  1. And there was me thinking it was just an excuse for gratuitous shots of women with big tits in bikini's, my bad!
  2. Chaz, Davy, I'm gutted I missed this one. I had to go in to work to deal with a deer, so I got some shooting in but lost out on my saturday. When's the next one so I can book the time off now?! Looks like the usual excellent turn out, I was looking forward to getting over there. C'est la vie.
  3. There's a difference between what an air rifle CAN kill, and what it is humane (and legal) to kill with it. Air rifles are serious tools, and can do a LOT of damage. They CAN kill foxes, cats, dogs, swans, small children (all of these I've seen reported in the press). It only takes a small amount of power to destroy some of the more sensitive areas and extinguish life. A brain shot on a rabbit requires a striking energy of less than 2 ft.lb to kill, an 11.6 ft.lb air rifle will be at this level out past 100 yards (not saying it'll be accurate at that range, but the energy is there). As
  4. It's a big no I'm afraid. The trick to shooting a springer, or gas ram, accurately is consistency. Consistency of aim, consistency of trigger pull and most importantly consistency of rest. A bi-pod, or any other rest that changes, will give you problems. You might well get the rifle to zero on a grass bank, and then you try and shoot off a hard surface and the point of impact will change totally.
  5. Moley, assuming your average plod knows one end of a shotgun cartridge from another is somewhat hopeful. Also it is not illegal for you to posess them. Thirdly, the explosive charge you worry so much about is actually extremely stable and no real risk. You would be safe to drop them in the nearest litter bin. Unconfined, even if they manage to smack the primer with sufficient force to ignite it (pretty unlikely) all you'll get is a bit of a pop, the shotgun relies on the chamber to direct the energy to propel the shot. That said, if they're coming down anyway, it's a good way of getting ri
  6. Diverd, why should you give a damn about them losing their FAC's? They don't give a damn about the law, and probably aren't too worried about animal welfare or safety either.
  7. The LR burns all its powder in the first dozen or so inches of the barrel. Extra length can help with stability of the rifle, but will make little difference to the flight of the bullet.
  8. Rake, or whoever the book is with currently, have you got an ISBN and/or title and author for it? It sounds interesting, I've just finished a book on ballistics and would love to have a read of this book.
  9. Hmmm, their own forum. I think this is one of those occasions that calls for the grand tradition of "forum raiding" to be revived. The idea is we all join up, and then spend a few hours/days (basically until we are all banned) doing as much as possible to disrupt the forum.
  10. What you need is ice on it. I reckon about a dozen ice cubes, with three fingers of scotch, should ease the pain!
  11. How do we know this is the same guy? He's offering face to face, something the Grahams have never done, it wouldn't really be conducive to the type of scam they run. If he's been positively identified, either by IP address or some other means, then fine, but I don't see any foundation for the accusations. (I'm not vouching for him, I have no idea who he is, but I don't see much that suggests he is one of the Grahams) If there is proof then I think we should be shown it. I'm afraid dodgy spelling isn't nearly enough evidence.
  12. Guess Shannon is driving you down for the meet at the end of the month then! Is it still ok to beat a man on crutches?
  13. Si, nice vid. Just noticed in the first clip that the pellet never seems to go above the horizontal of the cross hairs. What range is the rifle zeroed at?
  14. Don't aim with a shotgun. Fatal error made by most rifle shots when faced with a shotty! You need to keep both eyes open, keep the gun swinging and just let your natural instincts take over.
  15. Were you standing next to him then Davy?
  16. Last time I fished Olney, it was run by Beds A C, but that was a good dozen or so years ago, not sure if they're still going even. Nip in to one of the angling shops in Bedford, they should know who runs what waters. The place in Kempston, Bleak Hall Angling I think it's called, seem pretty knowledgable.
  17. All depends on the BC, weight and sectional density of the pellet, and the individual pellet form. In .22, you should have about 7 or 8 ft.lb left at 40 yards. With .177, it'll be more like 4 or 5.
  18. Dan, if you know the poster of that, then tell them that they have every right to a refund, as they were sold them by a business they come under the "sale of goods act" and must be "substantially as described, of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose". It sounds like the lights fail on at least two of those tests, probably all three, and the buyer is entitled either to a replacement/repair at the cost of the retailer or to a full refund. Sounds like they aren't the best people to deal with, which is a shame as they are the only supplier of some parts that I wanted for my rifle. Oh well
  19. I was looking at their website earlier and nearly fell over when I saw their prices. The gun light is available unbranded from China (ok, you have to wait a few weeks for it) for less than £20 including two batteries and a charger. All you need then is the remote switch (£10 MAX!) and a method of securing it to your scope, again less than a tenner. Charging £250 for that set up seems a little hopeful. Paul is Paul Newell, coincidentally the name of the founder of Snipersystems (and purportedly the designer of their bipods) is Fala Newell..... Now I understand that they are out there to
  20. What do you mean by "illegal" ? No laser is illegal, it is only in use that they become illegal. A low powered laser will probably give you a better dot size than a more p[owerful one, unless you spend a lot of money. The ND3 might be worth looking at, if you are happy to spend £300 odd on it. What are you using the laser for?
  21. I'll grab some pics tomorrow when it's sunny again. Posting via RFD would add about £30 onto the cost, depending on who you use. Where abouts in the NE are you? I will be meeting up with some mates from up your way in a few weeks time and could poss send the rifle up with them? PM me with location if you prefer.
  22. These damn beef springs! Seriously though, don't touch an Ox spring, they ruin perfectly good rifles (and often the wrong one is fitted, taking them over the legal limit) As for the SMK, the man asked for a DECENT rifle! I have an original Theoben Scirocco, runs at about 10.5 ft.lb, shoots straight and true. £200.
  23. I've seen rabbits kick for that long, and longer, with half their skull removed and brains smeared across the grass. It can take a while for the autonomic nervous system to realise that the brain is dead, and muscles twitch a lot as they die from oxygen deprivation.
