if not, I'd go with john's suggestion, pick up some break back rat traps, place in boxes, poison free so no risk to the dogs or little one
  5. firstly get a large ball of cotton wool and pin it to the rear of your jeans, let the ferret out in the garden, every time he come's near you, run away shouting "whats up doc" remember to feed him lots of carrots, so he can see in those dark warrens
  6. good looking run, would have put a steeper incline/slope on the roof, even felted you dont want rain laying on it, and maybe fix the hutch to the side with the pipe going through, as if you put it on top as you suggested, you'll have to move it everytime you want to open the top
  7. sorry, but how is putting bells on, going to stop them coming off obviously your not putting them on tight enough if they can slip them
  8. its a nice name... can you squeal like a pig
  9. its a loca8tor tag, check out the pinned topic top of page "alternative ferret finder"
  10. Ive found a few pellets left in the feeding bowl the next morning
  11. why cant you locate them once down are you not using a locator I can understand the digging in sand precutions, but it would still be handy to know where/depth etc
  12. as stated, feed once its dark, and remove leftovers the next morning, ferrets dont tend to sleep all night, and the soon learn when feeding time is, the jam jar idea is good, but of course you'll end up with a jar of maggots, easier idea is an empty coke/pepsi bottle, drill a small hole in lid, stick a couple of spoonfuls of honey in, diluted with around 1/4ltr of hot water, swiss it around and hang up on outside of cages/courts etc, you'll find it catches both flies and wasps
  13. of course thats no problem, I mean all we do is sit at home all day scratching our balls, sod working, hunting, social life, as long as we make it easier for you guys, thats all that matters I suppose doing all that will automaticaly make members put a price and location in the ad
  14. important point there, just because some species are classed as pests, you still need permission to catch or cull, shooting or catching a pest species in you back garden, and unless you have a good enough reason, you could still be breaking the law
  15. this trap building lark can get addictive, just put this one together for myself using a design simular to one richie built, although made this one non collapsable using johnb's crimpers
  16. funny you should say that, a live catch trap, baited with pidgeon corn or simular, made this large one for a job at work, 8ftx4ft and the smaller one for myself
  17. if your using the newer mk3 collar, they can go on a lot tighter than you think, and if need be, get a hole punch and make more holes, most of my jills will get the collar done upto the first hole (or last, whatever way you look at it) like any animal, fur makes the neck look bigger than it is
  18. if you were to look round my garden, you'd see most of the fencing is mesh , plus, dont know how it happened, but I ordered to many bobwires that they paying for yes tomo, I'll get sorted
  19. the company I work for, have contracts to keep london underground free of pests, one of our contracts is feral pidgeon control, and most nights each week, were culling feral pidgeons on most platforms around london, one large station in north london had problems with feral pidgeons gaining access to a cavity inside a canopy, and therefore causing damage to elecrics etc by way of the gauno (shit) we meshed in the access areas, and although this solved the problem, it just moved them on of course. they now have 100-200 pidgeons roosting on the station roof, that then come down each day to fe
  20. can remember see a few posts on making rosehip syrup, have done a few searches but cant find a "how to do" list, any ideas anyone
  21. you can see by the replies left, that members feel strongly about the correct care for ferrets, and rightfully so, ferrets being cheap to buy or even given away free, deserve looking after correctly, make sure you have a large as possible hutch to keep them in, protected from rain/wind etc, clean woodchip/straw bedding etc, should be replaced weekly at a minimum, make sure fresh drinking water is always available as you wont be catching rabbits straight away, get yourself some dry ferret food not cat food, thee is no need to feed cat food nowdays with ferrets being recognised in the "pet food
  22. I'd give it a wee bit longer mate, untill deben bring out the new mk3 collar, I reckon "old stock" of the now design collar will fall some what
