  1. I'm sorry i have no dog psychology facts for you
  2. ha i cant be ars*d trying to put my view across anymore, as they say agree to disagree
  3. i'm just going off the experience i had with the vets mate.
  4. Oh and mad al yes i've been with one of my dogs when this has happened. it doesn't make me a hard man i just know it was the quickest way for the dog to go
  5. When a dog gets taken to the vets its knows whats going to happen. when the needle goes in they know what happening and its not nice. A bullet to the head is far quicker and the dog has never went through the experience of knowing its going to die. In my opinion its more humane, if it wasnt im sure by now people shooting animals such as fox in the wild would be using a dart gun to kill the animal because its more "humane" the only thing about shooting a dog in the field that people don't like is the blood
  6. fair play to you 6pack, at the end of the day everyones different in the way they work their dogs and like chalkwarren said we must always call the shots and do what we think is best
  7. i agree with you there , recently sold my first cross collie grey at 11 month old cos of various reasons nothing to do with the dog and was fairly gutted then. But working dogs are working dogs if they can't work in the prime of their lives then they shouldn't be in a working man's kennels/house dont you think?
  8. a dog that you've put the time into it and it has succeeded to catch the quarry you choose the breed for consitantly
  9. Ideation, if the dog wasnt up to it at all you'd be able to tell what by the time its 24 month? not a decade? i couldn't get rid of a dog i'd spent that long with
  10. Surely you'll always get a bit of wastage from a litter, just ask the greyhound men. yes best to best is going to improve your chances but some dogs will never make the grade. If you had one kennel space and you had a dog a few seasons and it wasnt doing what you required of it what would you do? keep it for a possible 10 years until it died and not work any dog? or would you try and find a suitable home and if it couldnt be found get the dog pts and start a fresh with a new pup thats should do the business. If you truely do like working dogs and the sport which comes from it i dont think you
  11. I agree taking any animal to the vets to be pts is a bad way to go, they know its coming, rather a nice walk in the field... but in my opinion if you have a pup and you give it a season or two and its not doing what you wanted i.e. a fox dog not doing fox then it should be neutered and rehomed not bred from. If this isn't possible then a walk in a field is a nice way to end it and there won't be any useless pups bred from it that could have had the same fate or worse At the end of the day good mating should solve this meaning more pups will stand a chance of becoming better than average dogs
  12. as above and its the magic from scotland im interested in cheers
  13. GD, i can i just haven't seen many of that cross about, definatley need some collie influence though for a dog to be a good jack of all trades, main reason for ferreting and mooching. But yeah i guess the salui influence would give a bit more stamina. Has anyone got this cross?
  14. 3/4 bred collie grey. fast enough for daytime hares (preban), brains, stamina, good feet and coat
  15. oh right cheers, so how did the dog compare to a saluki lurcher running on the fens? more up and at them?
  16. I a dog can have 4 out of 5 on the fens how is not a good fen dog? forgive me if i'm being naive im a beginner really
  17. Both smashing dogs, how do they compare then speed wise? i know the bull x is only 8 month but which one do you reckon will be the fastest?
  18. I'm not sure really, maybe 26 tts. His sire was 27 and a half and dam was only 23tts. but he's taken more to the sire i think and he's quite big for his i think.
  19. I might go to a few shows this summer to see the all the different dogs people are running and maybe pick some ribbons up but i'm not all that fussed with it, as long as he does well in the field .
  20. Alright, £150 so im very pleased. i knew the man i got him off though....
  21. Thanks for the comments chuffed with him so far. very fast for just a pup!
  22. Picked him up on Saturday, 4 1/2 month old 20tts at the minute. Hoping he makes a decent dog, i was told casper is his grandsire so he has the breeding there .
