This maybe a silly question but why is Wirral countrymans dog so clean after a dig and whwt's is filthy, have you got some dirt repelling shampoo wc
-

Sounds like a dog before it's time, what I don't understand is why people used it over bitches when it was mute if as you say it was pre locator. Nowadays I can understand people wanting that dog but surely a Bayer mixer type would be better suited for back then. But I can fully understand the interest in this dog, it's name probably pops up several times in many pedigrees and probably in many pedigrees people don't know about.

Why was he passed on so many times if he was such a good dog?? Not doubting his quality but could it not be possible that the dogs only a legend because of the people who owned him rather than his ability under the sod?

Got one and it's great, make sure you've got a fast internet though

IMO a terrier facing an animal bigger than its self under ground is a very different job to a lurcher chasing and killing an animal a fraction of its size, brave still but a different ball game all together.the two should never be compared

Will This Box Work With B&f Coller
timmy k replied to young man's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Just found out that these boxes turn on the collars by swiping them over the front, don't know how or why and found it out by accident, do any of the other boxes do this? It was in send mode when it happened. -

Your not taking hours here, say for instance I have the cheap box and mate has the expensive one, we put the dog to ground and have a race to see we're the dog is and depth, he'll know probably 30 seconds before is know on a small to medium earth on a large sprawling earth add a minute or two there's not a lot in it as far as terrier works concerned, but if I were in an avalance I know which I'd prefer!! -
Will This Box Work With B&f Coller

I'm glad your dogs alright marshman but a big annoyance of mine is people starting to locate the dog before it's had time to settle, these boxes make that process quicker and before you know it they've got the spade out. One of the best parts of a dig to me is letting the dog go, crack open the flask, sarnies out, realise I'm the only one who's brought sarnies so shared round, and then a few laughs and tales of previous digs and experiences then when the fat b*****ds have ate all my lunch box we locate the dog. HAPPY DAYS! -
Will This Box Work With B&f Coller

Got one and it works, as has been stated slow and steady is the key, only problem is if the terriers having a bit of a hard time and theirs a bit of to and fro'ing the box can go a bit mad but it settles, I have used the more expensive boxes and the price difference shows in the speed it takes to locate, but as I've stated on this forum before to many people are in a rush to get down to the dog, maybe they should have one of these boxes and they might realise their dogs aren't as good as they think they are. -
Always done right by me, had a few bad injurys on different dogs, he clicked back together like a transformer, I followed his instructions and they were right as rain in the time he predicted, nice fella at a good price and does a good job maybe not as in depth as some would like but for the price you can't complain.

Yep agree with you their Luke , tell her to phone the police and wait their for them to come, see what happens when they realise what they've trodden across a field for, she won't be in a rush to phone the plod again.

Are these calls on a sd card and come with a hand held speaker? If so how big is the speaker and does it play the calls on a loop
-
I don't think low numbers are all down to being over worked, mxyi and that other disease ( I'm sure someone will enlighten me on what it's called) play a huge part, not to mention less land and more motor cars, then you've got an increase in predators such as foxes, hawks, badgers and stoats all which are protected in one form or other and they pick off what little is about after everything else has done its deed.

I wasn't referring to you soft arse I was referring to the fella who told me, I think I wrote the reply wrong or you read it wrong, so for arguments sake we will say it's your fault. And sort a night out for next week let me know when your free

No it was him wasn't aware of the book to be honest
-
Someone told me it came right from the horses mouth and you know him to bosun
-
A well known laky breeder added them into his line to improve their looks so I'm told, dunno how well they worked but they certainly look good. Maybe someone can confirm this as it's only hearsay and I'm not going to soil someone's name with rumours.

I never have mate as my post says, always by the legs, when I said tried I ment when I've been grasping to get a hold of anything when their just out of reach such as under a tree or rock or just when I've been a bit off on a dig
-
I think he means to short, in the second pick the dogs dick is longer, I wouldn't worry about though tails are only good for wagging, I've never been able to pull a dog out by the tail and when I've tried the little fookers must sense it and tuck it between their legs.

Kennel Bedding - Shredded Paper
timmy k replied to dayredfern's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
I presume you keen the wax paper, tried it , dogs threw it out of their kennels ( all three of the twats), made a right mess and won't be using it again. I've still got nearly a full bale here. -
Have a look on the reverse 3/4 cross thread if your worried about them being to heavy, theirs some handy looking dogs on that thread but it all depends on what your after and the ground your running on, some of the places I go in Wales suit the heavier mooching type but I'm a sucker for a fast rangy hound so I know what I'd choose.

Try finding a greyhound with all the attributes you'd want in a lurcher and then try asking the owner if you can put your collie over it, most will f**k you off, a lurcher ( or long dog ) with a proven track record in the field doing the type of work I would be doing would be my choice of cross. I do agree sourcing a pup would be the easy option but where's the fun in that?
