  1. This bugger is nuts but he talks some sense,
  2. I like that x, probably what i go for next time i need a lurcher pup, have beddy x now, do ok for me but both hard mouthed. fancy something easier to handle and hopefully not hard mouthed. Had a collie for ferreting last dog, found her easy to handle as you would expect also nice soft mouth. I like the idea of whippet in the mix for the type of hunting i do, the grey whippet should produce a little bigger than the collie/whippet, i like a dog about 23" if possible.
  3. Great pics, the first one is a cracker. ATB.
  4. I thought that. Maybe because the Dam was the whippet? And a non-ped at that? Possibly some greyhound a bit back? Not many non ped racers that don't have greyhound in somewhere along the line. Nice russell cross.
  5. Midge repellent, the buggers butch you up there when i go up fishing.
  6. My mate had a Cocker whippet x years ago, was best ratching dog I have ever seen, looked like a Patterdale terrier, don't have a pic unfortunately.
  7. What's all the numbers for? The numbers d300 d700 are camera bodys, -200, 70-200 are the focal length of the lenses. 1.4,1.8, 2.8 are different aperture lenses, they enable you to take pictures were you would struggle with a kit lens of say f4.5 to f5.6, you will get good pics with the kit lens in good conditions but on cloudy darker days, low light, high speed action pics you would struggle thats when such as the 2.8 zoom lens will benefit you, it can stay at 2.8 through the full focal length while the cheaper lenses struggle for light the 2.8 will probably do the job. Hope this helps, i
  8. Don't think anyone is saying that Gaz, the fella is wanting to do wildlife photos, you have a better chance with superior kit. Not saying spend a fortune but buying second hand you can get far superior kit for the same money. Just how i think anyway mate, just a view as you are giving your view. ATB.
  9. I see you have a website mate, going to have a look later. That osprey pic is brilliant.
  10. I always buy second hand, as thats what I can afford..Ive only ever bought one camera new, a Nikon D300.. Yes you can get D300 and D300`s cheap now, a couple of hundred quid for a cracking camera, in good light and lower ISO `s but totally suitable for wildlife. I had a D700 and D300 and must admit I couldnt get away with the full framer at first, but, I once I mastered it, I would never go back to a DX D300...full frame cameras always produce better quality images.. My D700 has 300k +accuations..if it goes, then it will be another one for me, around £500+ second hand on ebay. We think
  11. I agree 100% with j darcy, low light, fast action you are going to struggle with a slow kit lens. You could also pick up a 50mm prime cheap 1.4 or 1.8. Great for low light ferreting shots.
  12. -200-mm-1-2-8-D-LENS-NIKKOR--200mm-f-2-8D/281965005600?_trksid=p2141725.c100338.m3726&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20150313114020%26meid%3D6f3429f1edc44209ad73fc3d79e99bf6%26pid%3D100338%26rk%3D14%26rkt%3D23%26sd%3D231861670977'>http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NIKON-AF--200-mm-1-2-8-D-LENS-NIKKOR--200mm-f-2-8D/281965005600?_trksid=p2141725.c100338.m3726&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20150313114020%26meid%3D6f3429f1edc44209ad73fc3d79e99bf6%26pid%3D100338%26rk%3D14%26rkt%3D23%26sd%3D231861670977 I would be buying something like this
  13. Another good thing about buying second hand is you can buy a entry level camera at a good price then when you gain more skills and want to upgrade you can probably recoup the money you paid out so you won't be blowing money upgrading. If you fancy a nikon google ken rockwell he does great reviews on all nikon gear.
  14. I would buy second hand, people always upgrading. I buy all my gear second hand, you save a fortune, ebay gumtree, preloved all sorts of places for a bargain. I think lenses are more important than the camera body, you need a decent camera but i would spend the bulk of the money on a quality lens or two. don't know anything about canon but you can get a nikon d300 for a couple of hundred pounds and spend the rest on a quality lens, i have a d300 and i can't take better pics on my d700 that cost 3 times as much. Just my opinion anyway, hope you get sorted.
  15. To good of a dog not to take a pup off darbo, you know what you have and ticks the boxes, not a bad thing to follow suit.
  16. I like NL beddy grey type dog, good size nice and long, beddy whip can be good ferreting/ratching dogs but some like my bitch are on the small side so maybe lack a little bit a pace.
  17. Think you said he was a half bred. He has beddy ears on him, I was very surprised at the Light build and speed on him as he not a big dog, about 21" mark. Has a very good nose for marking. A little headstrong as they all tend to be when young but will settle down, it's just drive. My bitch was nuts keen when young but is settling down fine now. I was very surprised he was not 3/4 whippet with the build and speed.
  18. This is the bitch, strong little thing and a determined sort, bugger don't ever want to go home. Pic was taken when i just started with cameras, its crap, pleased i am a bit better with camera now.
  19. Do you mean any lurcher type Brian or a beddy type. It very much depends on the kind of land you running/working and quarry you are after. As in uk it is only rabbits and rats thats all we can talk about. I have 2 beddy x a 18" half bred bitch, good little ferreting bitch, good nose/marker, will work cover, snaps a few missed bolters up, is not bad on rabbits on lamp in small fields were it can get them turning on the fence line although it will smash into the hedge and pull them out. Lacks a bit of pace for a consistent catcher, you would use nets with this bitch if you were after a good bag.
  20. Thank you, it was the shot count i was meaning, probably does, thanks again.
