  1. Crap, trendy must have calibre, .22rf will be around long after the .17hmr has gone the way of the .17 mach 2, the new .17wmr round will, I expect sound the death nell for the hmr, and there will be an abundance of them on guntrader ect, ahh like there is already.
  2. Gamo maxima .177 for sale, lovely condition, had a lube tune and shoots at a nice smooth 11.6 ftlbs, nice wood, it is a very accurate rifle, the squirrel in the photo was a tricky 30 yard head shot, and has taken woodies @40 yards, it has had about 600-700 pellets through it from new, comes with a choice of a brand new JSR red/green dot sight (pictured) or a 3-9x40 AGS, or a 4x40ao Nikko sterling, all with quality mounts, a nearly full tin of Air arms field pellets included, the best springer Gamo make with a two stage trigger also, better made than a BSA lightning in my opinion, bargain at £1
  3. Speak to Rake aboot mate he owns vast areas of land round your way, I am sure he will be only too happy to let you on pal but remember he is a Laird, so all due respect will be expected.
  4. Yep it was, but it makes it even better when you get one under tough conditions, good luck at Foremark mate, I will be thrashing the water to a foam there at some point this season, and a few others as well, maybe Carsington will get a go as well, tight lines on wednesday, oh and the trout was delicious
  5. Have put the redtail down for an early moult, so its trout fishing and deerstalking taking my attention now, get yourself some fly tackle Pointer, promise you wont regret it
  6. So yesterday (sunday) saw me stood in the rain at my local reservoir Ladybower, to try for a trout, it was pretty miserable, the rain kept getting heavy in between drizzle, on went the sinking line and an orange waggle tail lure, which is always a good starting fly here early season, the fish either favouring orange or red generally, filled with anticipation I made my first few casts of the season, casting in a fan shape, gradually casting further out, anyway after a good few casts, and searching at different depths, it was pretty obvious that orange was not on the menu today, so on goes a re
  7. Well first fish (trout) of the season on sunday, a nice silver overwintered rainbow about 2.1/2 lbs put up a real scrap as well, did not get a photo as it was chucking it down, and my hands were so cold I dont think I would have been able to work my phone, but I will be dining on trout poached in white wine butter and garlic this evening
  8. The thing with fly fishing Pointer is that you do not need heaps of tackle, just a rod a couple of different lines, a selection of flies, a net and a few bits and bobs and you are away, you are constantly doing something, ie casting, or tying on a new fly, you are constantly learning, no two fishing days are the same, and of course you have the bonus of some lovely food if you are lucky, try it mate I guarantee you will be hooked,(excuse the pun) it is very addictive.
  9. Ahh yes I remember those days, not a care in the world, out from dawn till dusk and sometimes considerably longer, we used to walk miles with the airguns, and nobody cared then, so long as we did no harm, well Martin I wish you well with your fishing, it is the perfect pastime for the falconer during the moult, the simple pleasure of the water and nature for company, to quote another of my favourite sporting authors the late great "BB" aka Denys Watkins pichford, "let us be boys once more".
  10. Well I have just stocked up on flies lol, and will be checking everything over, tonight, as it is opening day on many of our reservoirs very soon, looking forward to a nice pan fried trout
  11. 3 points my arse, plenty get a ticket with d+d convictions ect, no this is a self important feo, sort him out quickly, through the proper channels.
  12. Without a doubt mate, if the anticipation of a trout gulping my fly from the surface was not there I would not fish, or sit in a high seat(often frozen) in anticipation of a Muntjac stepping out, I would not stalk, but I think falconry, above all our pursuits, has the potential for more to go wrong than any other, but when it goes right, wow what a feeling
  13. Quite agree with Seekers explanation, and I must confess to not understanding your diagram, as it suggests the bullet will ricochet at around 225 yards, expedited by some mysterious force, it is quite simple, if you dont have a good safe backstop behind whatever you are shooting at, DO NOT PULL THE TRIGGER.
  14. This is a case of a bullying feo, flexing his imaginary muscles, he is probably anti shooting/firearms, I would advise your mate to speak to his shooting org, and also to speak to the firearms licensing manager in his area, and raise his concerns with him/her, as this clearly demonstrates a lack of professionalism, and courtesy, 3 points is bugger all, I would like to take a bet that 30-40% of the firearms team in his area have points for speeding ect.
  15. It is good that these lice have a long stretch ahead, but we have got to pay for them to live in relative luxury, and they will no doubt be hero worshipped by mussy scum in jail, as said earlier, they should have been bled out like pigs on the pavement.
  16. Indeed, and I suppose that is the thing our anti hunting friends will never understand, there is far more to hunting than pulling the trigger, or the days catch, it is being out there, seeing the funny, the awe inspiring, and sometimes the downright odd, that sets us apart from the boring bland masses, slightly out of place with time we may be, but I would not change it for the world
  17. Abbey used to do a wax back in the 80s that we used to put on the air rifles, but all drew the conclusion that it was more bother than it was worth, as said carry a bin bag or similar
  18. The bit that never fails to have me in stiches is Martin's description of the German Harris hawkers birds, landing on the pile of entrails, after they had just gutted a load of Rabbits, and swallowing them down before said Krauts could get to them
  19. Thats a new one on me too, breaking in a shotgun, its a quality gun as said not some Turkish shi*e, get shooting it and stop worrying.
  20. I will add to that, I have read it many times and would not part with it, and I fly a redtail, even though the book is Harris based, it is still very relevant to many types of hawk
  21. Keep the damn things and get some reloading tackle, you wont regret it.
  22. Glad you got her back mate, good call call on the tag mate, if you cant afford new, you see some good secondhand sets on the IFF, even if you just buy a decent tag, someone can find your bird with their receiver.
  23. I dont know of any shops,(others may) but a first class online falconry retailer is A.clarke falconry supplies, superb quality and reasonable prices, also Altawash supplies are good and very cheap for certain things.
