  4. fine dog mate.will you get much litter wastage or will all of them be fast enough for the job.im in ireland and iv a pit and iv been offered a greyhound bitch but i dont know how it will work out,is there any draw backs to this breedin or are you on to a winner for the charlie dogs
  5. thats interesting poacher, does that go for long dogs and half cross lurcher etc.always thought greyhound bitch as theyl take more from the mother and be faster but i suppose its not clear cut with genetics Personaly i think its a better option [bANNED TEXT] breeding longdogs a lot imho comes down to the ease in wich a greyhound dam can be got hold of.Its only based on wat i have seen and a lot seem to think the collie dam of the right sort throws better pups than the greyhound dam cheers mate
  6. do yee think the working blood wheatons worked better than the bull terriers from working stock during a dig before the ban

  8. just start bringing him out the countryside in the daytime and get it used to you and gates, wires, cows, ditches etc and coming back to you when you call it,bits of cheese might persuade it.buy a lamp and you and the dog go out(or with someone else who lamps)on a windy night and shine around for a pair of eyes and walk right up to it,just let the dog see the rabbit when he runs keep the dog on the lead, hel soon get interested.they naturally want to chase small moving things it will soon click.youl need a slip lead when you think hes ready to run,(lead ran through between collar and neck and hol
  9. yea id prefer dogs to follow their nose and bust through the ditch but he might have in time.he was well bred and his style was good for flushing longears.i hadnt him long and i didnt train him to do that at all he just used to do it naturally, but the poor fecker died so maybe he would have taken to the cover but i dont have much experience with them
  10. Cracking reply ive ran dogs 20 years now and had plenty and still have single handed dogs' but if im on a good night out id double up firstly both dogs keeping fit getting a run secondly greater chance of a catch and thirdly my single handed dogs dont have to prove nothing i know they do the job themselves single handed means catch and kill on its own, nothing more nothing less.the dog should be fast enough to catch it without the need of another dog turning charlie into it and able to sispatch without nonsense
  11. around how much does it cost to get one sent over mate? of 100 euro sound
  12. i might be wrong but i was told this and i had a young sprocker for a short while and he ran from left to right across the field during the hunt
  13. i think the field trial dogs are more bred for quatering the fields and probably youd be better to get a springer not from those lines for heavy cover
  14. really sorry to hear that mate.
  15. that could be blood pressure or something more serious get him to a vet in case cos you could find him dead
  16. I've only ever found this worked with the Spaniel? I could leave food down for him all day if I wanted to and he'd take what he wanted, when he wanted. If I tried this with any of my current dogs, they'd split their sides before they stopped eating! Matt, Tyke looked fine when I saw him mate, your doing fine by him. As others have said, you'll be able to see if he's losing/gaining too much weight, it doesn't happen over night so you'll have plenty of time to sort it out. every dogs is different your right, but iv had a good few dogs and it always worked for me so im just talking by my e
  17. I always worked and bred cuilleog and C F dogs and found them game to a fault at everything. are they irish working lines of pits mate? their staffs fella... Yokel so theyd be a pure line from by gone days?,i love the working staffs, any pics?
  18. i was talking recovery rate ,run after run,on the lamp.
  19. i dont understand this run till it drops bit?? will they be running fast enough to catch a fresh rabbit then drop in full flight or will they not be anywere near the rabbits pace but still trying till they drop (in the latter case a pointless run) !! at the end of the day you can want it as much as you like when your blown out theres nothing you can do!! theres going to be exceptions with all crosses but majority of collie types will naturally last longer than bull xz!! they might not be stupid enough to run themselves into the ground in a feeble attempt to catch quarry!! whats the point?? b
  20. thats true, the stamina from bull is there for pit fighting, different fitness to running fitness which collie blood is more suited to due to their fieldwork
