Ireland Moira Gamefair High Jump
boyo replied to Wetnoseman's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
used to compete regular in the early days at differant shows putting on the high jump and some did have bales built up other side and some didnt ,but deer fence comments i have seen them very high and tbh never had a dog go over them over and over the same day /night any dog landing from that height on hard summer ground on a semi regular basis is asking for feet ,tendon or muscle prob;lems .imo.is risking itself bigtime -
i remember being at a gamefair when they were handing the very first edition of the shooting news as it was then called out like confetti i read every bit before i got home and went straight down the paper shop on the monday to order it weekly very good paper /magazine for the lurcher terrier lot in them days and worth every penny and more of the cost.i subscribed to earth dog running dog for years and wrote articles in there but that to is not anywhere near the calibre or quality that it was years ago either.oh for the days of the early shooting news and edrd times ,mind you i could and did g

the show raised just under £1000 for the charity this will buy quite a bit of hay and other food badly needed in their cause. a big, big thank you to all that attended and to all those that sponsored the show in differant ways cheers once again .

i to have had them run straight towards the dog on odd occasions always wonder why they do this ,and amazed when it does . -
hypothetical question if a litter turn out ok and are catching regular and one owner pushes that little bit to far and pushes their dog untill it jacks but all the rest of litter are owned by more sensible owners and do not look like jacking ,why would you not breed of that bitch just because it was owned by a moron yet breed of another in the litter that might not be as good as the one thats jacked but is deemed ok to breed of .surely in this instance its purely down to the owner.

top post well said .

as i have said numerous times there is a massive differance between a a lurcher thats worked and a working lurcher but i repeat you me or anyone else will ever tell whether any kind of running dog works just by lookin or examining it. now ille tell you a little secret in all the years i have been judging not one owner has admitted that they do not work their dogs .
-
ideation i would love to know how you could tell which ones worked and which didnt just by looking at them.and that goes for any running dog not just whippets.dont know about anyone else but when i judge i dont have any pre conceived ideas about any dogs i just examine on the day and pick which i like on the day based on a number of differant things ,conformation ,feet ,mouth ,movement, presence, condition, and what might look very similar from outside the ring can look and feel completly differant from inside the ring when your running your hands and eyes over them and concentrating on what

in the seventies when the shows were first starting up it would be fair to say that most lurchers seen at a show were also worked i would say that the percentage worked today thats seen at shows is very small in my own opinion.WORKING LURCHER now lets narrow that down what one owner calls working their lurcher another ,person would laugh at .my own opinion is theres lurchers that work and then theres WORKING LURCHERS,same breed but totally differant animals in lifestyle and what they do.what i will say is the average lurcher today is looked after much better than the average lurcher was in the
