And they are really helpful posts too! Sorry Colster, I misread your post. Of course you are correct, 12's are cheaper than 20's (though there's not much in it) The 20 can be a better gun, depends on what you get on with. I know people who swear by them, and can outshoot most 12 bore shooters with them too!

Fogging on the outside? Sounds like a cold scope and warmer air then, strange! Once the rifle is at ambient air temp, you shouldn't have a problem with it.

There's a few on here who shoot/have shot the Falcon, they might be able to help you. Most leak issues are just o-ring issues, so cheap to fix, as long as you're happy to do a bit of stripping yourself. Even if it was bought privately, second hand, they can't misrepresent it. If they've sold it as good working order and it isn't, I'd be talking to them and asking for a contribution to any repair costs.

Why get the gunsmith to remove the pellet? Get it charged, close the bolt and fire it in a safe direction. The pellet isn't fired from the magazine, it's pushed from the magazine into the barrel when the bolt is closed. This is the way it's supposed to work. If you've not had it long, take it back to where you got it from, sounds like an air leak.

The 18650 isn't two CR123's, it is a Lithium polymer rolled cell. The output is 3.7 volts. The output of the CR123 is 3.6 volts, so two in series give a total voltage of 7.2 volts.

Cheaper to shoot? Where do you buy your cartridges? Round here a decent hunting cartridge, say 30 gram 6's, runs out at about £6 for 25, whereas the .22LR runs out at about £6 for 50. Also the shotgun is hardly a subtle, or quiet tool. It has it's place, I use mine a fair bit, but it's not a substitute or replacement for a .22LR!

If it doesn't have marking on it, does the battery or lamp have any kind of indication on it of polarity? If that doesn't either, then find someone with a multimeter who can test the polarity of the in car charger. It does sound like the sort of thing that is caused by the wrong polarity, though why one manufacturer would use different polarities is a mystery.

As Dadio says, forget the FAC air rifle. You will get a .22LR issued as easily as the FAC air, and the LR has better range and much more impact. It's also FAR cheaper to set up. A reasonable second hand rifle can be had for under £200. My main tool is a Voere semi-auto which set me back £90 with a scope and moderator, and will put ten out of ten in the 1 inch kill zone at 100 yards when I do my bit right. It's far more accurate than I am! As for your target shooting, you need to mix it up a bit. Your rifle may be zeroed at 30 yards, but do you know what the pellet is doing at 10 yards, o

I had a scope which did this fairly regularly. I took the eye bell off and left it in front of the fire for an hour or so, then refitted the eye bell whilst it was still warm, that seemed to cure the problem. The issue is the air inside the scope being warmer than the outside air, and hence the lenses. The air meets the lens and cools, meaning it can't hold the water any more, and so the water condenses out onto the lense.

Have you looked down the back of the sofa? Sorry, couldn't resist. Seriously though, that's shitty luck mate. It's a bit off for the landowner to give you permission, and then take it away again, but I guess there's not much you can do about it apart from get to knocking on the doors. Why do they need to reduce numbers? As long as the people are managed, why is it a problem? Surely the more people shooting, the more vermin will be removed?
-
Well said , i just wish more people thought like this , than trying to push it to the limits Any more than that then I get the .22LR out!

A "12 volt" battery charger will output more than 12 volts. 14 volts is not unusual. It's unlikely to have done any damage to the battery (in fact, there is a method of reconditioning batteries that involves using a much higher rated battery/charger) The most likely thing is the charger is fnorked. The alternative is that the polarity is wrong. Does the car charger have any indication of polarity? The image you put up has the polarity as + on the centre pin, and - on the outside (you can see the little diagram, dot with a line coming from it to a + sign, and the outside ring with a - sign

Must get over there and join in the HFT at some point. I've not shot the air rifle much recently, the .22LR is addictive, so it'd be good to get her out and give her a run.

My Theoben Scirocco runs at a fairly consistent 9.5 ft.lb, and kills rabbits and pigeon out to 40 yards easily. It's more than capable of killing much further than that, it's me that limits it! Power isn't everything.

It's possible, but remember the barrel will have a throat that is slightly wider than the actual rifling, to allow for easier loading. It's no fun trying to force an overly tight pellet into the rifling by hand. It's often difficult to find out if a particular pellet is .5 or .6, and there's no guarantee either will be better. The .6 will certainly be tighter in the rifling, which could cause more friction than is necessary, but it's not an exact science. What pellets are you trying at the moment?
-
Dogman, people can tell you what shoots well in their rifle, but not what will shoot well in yours. Each barrel and action is slightly different, even within the same batch, and so will like different pellets. The only way to find out which is the best in your rifle is to try several different pellets. The ones recommended above represent good quality, well produced and consistent pellets. Whether your rifle shoots well with them is a different matter.

You can hold a firearms certificate at 14. You will not be able to buy a rifle or ammunition. You can be given one as a gift, and you'll need someone over 18 with an FAC to buy ammunition and then transfer it to you.

Your local police firearms department might have their own form that they like you to use, give them a ring and ask. You don't HAVE to use the form, it just helps you to make sure they've got all the information they need I suppose. I just write a letter stating date, time, name, address and certificate number of seller/purchaser and myself, serial number, make, model and calibre, that the weapon was transferred and that I completed the relevant parts of their certificate, or vice versa. They should also write to their licencing department stating that they have sold or acquired the weapon

Ade, put your roosting bars up high, and your nest boxes down low. They always like to roost above where they lay. I reckon the simpler the better. Always make the roost bars out of square timber. Round is difficult for them to grip and perch on. Make sure that it's easy to get in and clean. Red mites are a big problem, and if you build a place that's all nooks and crannies, if they get in they'll be an absolute sod to get rid of. There are plenty of good chicken keeping forums around, have a look at some of those for ideas.

Or learn to stalk in closer, or learn the trajectory of your .22. More than capable of 100 yard shots once you know the trajectory!

No it's not. Read back through the posts.

You're supposed to send the letter recorded delivery. Helps you when they lose it, you can show them the receipt.

The ferrets are in pouches made from flaps, held up with the string. It's threaded in such a way that when she pulls the string it releases the flaps, which release the ferrets and drop down, exposing their inner face rather than the fur outer face. Pretty clever bit of design, and I don't think it's cruel. As for the fox, it's obviously been trained from a pup, it's not struggling when it's round her neck. It's a very clever little act!

New torch arrived today
matt_hooks replied to North Wales Hunter's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
Feeling a bit let down. I ordered one, it arrived and it's fnorked! My little Maglite Solitaire gives more light, and that's when it's on high power. I think the LED is shafted, as I've tried several different batteries and it's the same with all of them. I've messaged the seller, will see what they have to say. -
Is this SGC (3 shot) or FAC?
