  1. If i make it i am going to Linconshire on Sunday for a bit of snaring there is a small wood there with an Artificial Fox Earth in it , i know where a few of these are but what makes this one stand out is the entrance, there is a stone over it with a carving on it of a sleeping Vixen with two cubs, if it is not full of Pheasants i will put a picture up .
  2. Some time ago there was a post on the above and i said i would put a picture up , i have not been there for over forty years and there was not much to look at , once they were all alongside this disused railway in old sheep pasture and during the last war dozens of them went under the plow , in the field shown there was eight in two lines off four a hundred yards from the line and a hundred yards from each other the other side off the track there was twelve in two rows off six, when i used to ferret them they were about two foot high and eight yards in diameter but that was back in the 60
  3. There are usually a lot of rabbits at this place but not this year , i set a few Hoops but i was not confident about catching much , one had caught a rabbit but had been taken by a fox another held a hare , i will not bother this place again till next year.
  4. This is a taste of what i have to cope with .
  5. I like Snaring , Trapping ,Longnetting and Ferreting , one of my problems is carrying the tackle , you need that much kit to do these field sets , it is very hilly land and i cannot manage to carry it , one or both of my eldest sons usually come with me but they are both flat out at work , i have a lot of very good land [not that good this year ] and i will never take anyone else on it as i know what will happen, another thing that puts me off is dealing with the catch , i used to sell a lot to pubs but after skinning them ,getting rid of the bits , delivering them, then chasing your mone
  6. I set six snares on a railway fence yesterday and this morning picked just one up on the same track the other side of the village i set another half a dozen and again one rabbit all the snares were set on very good runs through the fence and i expected a few more,i think that i should have left them down for 2/3 nights for better results but i cannot get back there until the weekend , still ! a good start to the season what looks like being a stinker .
  7. save your money ...........shoot a cow
  8. If you hunt for profit, it is imperative that you do not leave too many ferrets behind enemy lines... The locator is a must have item,.. The problem here Phil, is the ground in alot of places is in undigable so if you were to lose a ferret whether snake bite, stuck or whatever you would lose the locater as well If the Rabbits can dig it then so can you.
  9. You are not slacking if you use a locator mate quite the opposite you will work harder and get many more Rabbits , i have ferreted rabbits for over 60years and i would not go out without one .
  10. I seem to catch 2/3 every year i have never heard of a fox taking one and we are a long way from any Eagles , traffic accounts for the odd one and some get picked up , some people get into trouble and do not know how to get out of it and just abandon them i even caught one in a snare once
  11. Coming out, in a JUBY, The Ferret had cleared the bank of rabbits and there will be nothing there for a week then i will get another crack at them , i have had this a few times , you know that there is rabbits in the area but you cannot catch them , then a ferret or a stoat turns up in a trap and all becomes clear .
  12. I trapped a ten hole set yesterday ,it was at the side of a train line just behind a rabbit fence , i have watched rabbits run into this place for the last few weeks and now i thought they were big enough. All i had was this old fellah , fat as butter and covered in ticks ,, i will give it a week or so then give it another go
  13. What cracking read, thanks Arry. T here are some near me in Leicestershire that i used to ferret in the 60s , i never had any large bags but i did manage a few , i will try to get over there next week and put a picture up .
  14. I boxed when i was a teenager and after a club match at Corby a fellah asked one of our trainers if he knew a couple of big lads to go on the doors at his pub at Stilton on the A1, two lads were up for it and i was roped in because i had a car , the night went well except for a scuffle which was quickly stopped and three chaps from Peterborough were chucked out , later as the place was closing a dwarf who had been a bit of a pain all night was blind drunk and getting out of hand, [he was on the dance floor looking up the girls mini skirts]. The gaffer said :thats it ,get him out : i went u
  15. On old pasture land rabbits can be more susceptible to developing worm cysts .
  16. A very good, and well run forum, some very good posts on lamping and ferreting by dedicated sportsmen, currently there is a massive thread on deer and hare coursing PRE BAN . It is not for people who's only aim in life is to insult Muslims , talk about Dope or other non hunting related threads it is more like this place was a few years ago when standards were much higher and contributors were more knowledgeable .
  17. Plenty of muggys about , the banks at this place was covered with them but I just picked a couple of lbs ,I will go back next Wednesday and cut the fresh crop for pickling and drying, on the way home my Mrs spotted another field full quite local to where we live in full view of everyone , I am supprised that no one picks them nowdays but they are very cheap to buy and less trouble but nowhere near as tasty , I also noticed the dark rings in the grass where the blue legs come up are looking fresh and full of zest ,might be a good season .

  19. Been married 45 years and never gone more than a couple of hours without having a few words, had five kids and never laid a finger on any of them or the Wife, money is a problem for many couples and we have been lucky to earn plenty , if you cannot earn it, go and take it .
