  1. . . . . the rabbits made me do it . . . .
  2. Yer the Vulva swelling starts to reduce. Although i know what you mean about not jumping down peoples throats, the guy does have a bit of a point - at this time of year there is a constant rotation of the same half a dozen question about ferret breeding and kits. It's not even about using the search bar - often folk ask a question which has been discussed same day and is still on the first page! jmo Jai.
  3. He's right tho - i'm f*cking sick of reading post after post after post saying 'how do i tell if she is pregnant', 'how long do i leave the hob in with jill', 'why is hob raging her around', 'How long before my kits are born' or the classic 2 months of OH MY GOD I SAW A BABY RABBIT . . . .ANYONE ELSE SEEN A BABY RABBIT?????? over and over again. Maybe just put up a stickie saying 'USE THE F*CKING SEARCH BAR - THATS WHAT ITS THERE FOR!' atb Jai.
  4. Right - I'm in the South, near the border and am trying to find a pack or two to follow throughout this summer, can't figure out who my nearest is though! Also what are the regs with hunting mink??? CHeers for the help! Jai.
  5. Aye - straight from the time its had it jabs (season willing) you take the pup out on the lead and just let it watch and learn. . . . it's amazing how quick they pick up. And i NEVER reward them for marking or it can encourage false marking. Jai.
  6. Personal preferance i suppose, but ideally a dog that would do a bit of bushing and so drive rabs to ground or pin them in cover and also find holes. Once it has found a set i would expect it to do a little tour of the holes, have a sniff and give a good mark, preferably quietly rather than scrabbling down the hole if there is something at home. I would then want it to hang back while i was netting up and not get in the way or start sticking its nose down all of the holes. Once i was ready to enter the ferret i would want it to position itself above some of the suitable holes ready for any bol
  7. I'm looking for a pack to follow during the summer - i think there are two in the west of wales . . . . Jai.
  8. And get your self some bits of tube for them to run through - good practice and they get used to being picked up from holes. Don't be afraid of your ferret, be confident, firm but gentle with them and they will be come amazing companions and workers. Often i walk about the house with one riding in my hoodie front pocket, one riding in the hood and one sitting on my shoulder. . . . . . . . which gets some funny looks, but their great. Mind you my one jill gets a bit jealous of my girlfriend and gave her a nip on the face when she tried to kiss me! Jai.
  9. At least they have a decent home now. Yer if she stays swollen it aint been done yet, if she comes out of season pretty quick shes probs been mated and you cant tell until she starts to nest or looks fit to burst! Also does she have a marked neck? Are the hobs balls out? Jai.
  10. Quantify/Qualify what you mean by 'how much is involved' - thats a pretty open ended question. Basics - you need a big enough, dry, draft proof run with sleeping compartment, you need to get some ferrets (more than one best), which could be done in next month or so (kits coming soon). Then you need to handle them lots so they are tame and friendly. You need to give them regular water and food - either meat or dried food. I also flea drop mine. So thats the basics of keeping them - respect and care for them as you would any other animal. But once cage is set up they are cheap to feed (
  11. ps - Some ways to MAYBE get your ferret back. Put the box outside the hole with some shreded paper and a paunched rabbit or even better a cage trap with a paunched rabbit in, if your lucky you'll find your ferret in it next morn. Jai.
  12. I hope right now you are stood back outside that set waiting for your ferret. Just wish we could warn whoever is selling you the other one. But i guess at least you ask for advice now . . . . better late than never. Jai.
  13. Yes and 1000's of years ago people also thought the world was flat and they were idiots also.
  14. My question is - why are you breeding from two jills when you already know you will have too many kits? And instead of making a responsible decision and making sure you have homes for them etc etc your just going to kill what you dont need. Wow. . . . . . . Another person breeding for no reason. And as for putting human ethics onto ferrets, yes they are animals, but so are we, 'human' is just the name for our type of animal, just as ferret or dog are names for other types of animal, i reckon the all deserve equal respect. . . . and to be fair my ferrets have been more uuseful to me and bet
  15. Always trust your ferret mate - if it doesn't want to go down . . . NEVER push it, there is usually a good reason, in this case two rats that could kill it. How would you like it if you were standing by a dark hole where you KNEW there was something nasty, decided not to go in and then i kicked you down it? You'd be a bit pissed off aye? Jai.
  16. Or find a mate with some terriers and a smoker! atb Jai.
  17. Did you find him? Let us know soon as . . . Jai.
  18. She should be fine mate. Just make sure she has plenty of dry bedding and that the sleeping box is dry and draft proof. atb Jai.
  19. Yep - stupid dogs are all head down run fast - straight into a fence post. Smart dogs, run fast, head down and still manage to side step the posts etc. Or in your dogs case, turn the shoulder at the last second and hit it safely!! jai.
