  1. If Saudi and Iran set about each other the entire region would go up like a powder keg. There is now way the West or even the Russians/Chinese are going to sit and watch that happen as it's still one of our biggest sources of oil. The Saudis are a spineless bunch anyway, they much prefer someone else doing their dirty work...think Iraq going to war with Iran in the 1980s. The after that war the Saudi's/Kuwaitis royally shafted Saddam which is why Iraq ended up invading Kuwait. Like you say they would prefer us to sort it, the Saudi's aren't exactly well know for getting their hands dir
  2. I asked the same a few pages back mate.. The Saudis bought a load of Typhoons off us, what's stopping them using them instead of asking the west to intervene? Do they really have the capability to carry out action as decisively as the US or UK though Malt based on the Syrian's air defense systems? Do they have the Military intelligence capability to designate targets as easily? It's alright having Typhoons and F-15s but are they enough? If the UK took action the majority would be Naval with a sub surfacing off the coast and firing guided missiles and the RAF dealing with air threats. Pol
  3. Sounds like bollocks to me lol http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/middleeast/syria/10285341/Vladimir-Putin-says-Russia-could-back-Syria-intervention-if-UN-approves.html

  5. nope, ive known 2 military dog trainers, both have brought there dogs home with them. Both guard dogs too, not sniffer dogs. one of them lives on camp with his missis and family, basically a family pet now. The other is a bird, dog lives with her mam (her home too when shes home) There was a documentary about Afghanistan on last year and the dog handler stepped on an IED. He was reunited with the dog later and was allowed to take it home. Very

  7. If young people had it drummed into them to start a pension from a fairly early age it would be a good start but of course the minute anyone who has a bit of wealth says this the bleeding heart socialists will be out crying. Start off with £1000 and contribute £100 per month with a fairly low return rate of 5% and by the time you get to 65 you'd have a reasonable £212,000 in your pension pot. Make it 150 a month and you'd end up with over £300,000. You say that Nick and it's a very fair point, but when you're young like me you're on the bottom rungs of your career ladder, buying yo

  9. Well you can also draw down at the same time, while the fund gets smaller it still is accruing interest from the investment slowing the rate it diminishes, but yes you are partly right and this is why younger people need to put a little thought in to pensions. Also you will have your state pension which will be around 140 a week. Don't forget if you can live on the interest only then you've got the whole thing to leave to your kids. Too many people (like myself) only start to think about it when they get older, then there is less years for the investment to accrue and the contributions hav

  11. You need to get the sugar coated ones they don't taste as bad
  12. Im not jealous at all, there comfortable retirement is at the expense of someones barely acceptable retirement, and its being fought for by so called socialists. Fireman is a great job, many many people would love to do it. Its got great pay, great hours, great pension, even after its been changed, and even more important its secure. Compare that to a bricky, an office worker or a shelf stacker. Private sector pensions just dont cut the mustard in comparison. If firefighters are being shat on this much by pension changes then finish, vote with your feet. Get another job or just get your o
  13. There's always a victim in an armed robbery I doubt many people get over having someone stick a gun in their face. Maybe breaking in to a vault when no one is there is closer to victimless.
  14. Yes you're right there are similarities, we are heading down the road towards the US system if we are not careful. Basically there are many things in the UK that are much better that the US like our NHS system, pensions and social welfare system for example but the problem is that people then treat them as a god given right. These great things have to be paid for by the tax payer and especially by people who are working that bit harder just to have a little more, and now those people are getting slapped with more taxes to the point where you wonder what the benefit is considering you might be
  15. It is my wife's a teacher and she's had her contract changed as well. It would be better to get rid of the final salary pension all together that way people can chose to retire earlier and live on a bit less and also if they chose to they can put more away each month if they plan to retire early. The real problem with final salary pensions is that doctors and highly paid managers are on them as well, we're talking people earning over £100,000 retiring on £40,000 minimum. To add insult to injury even if you have worked really hard in the private sector you're pension pot is capped a

  17. Looks like someone is doing a little bit of back tracking. I suppose the prospect of having the French watch your back isn't quite as appealing http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/middleeast/syria/10278572/Now-Obama-puts-Syria-strike-on-ice.html
  18. Speeding is not a criminal offense that way I understand it, you don't get a criminal record for going over the speed limit. It's an offense under the road traffic act which is different.
  19. My brother just got home from his holidays to find some c**ts have been in his workshop and robbed a bunch of stuff, he's now basically lost a months wages and this is someone who probably earns half the money he would get if he was on the dole. Are some people posting on here seriously thinking because it wasn't his house this should be ok? He can't claim on his insurance because his excess is too high and he doesn't want it go go up even more. Just because someone only robs say Tescos doesn't make them ok, they have the mentality that they are owed a living and that is more criminal than
  20. Coincidentally he's now calling the French Americas oldest allies. Technically they are, but clearly it's a dig at the UK. I can't help but feel parliament has made us look weak, I know as Brits we sorta want to stick it to the yanks and this will give a lot that buzz but our relationship with them should be carefully nurtured, they are a hell of an ally to have in this world, I would hate to see us loose that. Though I think it's important to remember that we are out for the moment, given stronger intelligence we may well be back in. I'd just like to have seen the whol
