  1. As long as you have one key, what's the problem? They have never asked me how many keys I have for my cabinets, and the one time he asked me where the keys were, I told him "in a safe place" which he seemed happy with.
  2. Congrats Si! Looks like Davy will need a new hat!
  3. Thanks sporting. Does the sec.11 exemption not only apply to approved clay grounds? So it is legal for someone to purchase carts without a certificate for use on site, but not to take off site? I know that there is a similar exemption for section 1 ammunition for use at an approved club, and for it to be stored on site. My copper friend is going to dig out chapter and verse when they get home.
  4. Get yourself a photobucket account. You can select what size to save them as at upload, or resize them online, then just link to them from the site!
  5. I've always believed that posession of shotgun ammunition is not an offence, and that you only need a certificate to buy it, not to possess it. However, I've just been discussing it with a couple of friends who are coppers, and they are sure that you need a cert to possess the cartridges. They were under the impression that a black powder licence was required. Can anyone shed any light on this? Apparently it's in the firearms act somewhere, though we couldn't track it down. Anyone know if it's true, and if so under what legislation the offence falls?
  6. You might get more replies if you put this in the right section (the one marked "wanted")
  7. Andyfr, the comparison of new Skoda to old Beemer is not quite the same thing. A brand new Skoda is well built, economical and VERY good value for money. The used BMW is likely to have been abused and thrashed, and is likely to fall to pieces in short order. Remember, Skoda are manufactured on the same lines, by the same people using the same machines and materials as modern VW's. They may once have been bags of s###e, but no longer. The comparison of a new cheap springer, in comparison to a second hand quality rifle is very different. A good springer is likely to be well looked after, and
  8. Rake, that's good advice when you run out of vertical adjustment, but if the lack of travel is in the horizontal plane it's difficult to pack the scope out.
  9. I've got a friend who is a sherrifs deputy in Mendocino county!

  10. There's a few things it could be. Firstly check the barrel pivot. If it's loose then that can cause everything to be skewed. Next, check that the mounts are straight. IIRC the lightning mount dovetail is glued to the top of the cylinder with a rubber bit in between to help with the recoil. It's possible this has been distorted or moved in some way. Then check the mounts are straight and central. If possible try a new set of mounts. Make sure everything is the same front and rear, and that they are properly tightened. If you go through these, and it still doesn't sort it, then i
  11. Very nice, two weeks worth of dinners there! Bit of a pig to peel em, but worth the effort IMHO.
  12. Maroon Grand Cherokee 2.5 turbo diesel on a P plate. Clean inside, not been dogged or hammered. 5 good tyres. 12 months MOT Fantastic on road, good and powerful for off road. Tow bar. All round electrics. Front Air bags (driver and passenger) ABS Cruise control 158k miles Alloy wheels Body in good condition for year. A couple of bad points... Rear near side electric window is refusing to work. Shouldn't be too difficult or expensive to fix. Rear wiper motor is stuck. There is a very slight oil leak from the rocker gasket. Bit of
  13. Aaron, the further you can get the laser from the scope, the more obvious a difference in range is. Ste, you can EITHER mount the scope aligned in the vertical plane to the scope, OR in the horizontal plane. If you are not aligned on either then you will not have a spot appearing on the reticule, so accurate estimation will be more difficult. Most people mount the laser under the barrel as this gives them the biggest difference in plane for the smallest apparent increase in size/bulk. Any shooting laser should have some kind of arrangement to allow fine adjustment of alignment for "ze
  14. Good point, remember the distance between the scope and the barrel! I've seen no end of bonnets with flippin great holes in them where someone has forgotten to check the barrel is clear of them. Nice shooting, couple of good meals there!
  15. 151, You can shoot a rabbit as accurately as you like, and still have it flap around. I've shot several where, when retrieved, the skull was completely emptied by the bullet, and they still managed to flap about for ages.
  16. You'll not get a silencer for a .223. The projectile is supersonic so you will always get that component of the noise. The moderator can reduce the noise due to gases expanding. The ASE is a well liked mod, as are the Wildcats. Really down to what's going for a good price at the time you buy.
  17. He doesn't need a shotgun, he needs a cricket bat!
  18. I would avoid using any mineral based oil as a pellet lubricant, as it can lead to "dieseling" and hence large variations in pellet velocity and very poor accuracy (as well as the possibility of damaging the gun) The Napier pellet lube is excellent stuff, and not too expensive when you realise how little you put on. It is virtually non-flammable, and works exceedingly well. Is washing worthwhile? Some say yes, some say no. I don't but then that's more down to me being lazy than anything to do with performance(and I don't really shoot enough pellets for it to be a problem) It's a e
  19. Get rid of the HMR and get a WMR instead! The new ballistic tipped 30 grain WMR's have the same ballistics as the HMR, but much better down range energy delivery!
  20. Ah, the reason I had a visit was because I tied it in with a house move, so the FEO came out to check the security arrangements. He still advised that for a variation I should keep hold of my cert. My variation was to add slots for .243 and WMR.
  21. Moley, whether he had fired it or not is neither here nor there. The offence is POSESSION of an air rifle capable of producing more than 12 ft.lb muzzle energy. Whether you knew or not, even if you've just bought it and walked out of the sellers front door, it is your responsibility. As for stop and search, they have the right to do this if they believe that you have committed, or are about to commit, an offence. You can only have an air rifle in a public place with reasonable excuse. They are unlikely to stop and seize an air rifle unless there is a specific problem in the area, or y
  22. I kept mine when I sent the forms off, on the advice of the FEO. Without your ticket you can't buy ammunition remember! My FEO picked up my old ticket when he came for the interview. I had enough ammunition to last, but he would have given me a temporary ticket if I'd needed it. Speak to your FEO and ask him what's best for them. Remind him that you may need to buy ammunition, especially if the variation is complicated at all. Also, without your cert, you can't take the guns out anywhere. Well, you can, but if you are stopped with them, and don't have a valid cert, then they will seize
  23. Hmmm, someone has been telling you porky pies! Any full bore, full velocity rifle will creat a considerable sonic crack at the muzzle, which no amount of moderation will stifle. You can get rid of the "muzzle blast" caused by the expanding gases, but the sonic boom from the actual bullet you can do nothing about. Any truly quiet rifle round needs to be subsonic, for example the .22LR. I have heard of "slip on" moderators, but only for the smaller calibres. The full bore calibres I think creat too much pressure for any fixing other than a proper screw thread. Anything slip on would almost
  24. John. A slight correction. The bore size represents the number of spherical lead balls the same diameter as the bore which make up a pound. This isn't the same as the weight of shot in the cartridge. As you noted, 12 bore cartridges vary between very light sporting loads for clays, around the 24 gram area, right up to heavy weight wildfowling and foxing loads, of 50 plus grams. Then you have the seriously heavy loads, such as the single slugs and very large shot sizes. A single slug will weigh considerably more than 1/12 of a pound! Other than that slight issue, John gives good advice!
  25. Lee, he only has to be over 21 if the person borrowing is under 18. Other than that, what they said!
