    Does anyone on here use welsh springers instead of english or cockers, and if so how do you rate them? Any positive info would be appreciated, as I've been thinking for a while about getting a spaniel to work alongside our lurcher bitch in the day and also a bit of shooting. Like the cockers but keep hearing that they can be a bit full on most of the time. Thanks

    What if say ye had a WHIPPET, and you thought the world of it, would you keep it in the house or kennel, given the FACT that it caught more than any of your 'well bred' and much thought about, as regarding feet etc, lurcher? kennel or house?

    Understand what you're saying, it's just that I personally feel alot easier when they're in the house are you talking about the security side of things,so the dogs don't get stolen?...........the simple fact is you get shite dogs in houses and kennels,and great dogs in houses and kennels True, and shite ones are just as often stolen as the good ones if they're always outside, and it's not nice having even a shite dog stolen well at least you know yours is safe in the hoose.....atb... True again, but if it was shit it wouldn't be in my house atb lol

    Not having a dig at whips or greys, I love em, and have seen and owned some that also ran over varying types of groundwithout a problem, just having a laugh with robwelsh at some of the absolute SHITE that gets written on here about em

    I suppose some dogs of any breeding will have feet which are not up to par, I haven't seen, or heard of too many collie bred types with bad feet though. Hope your next pup's a 'goodun'

    This pretty much sums it all up to me. There are loads of arguments for keeping them both inside and out but IMO they have no bearing on the ability of the dog. The kennelling vs house debate is purely down to practicality/logistics/cleanliness/number of dogs of each different household and what works for the owners Right with you there, and also the fact that if you live in an area that is fairly regularly patrolled by those of a wandering nature and 'scrappys', I think you'd be a bit uncomfortable with your dogs being kennelled full time

    Having kennels comes in handy, but I personally wouldn't keep em kennelled full time, far too many thieving nerks around, and I also believe you do get a better bond, and enjoy the company of a dog around the house anyway

    You could look for a pup with deerhound blood as well as collie, very good feet

    I think the reason there isn't many around is that if you've got a deer/grey bitch then you like a dog with a bit of height so aren't gonna want to put a 19" whippet over her. I'm sure they could make handy dogs. Not only that, there's also the fact that in the last 15-20 years alot of the younger guys have come along with the bull x, and in my opinion that's really when the whole mess regarding dogs being tried too young and ruined, sold, swapped or whatever started. I 'm sure that many of the older members of this site will know of and remember more than a few Deer/grey x whip/grey

    Said it before ,and I'll say it again, don't care what or how other people call it, fun, sport, testing their dogs, whatever, hunting in any form is exactly that, hunting. To me it's never been 'sport', as that implies straight away that you're doing it for fun, and if I wanted to see sport I'd go to the nearest boxing tournament. As to whether hares are easier to catch on the lamp, yes I agree that in some areas hares are more easily cought on the lamp than in daytime, but there are also plenty of places where you need a very good dog to catch em on the lamp.
