  1. Yep your Bushnell will be fine to get you going mate, there are bucket loads of .243 rifles around for sale, and a bargain will appear, stick to Howa/Weatherby Tikka, Remington, Cz, along those lines and you wont go far wrong, and as for reloading advice, when the time comes ask away
  2. Nikon prostaff 3-9x50 mate the best value scope in the country, my pal has a S&B on his rifle I have a prostaff on mine, and we really do struggle to see the difference even at night, around £160.00, and as you know your cameras, you will be aware of the quality of Nikon lenses.
  3. The best call you can make is with your hand, watch a Warrener video or two, he knows how to call them, there are lots of commercial fox calls that work, Primos raspy coaxer, is a good one that you blow, the Foxpro is a superb electronic call with a remote control, but quite expensive, a cheap but very good call with remote is the Johnny Stewart attractor call, I have shot dozens of foxes with mine, but practice sucking on your palm, as well mate, fish is a good bait, as is cat food ect, tell you what dude pm me your phone number and we will have a chat, it is easier to dispense advice like t
  4. You cant go wrong with a Howa boys, I got a lovely laminate stock for my Weatherby from Boyds in the states, made it super accurate, and looks the dogs reproductive organs
  5. Ok mate, will look out for them, always worth buying a box to see if the semi auto likes them.
  6. Good plan, if you aim to do some vermin/game shooting in the future, you really must get out into the field with an experienced shot, as that kind of hands on experience will count far more towards you being allowed vermin, and expanding ammunition on your license than a hundred years of target shooting, a letter stating you are competent, in the eyes of the man taking you out, will go a very long way when the time comes believe me and what about keeping in with your chicken farmer mate, perhaps gain permission from him, take your air gun and blat some rats, and maybe take a friend along to s
  7. To be fair Millet scopes are pretty good too, but I would go with the Zeiss out of the two, also take a look at the Nikon side focus Monarch range, superb glass and build quality, every bit as good as Zeiss, and other good Germanic makes.
  8. Not tried them, but will give them a go if I see any, are they meant to have any special qualities above their normal offering?
  9. Howa/Weatherby vanguard, (same rifle) save up a bit, you will have plenty of time while you wait for variation, lol, mine will shoot a ragged one hole group @100 yards with my reloads, and damn near half inch with factory stuff, the engineering is superb, put some decent glass on it and it will fill the pot with the best of them, a good used model will be fine mate just make sure the barrel is good, dont start worrying about burning your barrel out, you will never wear it out stalking and foxing pal, trust me, .243 is a brilliant calibre mate, enjoy
  10. Why dont you apply for a .22 rimmy to use at the club for now? Cheap to buy and run, then when you get some land, you can apply for vermin with it, you will have gained some experience, and have a foot on the ladder in the fac world
  11. Well to be a little pedantic, the minimum calibre for large deer is .240, Holland and Holland used to (probably still do to order) a .240 h&h so it was decided this would be the minimum calibre, as it was at the time quite a popular calibre with gentelmen stalkers visiting the highlands, to the op, dont limit yourself, you have ticked all the boxes for a .243 or .25-06 no problem, you can use them on anything from fox to red stag, dont mention the deer species, you have deer and authority to take them, no need for dsc, get your application in and enjoy mate.
  12. Apply to the estate office mate, he is a Laird after all, just google Laird Rake, Glencock estate, highland ring, you may have to speak to his factors as I do, but they are nice chaps, and will put you right, and the shemale he has in the office is especially friendly
  13. every calibre has potential to do harm in the wrong hands regardless of size and power, if you require a 22cf for fox then i doubt weather mr fox would care if it was a 222 or 22.250 if you put in for a calibre specific variation then that is what you will get, if its a new application they will decide on the maximum calibre the land is permitted for, if that's 223 then why carn`t the applicant buy a 222 instead or any other 22cf for that matter. He could buy a .222 but not a .22-250 or .220 swift.
  14. the ticket will be issued on the ground you applied for it with and the calibre it was passed with, so anything named on your ticket will be cleared for the ground you applied with and 22 rimfire will be the round cleared for any approved land as its the minimum calibre in order to require an fac in the first place, 22 rimfire is 22 rimfire, 22cf is 22cf calibre specific is a choice of yours, if 243 is granted than a 243 can be purchased along with ammo of various weights and power, Interesting that you mention .22cf, in my area at least, ground is not passed generically for .22cf, as an
  15. All jolly good chaps, but dont get caught out using your .22 wmr on ground passed for .22 lr, if you dont have an open ticket, I will guarantee somebody will come unstuck with this if something happens
  16. Aint that the truth, what a ridiculous state of affairs, why the hell dont they just put .22lr down, it cant be that difficult.
  17. Yes while that bitch Dianne Abott gets a ticking off from Millipede about her racist views of white people, brilliant, freedom of speech has gone in this country, unless you are an ethnic interloper.
  18. Yeah I've met some cracking lads off SD. Its just unfortunate that deer stalking and deer dog use seems to attract a particular kind of fuckwit...maybe its the money involved? Could not agree more, but lets face it, in every sport/pastime you get mr big pockets, with all the equipment, and is a total bell end, Falconry is a prime example, the IFF is full of them, knobs like that dont bother me any more, I just treat them with the contempt they deserve, that kind usually tries it for a year or two, acts all swanky and holier than thou for a bit, then takes up golf, or windsurfing, buys al
  19. I am glad you said that Dan, because this is a complete contradiction of what my pal was told when he got bsome land passed for rimfire, at the time he had a .22lr and a .17hmr the feo passed the land for .22, my pal asked if he could use his hmr they said no at first, then after a bit of a discussion, he (the feo) said he would re classify the land, and ALSO pass it for hmr, he is a well known member on here so will back my story up as true if need be, this shows again how different forces apply the rules as they see fit, so what MAY be accepted in one area MAY not be accepted in another, tre
  20. He is a star, a member of ukip I think.
  21. Right it is done, just sent him a pm, and politely asked him to join dont expect a quick response though lads, he has not been on since the end of march, which kinda ads to my theory of him only using a pc when he can, I dont know, once every couple of months maybe, but at least I have tried to get him on here
  22. Just as there are some thoroughly unpleasant people on here from time to time, but sd has some splendid chaps too who will go out of their way to help people, I too wondered how Stan is able to use a computer, this is a guess but maybe he takes a trip into town where he buys his supplies and uses an internet cafe, or friends pc? Fook knows but I can promise you he does.
