  1. What sort of PX are you thinking of?
  2. Those "detox" drinks look like a load of cod science. "The detox drink stops your body from metabolising fat, and so releasing the chemicals stored in the fat cells" So basically it's a bottle of sugary water, for £35! Sounds like a good wheeze to me! Frankly, all of these products are rip-offs. You need to stop taking the drug for the time needed before the test, it's the only way to be sure of passing. I'd agree that unless the drug affects your work, the drug test is a totally unfair imposition. What business is it of theirs what you do outside work? Alcohol is a far more potent, a
  3. Wet and windy is the best, because it helps to hide any noise you make, and also dissipates your smell faster. Also, wet nights tend to be overcast, and hence darker at night. Lamping is fine as long as you don't over lamp one particular field. Late afternoon/early evening, and early mornings can pay off, and you are less likely to have a field full of jumpy bunnies. I shoot bunnies all year round, as and when I can, as the places I shoot they are a risk to the livestock so it's a "get rid of as many as possible" job. If you want to control numbers but keep the sport good, then you ne
  4. Yeah, a lot of FEO's don't really understand the power of the humble .22LR. Not many will give fox as the main "reason to hold" a .22LR, but there is nothing illegal about shooting a fox with one unless your conditions preclude it. There are arguments about possible claims of causing un-necessary suffering, but a headshot at a sensible range (out to about 40 or 50 yards, depends how good a shot you are and how well you know the rifle) will cause virtually instant death. The LR doesn't have the punch to reliably get through the heavy muscles/bone, so chest shots are out, but it'll easily pe
  5. The written permission is neither here nor there. You'll be given a "closed" certificate first off, which means you can only shoot on land that has been checked and approved by the firearms officer for the relevant area. A lot of farms are already checked, so your first port of call will be the firearms licencing department of the area the land lies in. They will be able to tell you if the land is already approved. If it's not then you will need to wait for the FEO to come and check it before you can shoot it. If you have a lot of permissions, then you will probably be able to apply for the re
  6. The milk sack is fairly obvious for what it is. It's white, and if you squeeze it it oozes what is obviously milk. Mammalian fat is normally a yellow colour, especially the sub-cutaneous stuff. Either way, the animal is fine for eating, as long as it passes the normal tests. Actually, there are very few bunny problems which make them unsafe to eat. Even mixy is not transmissable to humans (though they don't look very pleasant).
  7. The maths is good. He's donating 95% of the selling price. This means that he'll still trouser £595 (if the bidding stays where it is) for a wetsuit that's probably worth £50 if that! Good on that man!
  8. Not quite. The pellet begins to drop FROM THE LINE OF THE BARREL as soon as it's fired. Your air rifles scope is at an angle to the barrel, to compensate for the pellet drop. It is set at an angle such that your pellets trajectory passes through the line of sight of the scope twice. This is necessary because the pellet starts out below the line of sight, then passes through the line of sight on the way up, and then drops through the line of sight again on the way down. The second point where the arc of the pellet intersects with the direct line of sight of the scope is where we w
  9. Knocked over a pigeon the other day at 140 yards with the .22, 4 mildots hold over!
  10. Yeah yeah, going in to the match, only a fool would have backed the Irish. Sadly, the English team seemed to think they were there for a game of pattercake rather than rugby. That, and several missed kicks, totally screwed us. Well played the Irish, sorry we couldn't have given you a bit more of a game. We made it easy for you, but fair play you took advantage of it and stuffed us. As for the championship, I still don't see Wales putting enough points past France to clinch it, so I think it's safe. I'm just f#####g livid at the England team, they didn't turn up today, against a
  11. Maybe England will turn up for the second half! Useless c###s!
  12. Anyone who'se seriously considering putting money on Ireland needs their head read, IMHO. England need to be a bit more disciplined than last week, but the Grand Slam is there for the taking.
  13. "Dawn in London and the glad sun spreads it's warm glow over the spires and battlements of Willesden Green's famous self eating sausage and mash factory. Over the tall, tubular tenement that is the headquarters of Danger Mouse, the worlds greatest secret agent, and his dauntless assistant Penfold, who even now is hoping for more new daunt to arrive by the morning post."
  14. Nope. Got the H7R here too, fantastic bit of kit. Wouldn't use it for sighting though, I find it doesn't point in the right direction. Use a cheapo eBay torch with the remote switch for that, but the head torch is great for finding your way around, and for finding what you've shot, and especially for gutting as it keeps both hands free!
  15. Rhoderick, drop me a pm, I might be able to put you in touch with someone who can give you a bit of experience. Where abouts are you?
  16. A 12 ft.lb .22 air rifle will have sufficient energy to kill a rabbit out past 60 yards. However, the accuracy and pellet drop at that range means it's not a good tool for those ranges. The limiting factor, as hunter says, it's not the energy retained, it's the shot placement. There are people on here who are perfectly capable of killing crows and rabbits out past the 40 yard mark, some are capable of the necessary shot placement at greater distances. It's down to how good you are, and how much practice you have with the rifle. I struggle with the air rifle at the moment, because I've got
  17. No dick measuring going on Davy, I just find the maths and ballistics stuff interesting, and value the input of other members with practical knowledge and experience. Markha, you forgot the Bric, Tunisian filled pancake, good for eating!
  18. Sorry to hear about your loss, it's always sad when we lose someone, but even more so when it's unexpected and sudden. The person that would be liable for prosecution/loss of licence for giving an unauthorised person access to firearms is the certificate holder. I know the police have a bad rap, but they don't often try and prosecute in the afterlife. The wife has not committed an offence, and neither have you. The police will be more interested in getting the guns into safe storage, they won't be worried about who had access to them in the past. I would recommend getting your local R
  19. And yes, you can do it without a lamp, but you're looking at spending several hundred quid as a starting price.
  20. Have a search through the thread on here, it's something that comes up pretty much every week, and there's shedloads of good advice.
  21. You and your eastern european kit! You know that the Daystate pellets are made in the Czech Republic right?
  22. The shotgun pellets start out with a lot less energy per pellet anyway, and then they have a pretty rubbish ballistic coefficient, so they slow down (and hence lose energy) much faster than the air rifle pellet. A number 6 shotgun pellet is roughly 0.1 of an inch in diameter, and has a mass of around 1.6 grains (1/10 that of the airgun pellet). So at a MV of 1400fps, the pellet starts out with 7 ft.lb of energy. Ballistic coefficient for a round ball can be fairly accurately estimated using B.C. = Ball Wt. in grains divided by (10640 x ball dia. x ball dia.) So BC=1.6/(10640x.
  23. They come up pretty regularly on Freecycle and Freegle. Our chicken house/shed was from there, and it's the most solid shed I've ever seen!
  24. Sweet, the Falcon gets an outing then! Where is it? Let me know if you need more fire power!
  25. The general licence is only really for birds, as all wild birds in the UK are protected by law, and it's only under the terms of the various general licences that you can shoot some species. Ground game and vermin, stuff like rats, squirrels, rabbits and hares, are not generally protected. You can shoot them at any time of year, and using whatever kit you want. BASC amongst others publish a list of "legal" airgun quarry. A google search should tell you all you need to know about legal quarry. How old are you? It makes a big difference to the legal position. Edited to add, I'll
