Whats a cub to a bullx the right dog at the right age will eat a fox they dont need cubs.same goes for terriers.Vermin control yes to bring a dog on or sport no.Plenty of dogs will fly into cubs only to throw the towel in when it comes to an adult that bites back hard. No ime not perfect nell but ive had enough experiance to know cubs dont make a foxing dog.

I would get out there double quick I wouldnt want those foxes to grow to aggressive or fast for any second rate dogs LOL

If its mainly ratting with an occasional dig there is no need for a well bred terrier from tested lines a reasonably bred terrier will take it all in its stride. Not so good when it comes to posing around the beer tent or showring though always better if you can mouth off how well bred your terrier is etc etc.

Dont give a shit about tennis,a game for the toffs.Every time I have seen him interviewed he seems to be picking a spot or a scab off his face.He is a grand ambassador for Scotland. :11:

If it is a decent well bred Russel then breed it with another well bred working Russel,if you cant find another decent Russel then try another working terrier. If it isnt a good worker then dont breed atall.

Nice strong head and neck.

patterdale pups for sale
Kane replied to merle the rabbit catcher's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Well if you have a good working line or type of terrier it would be to your benefit to keep that line/type of terrier working. Most would say the way to do it is to keep the breeding as close as possable. But some times an outcross is desirable and if a terrier of another breed is showing the desirable traits you want and others arent why not go for that outcross.the 1st generation of pups should be good having hybrid vigour as an added plus, and then you can get on breeding closer to your original line. Of course in a perfect world no breeing would be carried out except by dogs that are proven -
and hem that dont Hold up lads,I wouldnt be so quick to jump to any conclusions just based on a few words typed on a key board. Its intresting to hear different views and methods of entering and these forums can give you a break from the monotony of either work or the hot weather. But thats about it unless you have actualy dug with a few of the lads on here on more than a few occasions it would be difficult if not impossable to tell the wheat from the chaff.JMO. There is a whole series of books out there at one time heralded as the bees knees, now as the trueth has slowly got out mo

you were sussed out as a prick by everyone previously and well some things never change i guess :11: and i have no need to engraciate myself with anyone ........ i stand by myself and have no need or want for other peoples favour....... lthe people who know me either think i am a c**t or they like me matters not to me you on the other hand are highly regarded by all and sundry so much so you had to change your name :11: now then shall we leave it there please yis fellman You just got up mate been out lamping again

KANE......are you saying that you wouldn't CONSIDER entering a dog as old as two just intrested JOEB The Border bitch I was given was over 3 years old she had done nothing when I got her,I dont rush a pup into anything but I would prefer a pup to have had some experiance(posotive experiance)before proper entering begins. If I was offered a 3 or 4 year old dog that had done nothing,as long as the breeding was right I would give it a go.But I would rather of had it from a pup.JMo i would hold back the dog till i and i alone think its is ready no matter how long it mabe or

If it is its only a coincidence, sorry if I have bought any trouble to that mans door through my ,key board antics. Unless I am a legend and I dont know it. :11: :11: Failing that read fellmans last post that should give you more of an idea LOL LOL

No the minerals were there...."too hard"thats for another thread .I supose she wasnt street wise(for lack of a better expression). You know I was "Postie" on another site Fellman, most if not all people do,stop trying to engraciate yourself.15 years of expecting young terriers to work like seasoned dogs....and people are having a pop at my attitude.....I might be a **** but I have enough sense to take care and be patient with a young terrier. You know it makes sense

Well I suppose thats what happens when you get info 2nd hand from those that werent there . Like I said the bitch was held back to long if she had been entered earlier I believe she would of learnt lessons that would of lenghened her career. Have you found any photoshoped pics yet? You only have to produce one that I have altered and I will be gone. As for the deer all old pics from the last season bfore the change in law taken legaly on permission. As you like them so much heres a few of these thrown in.

, none that have been in the photoshop first lolol..... :11: :11: :11: :11: and please no summertime work either, i dont like seeing summer hunting really, like those pics of deer you often put up.... :11: Poor ..poor soul so dissapointing when some one doesnt follow blindly waiting and swooning at every word of the great author.......find one picture just one that I have altered with photoshop or what ever and I will never post on this or any other forum...but remember a picture I have altered. Sorry no summer pics of dogs being dug to my last dig was a few months ago now..... W

Personaly I wouldnt enter a terrier into an earth at this time of year, birds coming or not, this time of year other methods are probably prefferable, the earths are just to dry and lacking in air I imagine they would almost suck the oxygen out of the terrier, not worth the risk not in June anyway.JMO of course. This doesnt take away anything from your brave dog and I am sorry the terrier was lost.

Right then generaly I agree with what everyone has to say but its when you get down to the specifics thats when the dissagreement comes. Never been a dog spoiled by being held back, you will never miss the boat. Dogs are so varied even within the same bloodlines never mind breeds,so how can anyone be so definitive? . You talk like some kind of legend mate and put down everything what everyone says. Opinions are :11: :11: A terriers mental maturity is the key IMHO... Legend I like that lol ....

I had a Border terrier bitch I was given her at just over 3 years old she had done or seen nothing, she entered easily and naturaly but she showed no signs of discretion or quarry sense of any time if this bitch had been entered earlier ,I believe she would of learnt a few valuable lessons and had a longer career JMO of course. In your original post you didnt state pup.

it is only what it say's on the tin, TALK but i do have to agree with socks and a few others, also supervision work also means an older terrier works the earth and when dug to, show the young terrier the quarry behind a fork/shovel and let him bay at it for a while, lets the younger inexperiance dog know what he's face'ing, goes along way Personaly I would only use the above method as a last resort,I pick easy earths and would rather the terrier found the quarry himself(bump into it in the simplest of places) and learnt for himself things arent going to be all easy, but (and this is quite

OK so thats between 14 months old and 2 year. So what age where you starting your young stock before this for 10-15 years? well i was starting them at the same time but once they went i wasnt holding them back as much as i am going to in the future i "think" maybe i was doing too much too soon .........ill give it a go anyway see what the outcome is.......never too late to learn maybe it wont work in the way i am thinking but ill give it a go Its not the hoding back that needs to change then but your whole method of entering? I thought it was common practice that slowly but s

Talk is cheap lol,I like the easy to enter eager to start type of terrier. In my experiance a lot harder to spoil than the late starting slow to mature type. Its up to the owner to make sure a young dog isnt pushed to hard to soon.

The drama and intrigue of the terrier showing world. :11:

Big statement that, without knowing and working every strain type or bloodline, not many would be arrogant enough to make it.JMO Socks- I respect your decision mate but will it leave you wondering whether or not you have missed a season of work from the dog .I in no way endorse early entering but I do like to think I know when to enter a pup and wouldnt like to think it hinged on any given time span .When a pup is fighting for the hell of it at exercise then its time it saw some work to channel the aggression away from its kennel mates.A satisfied terrier walks with the others .Each to t
-
I hold back but not totaly.I expect a well bred terrier to enter early he will be worked very lightly and sensibly easy earths shallow easy dug places where a bolt can also be expected.Holding back dogs to long can be as dangerous as early entering either causing them to become over eager or to go stale.JMO

Very nive looking bitch, what do you reckon her breeding is? Skull I would guess at squirrel.
