  1. Hi, I am trying to establish if my shotguns are suitable for use with High Performance steel shot. My shotguns are a Beretta Silver Pigeon 1 12g 28" Game and a Beretta A400 12g 30" Xplor Light, both guns are less than 6 months old. I have looked in the manuals and whilst the manual for the A400 suggests it probably is OK there is no relevant information in the Silver Pigeon Manual. My dealer is not 100% sure either. The cartridges I would like to use are Gamebore Steel Shot Mammoth 3" Hevi-Load, shot size 3, 36gms 76mm long. I have attached photos of the markings on the barre
  2. I will be trying some 24gms at the weekend so I will see then how it performs.
  3. Just noticed a big yellow sticker on the outside of the case that says to fire 32gm carts with plastic wads for the first 50 shots. Unfortunatley its to late as I have now fired 2 boxes of 28 gm carts with fibre wads. It cycled OK today so only time will tell how it performs.
  4. Hi, Just bought a new Beretta A400 Xplor Light. My dealer advised me to break it in using 36 gms cartridges. I was going to use it on clays for the first time and the location I use has a maximum load of 28 gms cartridges. I have some 32 gms cartridges, but 36 gms cartridges are not exactly an everday size. Is my dealer just being cautious? What would you advise? Can I get away with 32gm or even 28gm? Thanks for your guidance. Chris
  5. On balance I decided it was best to go for the A400 xplor light with the kick off fitted as my wife was commenting how a normal O/U 12g was hurting her shoulder. Gun ordered today so we should be able to try it out on some clays at the weekend. Thanks for the guidance and replies. Chris
  6. Hi, I am looking to get a new Beretta A400 Explorer Light. It will be used by me for rough shooting but also occasionally by my wife and daughter for clays. Recoil has never bothered me, but I am unsure if I should be getting the kick off system fitted to benefit the handling by the ladies. I am concerned it will feel strange having the stock moving when its fired and maybe afect my shooting. Has anybody used it? What do you think, good or bad idea? Thanks. Chris
  7. To be honest I don't know. There seems to be plenty of information on the net about them particularly in the USA where the 20g version is still sold. Chris
  8. 12 Gauge 3 Shot Semi-Auto. Reasonable Condition. Shoots well. Cycles perfectly. Still used on pigeons and rabbits. Face to Face. Shotgun Certificate holders only please. £120 ono. Advertised for a friend so will pass on contact details.
  9. All greased up now Thanks for the guidance. Chris
  10. Hi, Thanks for the guidance. It seems my foresight was correct and I need to use a bit of something. Historically I have not found ordinary oil or greases very effective over the long term particularly if the items are not dissambled regularly and relubed. This is where my 2 favourites copper slip and thread guard come in. Unless advised otherwise I will probably use thread guard. Its a molybdenum based grease that is pretty much guaranteed to prevent items seizing up. I know I have use it for used on the brake components on my boat trailer that get dipped into salt water regularly
  11. Hi, Recently acquired a new shotgun which I haven't even used yet. Being an engineer it has occurred to me that the chokes may get seized into the barrel over time. Trying to avoid the possibility of the problem I thought of using copper slip or thread guard on the threads as I screwed them in. Am I being a bit pedantic here. Do chokes get seized in? Is it a good idea to use an anti seize compound? Thanks Chris
  12. I have tried a silver pigeon 3 at a clay shoot and eventually managed to hit the clays. It seemed to be OK. They haven't got access to a browning so I will never be able to try one out. I was out on Saturday with a mates old Franchi hunter semi auto. It seems ok as well and light to carry about. My mates are advising me to go with a 28" as its easier to swing quickly and a tad lighter as well. All my mates have berrettas so it seems everything is pointing towards a berretta.
