Theirs a saying that goes everyone knows everyone through 12 steps, or something along those lines, which basically means for instance I know someone who knows someone who knows someone who knows someone who knows someone ect ect who knows Arnold swartzanegger. So if I can get to know arnie surly you can get to know the terrier man down the road!

Who me? I'm not talking about replicating looks but attitude
-
But aren't we trying to improve on what we have or at least replicate. It can't be achieved with mismatch breeding
-
It's a bit of a bad argument comparing footballers or boxers kids to working bred animals. Is both the father and mother great boxers? probably not. we're their parents great boxers? Don't think so. We're they inbred to keep that boxing gene shining through? Only if they live in Wigan. These are all things I'd expect to see in a good terriers family tree and the very reason you've got a better chance of a good little grafter.

By the way I hope it doesn't seem like I'm ganging up on lee, I'm just giving my opinion, I've enjoyed a lot of lees post so good luck for the future

I've never been one for looking for the deep digs, I'd much prefer a couple of 3 or 4 footers but every season your gonna hit a deep spot and when you do and you know for a fact it isn't a problem because the dogs been their before and proven itself, hard dog or not it should stay or don't breed. No ifs or buts

Man o Kent that's why a lot of people like to see a dog/bitch being bred from with a good few seasons under their belt, that way if their worked regular enough they should of come across all sorts of different scenarios and if they shine throughout happy days, but again (and people may get bored of hearing this) it's all about honesty, honesty about the dogs performance and the honesty of the man who owns the dogs to give a truthful interpretation to all who wish to know

I've got a lurcher that retrieves in the opposite direction, but I don't call it retrieving , I call it fooking off with its catch!

Got to Agree their lukey them 2 hour dogs shouldn't be bred from, but I'll bet theirs plenty of people out their who's ground has never had holes deep/ sprawling or difficult enough for it to take 2 hours to reach the dog, yet because the dogs never failed in these earths is bred from. I suppose honesty is the key here and if the owner of such dogs was truthful he'd realise they weren't properly tested. I've heard that working terrier certificates were once issued and they turned out to be a bit of a farce, the best way to truly see the standard of your dogs is with people with no monetary gai

But isn't that the risk of selling a dog, courtesy can go right out the window. And before anyone starts on me I'm just playing devils advocate and getting peoples opinions
-
I've never met you fox dropper but your post come through as genuine and knowledgeable about both stalking and terriers, and I see your points on selling dogs, but if someone messaged you from this site asking for a pup would you give him one ( and no, I'm not asking for a pup but be careful how you answer or your inbox might get full very quick). I know how hard it can be to get decent stock, but I fell on my feet and got in with two lads who took me under their wing, shared dogs, permission and introduced me to other like minded people. Without these lads I would of had to of bought in, so I

Have you shook of your life threatening man flu yet? In all seriousness the ox dog was in his youth a specimen of a animal with the grit and determination that unfortunately lead to his demise as a working dog, it would be a shame to lose the blood line that he's kept for ages, but times change and he wanted something different from his lurchers

Ox is unfortunately like his owner, a great big homosexual.

Anyone Used The Barryvox Element?
timmy k replied to timmy k's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
I've actually already got a collar and box but was planning on upgrading soon. The pieps boxes have come right down in price but my mates got one of them so fancied something different. Would he sell the pulse on its own? -
As the title says, anyone??

Any Advice On What's Going On With My Terrier ?
timmy k replied to fox assasin's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
But you have to give him more time to negotiate the tubes or is it only my dogs that don't take a jack hammer with them. Again we're going off topic and I'm just trying to give the lad advise and perhaps leaving the dog a bit longer before reaching for the spade, but f**k it dig the dog as soon as it's made contact, I really couldn't give a shit -
Any Advice On What's Going On With My Terrier ?
timmy k replied to fox assasin's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
And this is why writing can be misconstrued, I knew what you ment and agree to a certain degree but just as you picked up on something you presumed I ment, I did the same. All being said I think you know what I'm getting at but putting it in writing is a different thing, so I'll try here and get back to the original post. If the dog in question is on the larger side and hits a bit in the tube which goes tighter with the fox just in front of it, maybe the fox feels safe enough to stay but knowing the dog can't push on enough to be much of a threat, but the dog (and again I don't know what style -
Any Advice On What's Going On With My Terrier ?
timmy k replied to fox assasin's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Most people don't have different sizes of terrier to use like picking a gun of a rack, and the one that's with you has to do the job. The lad who asked the original question to my knowledge only has one terrier also, so if you take the generals advice don't leave home without at least 4 different sized terriers or you'll be labelled a fool
