  1. Was just having a random thought today about maybe getting hold of an air pistol, just for some random garden plinking really but also maybe to shoot a couple of the roosting pigeons that we always come across when out lamping (we can get really close). We currently use a catty, but just thought it might be a bit of different fun. Looking for a relatively cheap pistol. So my questions are - any ideas on what gun i could get? and would an air pistol be at all suitable for shooting game - taking into account that i would obviously practice until i felt competent to hit game cleanly. Chee
  2. Your mate sounds like a f*cking moron. 'I get the money, thats all i care about' - says it all. He shouldn't even be allowed to keep ferrets, f*cking prick. I hope he reads all these posts. Jai.
  3. Can't see my landowners reporting me and no one else sees what i'm doing really. I'd be careful tho. I do believe it's illegal in the states but they have lots of pet ferrets. Does anyone know why its illegal there and when it became so? atb Jai.
  4. Wow just read that lot. . . . . MENTAL! Someone has WAY too much time on their hands . . .
  5. Firstly i met Trisha on here and he is now my ferreting partner - he certainly has more than a clue and his terrier is absolute gold dust. Also a Spaniel is meant to flush game and not actually catch it. Both breeds have their ups and downs for different jobs. For what Trisha does a terrier (well trained) is perfect. atb Jai.
  6. Trisha off here has a fantastic Manchester Terrier x that i'll try and get a pic up of later - best busher i've seen, she hunts like a hound and marks perfect everytime as well. On a days ferreting shes worth her weight in gold! Anyone else ever seen working manc terriers? Jai.
  7. I'll second whats said above and add - FERRETONE - great invention - it's a substance they go wild for. I put some on my fingers and let them lick it off they soon love your hands in a good way. Also very handy for collaring them up, injecting them etc atb Jai.
  8. that proves the ban is not taken seriously then does it not ,and that is the way it should be looked upon in my eyes . Possibly in many cases and yes thats great, although it should be taken seriously, totally and utterly ignored yes. . . . but still taken seriously. Anything that could result in loss of dogs, is serious in my eyes. But to be honest it's not a good thing having folk out with dogs who only got into it cos they saw it on the T.V and it makes them feel somehow 'hardcore' and 'wild' to hunt illegal game and dump it. I know thats a bit of a generalisation and i know wha
  9. Do it next season mate . . . not worth getting greedy now, if it looks good now imagine how good it will look come september. atb jai.
  10. It's always nice to see new folk keen on what we love . . . . but looking bout recently there seem to be A LOT of REAL idiots wandering about the countryside at night with lurchers . . . since the ban the number of people into running hare, fox and deer has suspiciously shot right up . . . . . . jai.
  11. Bit bored and thought i'd kick off (maybe) a topic which hopefully can't turn into an argument! So here's the question . . . does anyone on here run any 'exotic' or 'unusual' pure sight hounds or x's. Take 'exotic' and 'unusual' however you want . . . I know there are some beautiful and hardworking salukis and at least one borzoi (i think), but what else? (i'd love to see more pics of the borzoi also . . . ) oh . . . . and there's the malamute x's atb
  12. What i do these days (because i'm a bit lazy) is gut, skin and freeze all the ferreted rabbits for human consumption and then just gut and freeze (in bin bags) all of the lamped rabbits (i've got a big chest freezer mind). When its time to feed the ferrets i just take out one of the lamped rabbits and chop off a suitable piece (usually a quarter), thaw it out and hang it in the cage. I'd rather hang a smaller piece and have to change it more regularly than end up with sick ferrets. Chopping them when frozen with an axe is quick and no mess. I hang the pieces as i find this causes less mess and
  13. I wonder if the past 9 pages of handbag swinging was of any help to the lad who originally posted? As far as i am aware he asked about whippets? And a lot of people have just taken it as a chance to say how great their dogs (which aint whippets) are? There were some good posts at first and then it just degenerated into 'my ways the best way', 'your a moron', 'my dogs a world beater' etc So many folk on this site make themselves look like proper tits! atb Jai.
  14. LIke has been aid above but be careful hanging big bits of meat in with them when it starts to get warmer, they can get food poisoning to! Jai.
  15. I promised Trisha that i would do a bit of a write up of last night so here goes! I met Trisha and his dogs a month or so ago when i advertised for a ferreting partner on here. It turned out he lived 15 miles away and was as obsessed with catching rabbits as me, a good start! Since we met we've been out together a few times a week and a great friendship has started! Anyway, last night my girlfriend was down visiting from the Midlands so i'd promised to take her ut for a good nights lamping. We picked Trisha and donna up at about 10.30 and crossed the border to hunt some english rabbit
  16. Running pregnant/milky does doesnt appeal to me and killing does with kits in the nest and so wiping out next winters sport seems silly. atb Jai.
  17. Guy near me has one - i see him out walking it and it looks well put together but i'm not sure if he works it, i've always been fascinated!
  18. The first time your sat waiting, dig down and find the ferret is munching on a litter of kits in some areas we do, in others we stop as soon as we start hitting a few does in kit and in some we must carry on doing a bit right throughout as a pest control service where they do genuinely have a rabbit problem. atb jai. p.s - cant put a date on it as its related to length or day and weather/temp so varies year to year.
  19. When chased they will run anywhere, including straight into your legs breaking their neck. atb jai.
  20. In that case soon you will be lucky if you see any hares either . . .
  21. I'd be up for it. Would probably just have to be wee local things, like a few folk meeting up with a few ferrets at a place where there are a few decent sized sets. It would be pretty impossible to judge tho as rabbits all behave different underground so it wouldnt be fair. Could also go along the route of creating and stocking fake sets but that would be a bit dodgy. jai.
