    i wasnt calling you a clown at all i meant the lad who the dog ended up with and maybe i was a bit harsh but you shouldnt of gave the dog away to someone like that or made sure it was bomb proof around stock thats what angered me such a shame to see a nice dog like that get put down over something that could easily been avoided.     Don't you get it. There are certain groups in Pakistan and not all Pakistanis who will profit from the country being in chaos. The militant islamists who wish to spread terror, know that the worse off the local populace is then the more likely they are to be persuaded by radical doctrines. By blocking the efforts of aid agencies like world vision etc they worsen the situation for the ordinary people and take steps toward achieving their goals.     A good dog can run anywere, you would know this if you have ever had a good dog. Yes dick head i realize that. My point was - if i was running big open land for various quarry, then my choice of breed as an 'all rounder' would differ to if running a lot of small land or a different environment. I don't think it's possible to say an 'a x b with a small dash of c' is the best all rounder. A persons opinion of what in their eyes makes a good all rounder will differ from person to person, based upon personal experience with certain dogs and where, why and what on they run their dogs. So

    Get yourself a ferret, a ferret court/large hutch & a few nets, then get yourself to a rabbit warren so your new pet can get you some proper presents... A beautiful thing.

    Like others i use both. I do a squeak when i feed the little stinkers, and when i want their attention, as long as you reward them when they come to it, they soon get the idea. Banging a stick also works, because it stimulates their natural interest, and the final resort of jumping up and down like an idiot on top of the warren (in the old days). But like has been said, no amount of that will get the ferret out of a sunken pit, or out from behind a dead rabbit.     Alright, seen a few different types of running dogs in my travels. Most i've come across in discussion amongst dog men as well - such as the Azawak, Sloghi and Rampur. But two i have never heard mentioned but thought were pretty cool were the Chart Polski (Poland) and the i-Twina (Eastern and Southern Africa) - does anyone have any experience of these, knowledge or has indeed also seen them over seas?

    There is no such thing as 'best' in terms of application of a breed to a task. It's down to personal preference and the many many factors which affect the running - i.e landscape etc. Also it is ALWAYS down to the individual dogs which a person has seen.

    Hey mate - i'd love to know more about your Ovcharka - how long you have had it, where you got it from, how it handles etc etc etc - i really fell for them after spending time in that part of the world. Yours looks like the mountain type, the ones from the plains have shorter coats. PM me if you like.

    From the ones i've seen they can be black. Most of them are just kept for their fur, i've seen a couple worked - and they are mental, but if you tame them, good at their job. But yes it's not a ferret it's a Khonorik. My personal favourite however is the Kolonok - the Siberian weasel - like ferrets on crack.

    This is Pembrokeshire, we don't do frost! I don't mean we don't get out when it's cold, but we genuinely don't get that much frost! We had a bit last year, but those photo's are from before that. Here we seem to do frozen polar wastes now Nothing like ferreting in snow blizards!
