Ahhh Bircham, I've got some Great Bircham Windmill mugs somewhere, from a long ago visit.

And then you post it on a public forum. Clever that! So, you had the chance to do lots of things, and you decided to beat the bloke up. Now, I'm not saying that you shouldn't confront him, but kicking someone when they're down is about as manly as pink wellies! You expect to come on here and get a slap on the back? You "tried to force a fight out of him" and when he didn't fight you kicked him around a bit. Bet you feel like the big man now! Sorry, but two wrongs don't make a right. Call the police and let them do their job! call the police get a grip you fool why dont

It was the shape of that top field that had me wondering, it's unusual to see a field that shape, with the sides so perfectly parallel. I know there are loads of old wartime bases over that way. I know Heacham fairly well, and up the coast a bit to Hunstanton and Kings Lynn. Did they not turn Snettisham into a race track at one point? Gotta love twin 20mm cannon, though I wouldn't have fancied that seat in the war, best place in the world to get shredded by Messerschmitts!

Moley, out of interest, could you pm me the grid ref (lat/long or a google map link is fine). It looks like an old airfield, I'm always interested in those! Can you get into the fields in a vehicle? Often you can get closer in a vehicle than on foot.
-
Can you walk down the track without the torch? Woodies make excellent alarms for the bunnies, plus with the torch there's always the risk of light spilling in to the field and tipping off the bunnies. I'm an ex smoker, and it took two lots of open heart surgery (not smoking related I hasten to add) to get me to stop. Most of that first post was in jest, though the points stand.

All sorts of animals go for the casts, in the highlands a good set of antlers don't last long on the hill when cast before everything gets at them.

It's a great idea, with one major pitfall. It relies on you having something of known size to use for range finding. Sadly bunny ears (or other parts) aren't a uniform size (in fact they vary greatly) and it's difficult to tell how big a bunny is at range. Reminds me of the Father Ted episode "This one is small, and THIS one is far away!" If you bunny's ears fill A and B, you might think that they are at your .22 zero range. But if they are a small bunny, and have two inch ears, then in fact they are far closer than you think. Ditto if your target buggs has much bigger ears, you'll be unde

Excuses excuses! Man up! Know all about sub-cut injections, had to inject myself with an anti clotting agent for a few weeks a while back, don't envy you having to do it all the time mate! I do have to finger prick test occasionally, but thankfully not every day. You should put a little insulin in the back of the pellets, perfect poison! You'd not need to worry about penetration, a few drops of that would have bunny turning up his toes in no time! As for the fags, surely one major illness is enough, without all the nasty illnesses that come with smoking? Anyway, if you've had a f

There's a whole argument about whether you need to reproof when cutting down and/or threading. My belief, according to the law, is that it's not necessary. It's only necessary for you to do it if it's for sale anyway, you can cut it down and keep it and never bother about re-proofing. For it to require a re-proof, it needs to seriously adversely affect the strength of the barrel. Screw cutting doesn't, unless you take a heck of a lot of material off, and cutting down doesn't weaken anything, though it is arguable whether it's significant enough to need the re-proof. As for cost, a proof is

Firstly, lose the fags. Bugs will smell smoke on you a mile off! Secondly, what's with the foamy mat? Real men don't use shooting mats! Thirdly, ditto the above, but shooting bag. Fourth, why do you have a bottle of lube? Surely the idea is to shoot them, not shag them to death? Nice shiny rifle (there's one of your s's) with lots of straight lines (s for shape) You can wear all the camo in the world, but movement is still going to catch bugs' eye. They don't bother too much if you're still, but those eyes have had thousands of years of natural selection that says they are good a

Moley will be along shortly to sing the praises of Hatsan!

