  1. Where to go for Wednesdays adventure?

  2. Busher, them pups are crackers matey, and i really like the look of smallys broken coated dog. How do the beagle / russels compare to the spaniel x terrier or spaniel x hound mix anyone know? And do you dinf the beagle x russels hunt off on a line or will they bush in closer as well? What about a 3/4 russel?
  3. You are 100% right and its the same with all animals. whatever they are and whatever you want of them, breeding anything less than best to best is just a daft waste if time. My ferrets are to a far higher standard than my dog haha.
  4. I think they mean more game than you would on foot in the same area. So if you are only getting 2 rabbits per field, you can look in a lot more fields over a night using the motor than on foot. etc.
  5. It's like anything else, there are a load of different ways it can be done, some great, some shit. And some folk who do it, are wankers and many are not. Just like anything. You couldn't do it here, you would get your truck stuck within a field or so. But on the big land, i would do it happily.
  6. Cracking mate! Whens she coming out with the team?
  7. Those dogs of yours (smally) and willows look spot on How do they act around holes etc?
  8. For those who are suggesting that a lurcher will do the job fine, i don't think, quite get it. Whilst our team of running dogs bush well to each other and find plenty of game etc, they just cannot compete with a dedicated cover dog. Some of the cover we face is big and tight. Also, if the runners have pushed in deep to get whats hidden within, whats going to run anything that pops out, and it would be difficult not to end up working the dog as a lurcher, which we don't need. We need a cover dog. Looks like spaniel/terrier or even better spaniel / terrier / beagle mix would be ideal.
  9. Springer/beagle crosses suit us,hunt hard all day and plenty of voice.breeding is everything as in all working dogs.a lot of shite out there. Sounds interesting, any pics? Does the spaniel cut down on the beagle running too far ahead? Like i said - im surprised there are not folk out there with good tested lines of bushers, rather than pure breeds or first x's. Well the spaniel does cut down on them running on but if they are any good they will hunt on to a certain extent.I have a springer here that would be no good to a shooting man but i have her steady and obedient and she wi
  10. You pretty much described my dog there skycat, down to a T. Casso - I do however sometimes wonder if it has to do with the fact that his first dog the he has worked with in his life is a very good, very dominant older bitch, who is also a bit of a loner, that doesnt really do strangers, affection etc, and does her own thing, only listening to Jb.
  11. Nice looking dog matey, but it's just not a spaniel for me. If i was to get a spaniel, i would end up with a springer and before i knew it i would be beating / picking up and thinking about bloody field trials hahaha. Not for me.
  12. Trust me, i'd get more stick over the sprocker than i would the bloody springer haha. And feck bloody pointers I agree about the lurcher thing, and we currently use a whippet for the job of knocking stuff out to the other runners, but its not quite ideal. Even a well bred lurcher, would still struggle in some of the spots we go, and besides, dogs for jobs and all that
  13. A very good, and i think accurate post. I sent you a p.m mate
  14. The one - he has been around dogs quite a lot. Obviously way more time spent just 1:1 with me, but from a young age he has been out with JB's two lurchers, and another friends whippet and lurcher, and various other mutts. He kennels fine with other dogs, and spends time in the house and yard fine with them. He will hunt well in a pack with JB's two, and with the other dogs he sees regular, but all others are treated like he just prefers to get on with it a lone and doesnt need their interferance. I do have an old and grumpy terrier who would give him stick, but i never let them get into it, an
  15. I'm glad you enjoyed yourself matey, it was really good to meet you, you are a really sound no nonsense bloke and i feel we will share some good hunts in the years to come We can def do saturday! Could do wed as well if you were free? (Just give me a text). BY the way i've been raving about your dogs, especially skye for a few days. I really like that bitch, considering she hadnt been ferreting some some time, she was spot on. Would be keen on looking at her pups if you ever bred her. Hope all is well. Jai.
  16. That's my thoughts millet, but i dont want a pure spaniel or anything spaniel looking. Personal issues lol (father that is a spaniel man).

  18. I'm not sure where i stand on spaniel x's, so want to get a look at some. Grew up round spaniels, and some very top trial dogs, so the idea of them barking and chasing game doesnt sit well (its a mental block), so i would rather it didnt look like a spaniel haha. Edited to add - i also like the idea of something with a bit more bulk than a straight terrier, to handle knocks from any bigger stuff.
  19. Aye, he has spent time around a fair few dogs, but as it goes, its usually the same couple over and again. He fecking loves the dogs he likes, and in a non-hunting situation is happy to mess about with different dogs. But he has always been a very independant dog, happy in his own company, since a pup. He loves being near me, wont let me go to toilet without him, until out in the field, then he is happy to hunt away all day at a distance. Having said that he fecks off into his own space, if i make the, somethings happening noise, then he is there like a shot, but not so quick if its the co
  20. I never even considered being able to 'train' a terrier not to go to ground if so inclined? Where i am you cannot walk anywhere without falling down a hole, and most are not diggable for various reasons. But the thing is i would like the dog to be able to work fox above ground, and would have thought that would have led it to being more inclined to enter below?
  21. I'd really like to see a terrier / spaniel x work in the flesh if anyone is able to help? Plenty can vouch for me.
  22. It's one of them things i guess. I'm usually fecking cursing him all day for doing it, until he puts something up and catches it we would have never know about unless he had ranged. He gets better if you work him hard and knacker him. i like my black dog to work close when working a wood hes is a read plessure.... he works about 10/15 foot in frount till he hit game an you can see the chage in him but he is still calm and its upm at his feet and then its on lol....some dogs lead from the frount and some follow other dogs .... See mine is more like a hound. I can keep him close to me
  23. Cheers guys And Jamie - that's the future there mate.
  24. What a crok of shite Really? omething Something tells me the man doesn't work his dogs that hard. ya think...........i love it when greyhound and whippet lovers tell us all that their dogs can handle it. Comical at best. Actually I love it when any man loves any breed enough to actually sit on here and tell us all how they are great at everything. Its f****n awesome. Dont matter what anybody says, size, breed, type, land, weather, all that shit matters. Talent at a certain game matters...........try and heart go a long long way but if ya suck, ya suck..........dont matter
