    FAC Variation has finally arrived...Brilliant!! Only problem is they forgot to put any ammo allowancs on it. Litteraly no ammo on the ticket. F*cking rubbish.

    I recentley got my ticket opened and I have only had an FAC for about 9 months, on my ticket I have a .22 and 22-250 and a .17hmr, but like your mate at present I only have a .22 although the 22.250 is paid for waiting in the shop for my license to come back from the variation. My FEO opened my ticket because I have a lot of permission and I kept adding new land, (I have about 7 farms with permission all in about 3000 hectares and a couple of large country houses with lots of land too) for me it was more to do with land than the the guns.     Im looking at a new semi-auto too as like you say my Escort was rubbish!! I dont know about the Webley but I'm looking at the Beretta E100 it works on recoil not gas take off. Beretta own Benelli who specialise in the recoil reload type, only they are all well over a grand! The recoil system means the action doesnt get filled up with sh*te and makes it easier to clean and its suppossed to be really reliable.     Sorry Matt, I dont want to contradict you, but if its welded on and you heat the barrel it will make it even harder to unscrew as you will be heating the male thread and what you want to do is heat the femal thread.     I find it much easier to shoot a heavy barreled rifle well of a bipod or rest. But if i need to take a 'freehand' shot ie one without any rest then a heavy gun is much harder to keep on the mark. ATB Jonno

    I shouldn’t be so quick to worry and complain! Had a really useful meeting with the FEO this morning. He gave me the okay on my variation straight away before he even sat down. After we had a chat about a couple of driven shoots locally, I gave him a letter about some new permissions I have been given he turned round and said ‘well I think we should just open you ticket instead’ He then said he had some people who had asked him to do some rabbit control and was too busy so he would put me in touch with them.     I don't think I would be putting any rounds through it myself, if its proper rammed on I would guess it may well be cross threaded in which case it won't be bang in line with the barrel, also the barrel will heat up and expand faster than the mod so it will make it harder to shift. I agree with the previous poster stick a shed load of WD40 in it and try a oil filter wrench. If that I think I would probably take it to the gunsmith yes it might cost you a couple of quid but it will be much cheaper than knackering the rifle or mod. ATB Jonno

    I have just been through this dilema myself!     You seem to have a much more sensible system in Northern Ireland with all guns covered on one licence rather than having one for shotguns and one for rifles. I have always thought they have made the process so complicated on possible in order to try and deteer as many people from applying as possible. ATB Jonno

    The fees must be set by the government as we all pay exactely the same rate wherever you are in the country, even though the level of service experienced can differ dramatically!

    Sorry chaps but this is not what I have been told, nor is it what I have done. I was told by Kent Police and by the Fire Arms Dealer that if I dispose of a rifle, when I send in my licence I can apply for a rifle of a different calibre on a one for one basis and that there is no fee payable for doing so. This is what I have done and the police are happy with this. My queries is that the FEO stated he Must come out and see me for a one for one variation and to be frank I find this odd, I have slots for three rifles at present two .22LR rifles and a 22.250 all I have asked for permission

    Hi All, Quick question, I sold one of my .22LR rifles and I put in a one for one variation to a .17HMR. Long and short of it I heard from the FEO today (5 weeks after sending off my licence!) he say that for a variation he MUST come out to see me. This is not the same way my friends (different FEO) have been treated. Is it true that for a one-for-one the FEO must visit? Sounds like bull to me. Your advice and experience please! ATB Jonno

    just had a look on the sportsmanguncentre website they are doing combo deals on the CZ range; gun, scope, mounts, moderator and gun slip all in for around the £400 mark depending on which rifle type you want. The scope is not that brilliant but its a bit of a bargain! I am personally still going for a browning I think but it might make your mind up! ATB Jonno

    You could have a look at a browning t-bolt interesting action, floated barrel in a glass bedded stock. My local gun shop has them in composite stock brand new for £410 so as cheap if not cheaper than a CZ and its a Browning so you get a good warranty and back up. I'm in the market for a .17hmr myself and I am really thinking about the browning, plus I had a feel of it in the shop and preffered it to my .22LR cz453.

    The Ruger 10/22 I have is one of the 'Delux' ones witha floated barrel, its probably not 100% as accurate as my old cz but theres so little in it you wouldnt notice, plus for bunny bashing its more than good enough, and you can get loads of part if you want anything and they are cheap as chips. I would also recomend buying second hand for a rimmy, there is not a great deal of point in buying brand new as they dont wear out the barrels etc like a centre fire.     I know this will be contentious but I would go for a Ruger 10/22 especially if your going lamping for rabits. I bought a CZ 453 with a set trigger and swapped it for a 10/22 its a brilliant bit of kit. ATB Jonno

    A mate of mine has a tikka which I think is the same as yours, his is stainless steel? Anyway he can't get it to group properly consistentley either. We spent ages zeroing it and then took it out foxing and its all over the shop, tried re-zeoring and the zeros miles out again. He really looks after it and keeps it in a proper rigid rifle box so it doesnt get knocked about. I think it down to the scope on his, he has a Hawke scope, and personally I think that Hawkes are a load of old rubbish! Have you tried a different scope on yours?
