10 Id say. Whats the prize lol! And do I get a bonus prize if this is correct... I guess more hobs than jills.

Bout 15 is my best. That was me and my stepdad in around 4 or 5 hours. On my own I think the most Ive had to lug around was about 7 or 8. Got loadsa permission but its not all as full of rabbits as some places. Had a few half days out without a trace, not the ferrets fault or my fault just the fact that there was no bunnies to be had in that part of the farm etc. Put it this way though, I would rather be out trying to catch rabbits and catch nothing, than be stuck at home not even trying

LMAO.... only kidding! Nah nothing funny about it your obviously concerned. Personally I wouldnt worry about it. My smallest jill kit fights with a big hob kit all the time. He used to always have the advantage over her but now she pounces on him and everything and its a fair fight! Its so funny to watch I love watching them playfight! If they are sleeping together they obviously dont hate each other, playfighting is just part of them growing up and growing in confidence. If anything your wee one will become as tough as nails (and by that I dont mean aggresive towards humans)

You can quite often see tufts of rabbit fur lying in fields where bucks have been fighting I think. If this is a buck rabbit its probably the result of a fight with another buck over who gets to pump the does!

Thats sad news mate I had a few escape for a couple of hours and they were under my garden shed when I found them so she may not have gone far. Check anywhere like that where she could be hiding fast asleep! I Really hope you find her, i think youve done the right thing leaving her a nesting box and food though.

1/4 Whippet/1/4 greyhound 8th Beddy/8th Saluki/8th bullgrey/8th Collie Sounds like it has the makings of a great allrounder mate. Should be plenty fast and plenty game

I can vouch for these kits they are very fine ferts I got a couple off Del myself (I intended to get one but ended up scrounging 2) and Im really pleased with how they are getting on. They are doing great with my other kits and my adult ferts too, and are generally coming on in leaps and bounds
-
Round my way they make £1 clean killed and gutted. Never sold them myself though too many ferts to feed as well as feeding me!
-
Gorgeous lookin wee ferts mate! Would have one of those silver ones off you in a heartbeat Anyway back to the question I know its not the biggest litter but my jill recently had 9 and they all survived. Like you say a variety of sizes but all healthy and active. And the litter that my jill was from there were 10 and they all survived too.

Mine are at 7 and 8 weeks and seem to be pretty inconsistent when it comes to whether they are nippy or not. Usually when I pick them up they are fine but the odd time they are wee terrors lol!

My stepdad has had ferrets for donkeys years and he always said that after they have been bred once they dont need to be brought out of season again after that. But they would probably be fine even without being bred on their first season. But Ive always had them brought out to be on the safe side. Might see how they go in future.

Thanks guys. You've no idea the relief that came over me when I saw them under the shed! Gunna put another catch on the hutch later I think so save re-occurance!

Got a call at work from my mum about 3.30 today saying that 4 of my ferrets had escaped ! So I said to my boss that I needed to go and booted it home (following all relevent speed limits of course..) to search for them. Turns out my mum had got 2 of them back that were on the path that runs along the back garden. One of my jills and her kit. Anyway I searched high and low for the other 2 kits. Now they are only about 8 weeks old so Im thinking the worst that if I dont find them they wont last the night. Searched all the neighbours gardens in there bushes and everything. And Ive got 3

They are strong looking ferts thurso jack a credit to you mate. If thats the mum on the 2nd pic down she sure is a looker

Ive always wanted a dalmation from working lines but i doubt if you can find one these days. They were used as carriage dogs in the 18th century to walk beside horses and carriages to protect them i think. And also they have been used as hounds too before that. And I believe they have used as hounds more recently as well.

:clapping: How right you are mate. Its the same over here too. f****n idiots making laws that defy common sense.
-
I hope I didnt sound like I was telling you not to breed mate. Theres nothing wrong with it at all I was just giving you my take on how its sometimes hard to home ferrets. Hopefully someone on here will be able to let you use a good working hob I would lend you mine but Im a good few hours away!
-
Unless there is a demand for kits around your way or you want some kits for yourself I wouldnt bother breeding. You can get a jill jab at the vets to take her out of season if you cant find a vasectomied hob. But if you do want to breed kits you should wait til her vulvae is swollen to about the size of a thumbnail i think Well thats what I do. But dont wait too long as the longer you wait the harder it will be to home kits I would imagine. Maybe someone from this site in your area will have a hob you can use to breed with?

Ill be hanging from my bedroom window with a bucket of hot tar should any antis come round my door !!!

Ok what I have now done is put her in her old hutch again with her kits and the other kits I got from DEL off this site. So she will have a few to look after They seem to be getting on ok shes not done anything malicious to the other kits as far as I can tell. At first I thought she was biting there faces but I think (bloody hope) shes just licking them. As far as food goes I will be feeding a bit extra to make sure the kits are full enough to grow anyway so she should get plenty. Thanks again guys

Looks like a belter of a day out Frank. 41 rabbits will keep the dogs and ferrets happy for a while! Thats bad news mate I hope it doesnt arrive on any of my permission which is only a few miles away from yours. Although its inevitable at one time or another . Plus side is though mate it should help you bring on your pups if its around when there old enough to start running the odd easy rabbit.
-
So one final question, when will the jill stop doing the kits head in by dragging it around to the nest etc? Take it it just depends when shes ready? Hopefully it wont be too long!
-
Following your advice I put one of the kits in with her and to say she was pleased to see her kit is an understatement! She was like "right you- in bed!" and dragged her off to the nesting box by the scruff and is licking her all over as we speak, sqeaking away. Hopefully she will calm down after a while the 8 week old kit is probably not enjoying it lol it keeps trying to get away! Ferretlove, thanks for your advice Hopefully this will make the swelling go down and make the jill less crazy whenever I go near her hutch. Could you please tell me where I went wrong though so i can lear

Shes a bit frantic now that you mention it. Only thing is there are kits from another litter in with her remaining kits now so I dont want to put her back in case something goes wrong. What are you thinking could be the problem? Was she not ready to leave them? I could put one of her kits in with her to see?
-
Over 7 weeks. Some had already left at just under 7 weeks and were getting on ok. They didnt need any mothering she was getting pretty stressed out by them I think, thats why I took her away to give her a break.
