  1. That pup's a picture of health, credit to you
  2. look in the stud section, there's a cracking 1st cross dog in there!
  3. start of with little bits of road work until his pads toughen up, then lots of roadwork and they will rise up as the tendons tighten up. The only dogs I've seen it on is ones which haven't had much road work or general exercise. But I'm new to it all and haven't seen that many so can't make a judgement if this is the sole reason for flat feet. ATB
  4. There's a guy who sells video's of foxing on the fells/hilly country and he uses collie/grey's. Got a few vids of ferreting and rabbiting on youtube as well.
  5. Same old "Us and Them" .no wonder its hard to get permission . Do you think everyone who shoots is rich ,or a toff ?Oh my Christ. No i don't mate i've shot on driven shoots myself with working class men before. But i know that they wouldn't go mental over a few accidental pheasants if i was taking rabbits off crops that pheasants take cover and feed in. I've got permission on shooting land myself, i do the most i can to avoid taking pheasants but they are roaming birds and accidents happen end of. Does this make you a rich landlord or a toff then? Talk about divide and conquer.

  7. Just keep an eye on them for a few days, his molars could still be coming through. If its really bothering him get someone more experienced with dogs to have a look. ATB
  8. he killed a few pheasants by accident, has he stated he was not on permission. I could understand our anger if it was a dozen pheasants but its not! Think this thread is going downhill very fast.
  9. be interesting to see one work, think they'd be a good animal for quarry that bites back, same with the kelpie. Got a kelpie on my uncles farm and well you can tell when there's a fox in the yard cos his dog house moves about 10m and it weighs a tonne. Put him over a grey and i think you'd get a good fox dog
  10. My pups teeth were all through about 2 week ago so around 6-7 month. It could well be possible it's still teething. Give him a bone from the butchers for something to chew on. Can you see if all his adult teeth are through or not?
  11. ACD are generally more heavily built than the hill collie types, tell me if im wrong but wouldn't this take speed off a first cross? maybe a 3/4 bred acd/grey would be more like a Fx collie/grey?
  12. when your bushing/mooching whatever you call it you don't have dogs on slips generally. I doubt the majority of pheasants caught by lurcher folk are not deliberately caught just are caught in cover or in there seat by a dog with a good nose. I can see why some people would be mad if someone went out deliberately with a lurcher and poached dozens of pheasants but this was not the case. Accidents happen. I don't think you can justify the mass killings of hares by blaming lurcher folk either, but your entitled to your opinion.
  13. it's a few pheasants that's all, how do you know that the land is shot over where he was mooching? There's no shoot near me for miles around and there are plenty of pheasants, I'll happily take them in any form of hunting. They are good eating! At the end of the day these rich landlords and toff's will happily cull hares in huge numbers with guns. Not exactly showing a lot of respect for our NATIVE quarry. But when we take a few pheasants by chance we are committing a crime. Put things in to perspective!
  14. heard some good accounts of 3/4 bred dogs on hares back in the 60/70's from an old man who kept collie lurcher's now just has greyhounds. He mainly coursed at kirby stephen so not the flattest of land but I've seen the photographic evidence and heard some of the tales of the time. Really interesting listening to tales of yesteryear, he said thats what they mainly kept for coursing here in Cumbria and the good un's had the speed and agility to take a winter hare.
  15. Thanks for all the replies, I'm going to follow the advice Casso gave me and also reinforce the recall like you've said Bird. In general the recall is good but it could be better on occasions. Time will tell, hope he comes good, got high hopes for him

  18. hi mate, they are kennelled together but get walked separate in the morning and night and i let them have a play together a few times through the day. Should i not let them out together at all and walk them separate ll of the time whilst im trying to do a bit of basic training? The bitch is a friends who lost his license so cant go out to his kennels at his dads so im looking after it until the season. It's worth mentioning its a lot further behind in its basic training than my dog. cheers Jake p.s. your inbox is full

  21. went last year it wasn't bad, quite a few stalls and they had quite a bit for the ferreting people as well as the dogs
  22. My pup retrieves balls/toys etc well yet when it comes to a rabbit skin dummy he wants to stash it and will not retrieve it at all. Any advice or help appreciated!
