By spending time beating, helping feeding and generally being a really tidy lad. Because every keeper I know. . . . knows plenty of folk keen to do a bit of hunting, and the chance of them giving it to someone just knocking the door. . . . is pretty much nil! -
f**k all young here. . . . . grim as feck! Hope the permo we have in other parts of the country is looking better, will have to go look this next few weeks.

You sound a lot like the folk at the RSPB mate. Making out all keepers have no interest in the natural world, and no understanding of balance.. . . and that all keepers would shoot any BOP on sight. It's just not true. Unless your Lab......... Labs not a keeper., . . . . he's just a pheasant farmer.

I'd debate that dog even having running blood in it!
-
It's funny how many folk with rescued dogs, will tell you with absolute certainty what the breeding is, and won't take any disagreement at all!

If thats a first x beddy / whip. . . . . i'm the queen.

Fujis don, was bred of a collie that worked stock, as far as i'm aware. There are a vast range of collie types out there. My pick would be either one of our leggy hill types, tough as old boots, or one of the working cattle dogs we get, a dog that can bully cattle about from the front end, should have the balls to deal with most other stuff. And most decent farm collies I have seen about here, are not shy in dealing with vermin around the farm. With regard to your mates collie, how do you know it wasnt from working lines a few gens back?

Do you know that the 'countryside' as we see it isn't a natural environment? It's the way it is because of centuries of human management, we've been preserving it as it is for a very long time.. ..and I suspect many members on here have been out persecuting the animals that live there many a time, I know I have have.. You could almost say they've been hunted... Yes we have to manage it because we have already f****d it up, how is that or hunting relevant to persecuting endangered species? What would you suggest we do, retreat to the caves, let the forests retake all the farmland and have th

Yes mate, moved some into the garage. And they are def working, the rats have been emptying them and i've been finding very sleepy looking rats about the place and killed a few. The hound has dug a few nests out and marked a few adults that we've killed! She found them in the quad. unusual to find rats that have eaten poison, once they start to feel the effects they usually find somewhere dark and quiet to go and die, Well the one died very 'un-quietly'. . . . my old man spotted it lying in the chicken run, looking stoned. And belted the shit out of it with a bit of 2x4. Coupl

and thats shite to hear mate........is it keepered full time??? please dont take this the wrong way but thats a lot to lose!!........... Unfortunately the only way to solve the problem is to break the law. There simply isnt another way around it.

Good t have you back mate

I know of a small shoot that sticks down 3500 poults and around 1000 are taken by bops. That is enough to bankrupt a place and close the shoot, in which term the ground and habitat is no longer managed, and it's not just the shooting that suffers.

Usually all summer we eat from the 'land', in that we have a very extensive veg garden, keep chickens, had quail, pigs etc and can trade for lamb, beef etc. Also, obviously, I hunt, fish and gather wild food. Also made wine, cider, etc. However, come winter, the options for fresh veg etc are very limited so we do buy in food. But i would happily put money on the fact that I could probably live for at least six months of the year without needing to buy a single food item from a shop. Could probably push to 12 months is needed, but some of it would be a bit dull lol.
