  1. that is the underside of the last mushroom pictured, if they are edible i will make a killing or are they Iron Pyrites.
  2. These three types were picked in a very old sheep pasture that has never been dressed with anything ,up to the middle 50s it was used for Rabbit Trapping and nothing else. The first two pictures show two types of Fungus that were growing on there own on the south facing slope of this pasture among some very active Rabbit Warrens. The third picture shows Fungus that was there in abundance all along the west facing slope of this pasture land , it was growing alongside an old mixed growth hedgerow extending about ten yards out, when i arrived at this field it was not quite light and i pick
  3. Been a poor year for shallots ,we usually pickle twice as many , we will have to buy a few pounds in .
  4. I went out yesterday to set some Rabbit traps , i took ten Fenn 6s with me because it is a hard walk to the Site and i could not have managed the heavier JUBYS, as it was i only set three because of the cover and i did'nt fancy ripping my hands up, when i got there this morning about seven the traps had been placed on the stewardship along with two of the three marker pins, on the way back to my motor i picked a fry of mushrooms for a Gel who lives on a barge here then walked on down the towpath to the swing bridge , this place is a Heritage site and people come from all over the world to s
  5. Try to get your trap in as far as you can as a trapped rabbit is very visible , block off holes that you are not trapping, tilt your trap if needed to the angle of the tube ceiling , i do not like Fenns because they are no good and a clean kill is rare and the nearer you get to the mouth of the hole the inbuilt problems with trap are more apparent .
  6. I go on a lot of land that is well looked after , i have been on most of it between 20 / 40 years and i all those years i have been able to get as many rabbits i have wanted and sometimes if i was not careful ,more than i wanted , through my job in the early 60s i was lucky to get land all over the Midlands mainly in Leics, Notts, Lincs, and Northamptonshire, some years it was good all over ,others it was patchy but i could allways get out and get as many as i wanted somewhere ,over the last five years it has been winding down all over these areas and this year there is nothing , all these
  7. I know all the Land owners in that area and at one time i went to Croft a lot , it was a brilliant place for snaring and trapping and i used to do well . .I lived on Ratby Meadow Lane and was spoilt for rabbiting there , i don' think here are many there now days but in the ten years i lived there i caught plenty, these pictures were taken in the field the new brewery is being built in .
  8. Thanks Eddie . My Grandfather George Stacy was involved in the eradication of the Rabbits that were immune to the virus in the 50s , he was one of a team that caught live rabbits for testing before the exterminators moved in .It was a very large scale exercise run along military lines, its a pity they done such a good job .
  9. How can i make the pages bigger ,? the print is to small for me.
  10. Not red it yet other than the IMBRA trap............15 shillings = 75 pence In 1961 that 15 Shillings would have bought you 18 pints of Shipstones Best Bitter. Six packets of Fags [20s] Park Drive , Woodbines , or Players Weights . 30 Bus journeys into Town, the current price of a bus trip to to town is £2 . 75 . I do not know how much a pint of Beer is in a Pub but i think 20 Park Drive costs a Tenner . And if you bought a dressed Chicken off of my Mam it would set you back 7 shillings = 35 pence .
  11. Do you mean Network Rail mate BR is a thing of the past and as far as I know NR do not gas the bunnies and it looks like its been sprayed with weed killer No, it has been cut and the holes have been filled and the rabbits are not there so i assume it has been gassed two years ago i cleared rabbits at Flash Farm Narborough on the Leicester to Brum line that was gassed all the way out to Croft..
  12. Ithink i have the best land in Leicestershire [ and a lot of it] also i have two blocks of land in Linconshire which amount to over 6 thousand acres, in the past i was limited to what i caught because i only had a market for a bout a week , this year there is almost nothing , this morning i set a few snares on the side of main rail line which is always been good for a few and was looking very good at the end August and found it had been strimmed and gassed by BR something they have never done before in this area, i have had land in the past that bordered BR and that has been gassed but always
  13. Out early today for a good look around a big old place were i used to go for a lot of years, i parked in a field that had been good to me for many years all open setts in red sand and the minimum dig was three feet and you had to shift some gear to get down that far , not much doing on that bit so i drove further up and started to see some rabbits come off the stubble , i pulled up on a corner and saw a couple run into a small sett next to some game cover so i put some traps down,i dug four beds out and placed the first trap in and while i was doing this the rabbits were bumping and one was
  14. The first picture is the sett that had the carving on the second picture is another one which is going to be relocated , when i spoke with the land owner this morning he told me there was five setts on the property but two have been lost . I mentioned that i had found three pheasant poults dead and warm along side of some game cover , he said it happens every day and it is done by the Buzzards or Kites.
  15. I do not think Foxes make much impact on rabbit numbers like most predators they will take the young ,old and weak, they can and do a lot of damage to all types of poultry and i lose a lot of snared rabbits yearly really they are opportunists and scavengers