Peak, you're just being silly now. A householder has the right to report someone being aggressive at their door, doesn't matter who they are. As I said, efforts are being made to include everyone in the census. Teams are being sent to traveller sites, all sorts of different immigrant communities, everyone. If people choose not to participate (for whatever reason, and whatever their background) then they somewhat lose their right to complain. Like I said peak, I don't care whether you choose to fill it in or not. If you are unfortunate and get a £1000 fine, you'll be the first one on

What do you mean "again"? And no, I don't. Frankly I don't give a flying f##k if you fill in the forms or not, but just remember that the people who are working to get the census together are on not much better than minimum wage, and are working hard. The last thing they need is twats who think they're big and clever getting in their faces and giving them grief. And if you abuse one, then expect a visit from the police, I've seen some of the training and it's compulsory to report abusive people to the managers, who are supposed to pass the details on to the police to deal with. If

Totaly agree! Just read if they're not in by a certain date they send somone round to fill them in. what the fucks the country coming to when we're all forced to declear nearly all our personal info......... I wonder what hours the census nosey twats work? With me working 70 hours per week and being out fishing, shooting or at the gym at night during the week and at weekends the only time to catch me at home is between half ten / eleven at night and half six / seven in the morning. Firstly, the "census twats" are just people like you and me trying to earn a few quid in hard

I thought he had your parents address? If so, what's the risk to your kids? I wonder if this thread might be apposite?

Snap, sniper scopes they aren't. They seem pretty well designed to be zeroed in, and then left there. I have one on my PCP, and one on my .22LR, and I've not touched the turrets since I first zeroed them. They seem to take all the knocks and bumps, and just keep on doing the job. Apparently their customer services are excellent too. For the money I don't think you can go wrong, and people use them on spring powered air rifles, which are far worse for knocking the scope around than an HMR! I'd say if they're a good price, then go for it. You won't be disappointed (and no, I'm not an employe

A big thumbs up to Hawke. You wouldn't get that sort of service from the likes of Bausch and Lomb (sorry Bushnell). Of course Swarovski have their unlimited replacement warranty if your scope gets bent, but for the thick end of £2k you'd expect it. I love Hawke scope. I have one on my PCP, and one on my .22LR, and have never had any problems with them. I've not tried one on a springer though.

To get a decent ballistic co-efficient with a .25 pellet, it needs to be heavier than one of the smaller pellets. This means that it must be fired slower to remain under the 12 ft.lb limit, and so the trajectory is even more rainbow like than the .22. This is the main reason it's not so popular for non-FAC air rifles. There are a few manufacturers who make their models in .25 but these are normally rifles that start out as much higher powered hunters, in the states and other places where there are no power restrictions. They are then "de-rated" to make them UK friendly. In sub 12 ft.lb, th

Amount of land is not important. I got my main permission, less than 50 acres, cleared for "full bore" which basically means anything up to .308 realistically. I got a .243 slot on the back of it. It's not about the amount of land, it's about safe lines of fire. If your fields are completely flat, and you have a main road running alongside with only a wire fence to divide it, then I doubt you will get it cleared for anything really, no matter how big it is. The FEO said that mine was marginal, but because I'd put the thought in to safe lines of fire, and could show him where I was planning

I've got an angle grinder, that'll get the barrel off! As for doing it without wrecking the rifle, sorry, no help here.
-
Whats your gun shop of choice around here Matt? Cheers, Oli There aren't many to choose from. Woodland Enterprises at Shefford have a good selection new and second hand, and are helpful and very knowledgable. One is ex FEO, and the other owns most of the stalking rights in Berkshire. Have a good haggle with Billy, he loves it! Wiltshire Rod and Gun have a fine selection of guns, and again are friendly and knowledgable. On a smaller scale, you have Bozards over at Lambourn Woodlands. The guy owns and runs it, and he is a Purdey trained gunsmith. He has a good selection of

A washing machine motor isn't ideal, although it will do the job if you're clever with your wiring. Obviously, although in theory a motor and a generator are identical, practically a motor is not an ideal generator, and vice versa. Of course, a washing machine motor is cheap and readily available. It's all about getting the right compromise.

Doug, what sort of system are you looking at? Are you looking at something that will provide 12 volt power to charge a battery, or will you be looking at inverting it up to mains voltage? Obviously the former will be far cheaper and easier to achieve, but will limit the applications.
