i prefered to quietly as i could enter the dog/bitch one at a time & let them do their job , charlie would slip out 9 times out of ten if you was quiet,, you would often see them spying through the rocks weighing the job up untill the terrier got near them , same as a rabbit sits just back from the entrance untill the ferret gets near ,every ones different some piles are quick bolts, some hours , you get to know the run of each one in time ,no one wants a dig in my estimation , some rock jobs the fox can bolt 100 yds away they are that big 2 or 3 guns often needed ,

same here ,i was trying mine out again last night ,my god its difficult turning the parralax up /down round & round then adjusting the t20 ,nightmare , i took my doubler off the t20 cos it was hitting the scope its better now but obviously not the range but plenty good enough for air rifle use , its going to take time to get the hang of this

i rarely used a collar in rock ,you can usually hear a dog deep in the piles if you cant hear it it ,its very deep , ive had some huge digs to stuck dogs makes you think why you do it sometimes for sure but its in your blood , we had a 3 day dig with some bradford lads who came over & got their dog stuck , you could have near enough put a house in the hole lol , got the terrier out though , well worth the hard graft for it , ( BELLA ) bitch

i heard tell, dont know if its true , one of the yorkshire hunts had a military general amongst its ranks & after several run ins with antis . a team of paras came up & followed the hounds all day ,there was no trouble i heard that day -

im finishing early theres not many rabbits around as there used to be ,im giveing them a bit of breathing space on my perms,,, maybe the odd walk out nothing serious ,unless i get some new land

i got some lads i know out of the village a days detecting on a big farm up yorkshire i ferret on , next time i saw them i asked if they dropped farmer a bottle of whisky off or thanked him they said no , next time they asked i said farmer says you cant go back on , 2 years later my lad told me they found a bracelet & got £18.000 for it !!!!!

The Fell types that were bred for rocks would have been useless at work,if they were that big.Around that time the biggest influence on Fells/Lakeys was the decline into breeding for the shows and the financial reward,they went from being leggy,wiry grafters,to heavy cobby show winners,on the whole. lol some of my best grafters was the ugliest terriers born . another thing my best hunting dogs on the screes /rocks was dogs ,when i watched their body language whilst hunting free ,i soon clicked when they was on a line then coupled them up , & the little bitches was allways the best b

a few years ago a keeper up crowden had a dog stuck , you may remember a big group of us went up to try a rescue , one fella wanted to start a dig at the last known mark , i wanted to wait a while to be quiet & have a good listen , anyhow we nearly had a big fallout over to dig or not to dig , i went around the area on my own listening down every crevice & gap in the rock , i marked the dog over 10 yds away i could here him whimpering so called the lads over they heard him too , dug and barred the rocks apart & got him out , a good do if we had dug to the last mark we would ha
