And just to add the .22-250 bucks the wind better, and you can shoot deer with it as well as foxes, which is a massive string to its bow, so to speak, if you have the chance of the odd Munty, cwd, or fancy a trip to Scotland on the roe, and there is a far far wider choice of bullets for the .224 calibre rifles. -
Advice Please Cz 527 .223

Good choice, just need to get you onto the .222 now and some reloading gear and you will be sorted -
You will probably find there will be a little bit of fash/turning material or just general crap floating about in the action, I suggest you take it to a gunsmith for a proper strip and clean, it wont cost much, but it should stop it, and most importantly you will have confidence in the gun, you will never shoot well with the thought in the back of your mind that it may happen again, and you may develop a nasty flinch.

Advice Please Cz 527 .223
charlie caller replied to shropshire dan's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Well the stock will make it shoot better if the bedding is better than standard, I have the Boyds pepper laminate on my .243 and it is an amazing stock, but just remember you will get stung for the import duty, about £30 in the cz 527 range, the varmint would be my choice, but each to their own. -

Hutchy I love the hornet mate, but unless you are going to reload for it, or can get a regular supply of 35gn vmax factory stuff I would leave it, most factory ammo is garbage. -

Just make sure you have a bank behind the rabbit you shoot, as fmj are rather prone to ricochet -

No I dislike them to say the least apart from all the problems people have with split cases, bullets loged in barrels etc etc, they are crap in the wind, and despite the claims people make about shooting foxes with them (yes I know they will kill foxes at a reasonable distance) why limit yourself to something just as loud as a small cf without the power, if you buy one you know what will happen, you will get foxes skulking on the edge of its humane range, in my opinion around 70- yards and then you will always be questioning yourself as to take the shot or not, for fear of wounding, no get a -

Yes I take your point, variables indeed do come into play, I may even be wrong saying it was louder, but certainly a harsher(rather unpleasant if one can use that term relating to firearm report) crack, but we tested it enough times for me to formulate (rather unscientificaly) the opinion that the hmr has a more defined crack to it, but who cares eh -

If you are going to have a .220 swift .22-250 or .204 you might as well just use your .243 with a 55-60 grain bullet, it will be no louder, but will out perform all of them, the .222 on the other hand will be quieter, cheaper to run, and deadly out to 250yards+ -
If it was me I would ask about a hmr when the feo visits, emphasise that the jacketed polymer tipped bullet is far less likely to ricochet than a .22 lr bullet, it will demonstrate that you have done your homework and are thinking about safety, if he or she starts umming and arrring over it, step in with the elevated condition, say you are quite prepared to put up high seats to shoot from, and see if you can gain some more permission, what area are you in pal?

Strange then that my .22 hornet was quieter than my pals .17hmr 35grain bullet@ 3100fps @ the muzzle, compared with a 17 grain bullet @ 2550 fps @ the muzzle, and that was with the same moderator on each rifle, curious eh ? -

Yes basically it is the amount of gases produced by the powder, hence a .22-250 will be a lot louder than a .22 hornet for instance, both using the same moderator, and both firing a .224 bullet, the hornet burns around 12 grains of powder, the .22-250 around 40 grains, even though they fire the same bullet. -
I dont think he has any intention of shooting into trees with a firearm! He has already taken on board the fact that he may be granted a rifle, with a shooting from elevated position condition(as per our very own Tornado 1979) . If I was the OP I would also be looking at getting some permission on a neighbours land that is passed for .22/.17 as this will strengthen your case enormously

Get a Benelli and use whatever you like the beauty of the inertia system. -
That of course pre-supposes that his licensing dept sanction rimfire for foxes, some dont, mine included, you can have your sub 12ftlbs airgun wound up to 40ftlbs and put on your cert, but once it is done, even if it is wound back down to 12 it remains a firearm for life, and must be on ticket, ring the feo, explain your problem and ask them to come and asses your land, it will save you time and money, because if you apply, and they turn you down, you will have installed an ammo cabinet (assuming your existing cabinet does not have a separate locking compartment) and waited a long time all fo

Hornet or .222 then Hutchey, they are your choices, if you are going to shoot any amount of rabbits, it has to be the hornet, if foxes are the main target, the hornet will flatten them out to 200yards with a good reload, .the .222 another 50-100 yards, but here is the rub, factory ammo for the hornet is generally crap (with the exception of Hornady 35gn vmax) and rather pedestrian, factory ammo for the .222 is generally good, and I have yet to see a round my mates .222 wont shoot, including the cheap and cheerful Prvi Partisan stuff, to get the best out of a hornet you MUST reload for it, if y -

.22 hornet or .222 or .17rem would be my choice, the first two are reasonably quiet, the .17 will let you shoot foxes a little bit further and is one deadly flat shooting round, to be honest with a nv set up you are not going to be shooting foxes @300 yards probably more like -150 yards so a hornet will do all you want at that distance, personally I would go for the .222 super accurate, dead easy to reload for, cheap rifles, plenty of ammo available, quiet (in cf terms) and will drop foxes @ 250 yards all day (or night in your case) a nice light CZ 527 with a PES end can will do the job nicely -
This is not 100% mate but with 6 acres with no backstops I would be very surprised if you were granted anything more than a fac air rifle, unless they give you shooting from an elevated position condition, what I would do is ring the feo and ask him/her to come out and asses your ground, and advise accordingly.

Proper well made rifle these, but mate you need to put a price on, (forum rules)
