That explains why shes largeish then! Thats a belter mate crackin story! Dont worry though I know of a guy a couple of miles from me had the same problem. My dad was in the offy gettin beer and had the lurchers in the boot of the landy. So because he had lurchers some guy asked if he was needing any ferrets. No, said my dad, my son breeds them etc etc. Turns out what had happened was the guy thought he had 2 jills and one of them was a hob! Ended up with a litter of around 20 apparently! Also, The nads appear around February I think. Sometimes a earlier though. You can then get

Cheers stubby. Think your right mate Ill just put them together at the weekend I think. Thats what I normally do with my jills, put them in and walk away. Thats the best way otherwise I would be tempted to seperate them when they started scrapping. I just thought with them being hobs they might fight that bit harder y'know and it would end in blood spilt! Cheers

Looking for a bit of advice. Ive been trying over the past few weeks to gradually introduce my 2 hobs together, one is an adult and one is just grown out of being a kit. So anyway a couple of weeks ago I put them on the grass in a run, with a big pipe in it and they were fine for a few minutes, hardly paying attention to each other and then my older hob grabbed the young un by the neck, quite hard like, had to pull them apart before one of them got hurt. Put them together on the lawn for a sniff of each other tonight and they seemed fine but then my older hob grabbed him again. Is th

I recently upgraded form mk1 to mk3 and having used the mk3 on 2 outings, and only needing it on the latter outing, I must say I prefer the mk3. At first I saw how complicated it was and thought, oh shit what have I got myself into, but after locating the first lay-up right on top of where I wanted to be, on a huge warren, in half the time it would have taken with my mk1, I have no regrets upgrading. It took a few minuted to figure out how to use it, and my one isnt the newer version with the pinpoint dial, but I used it another couple of times that day and it did the job right on the but

Firstly: Well done madcowz Glad you had a good time out, that'll be you hooked! Im sure within the next few times out you ferts will come on in leave and bounds and you will know almost for sure that your ferts have fully swept the warren! Secondly: My 2 pence worth in the locator debate, using a very recent anecdote. Just today, me and my mate (swandog1 off this site) were out for a spot of ferreting. Took 4 ferrets altogether, 2 jills each, and a locator and 3 collars. All the ferrets that were entered had a collar on at the time. It just so turns out that it was for good blood

Really enjoyed that thanks for putting it up and thanks to mrs moby for writing it

Others have said this, but I feed ferals if they are from around farms etc but if they were from in the middle of town etc I wouldnt. My ferrets ate a feral last night infact, shot in a field. Chucked in the whole thing never gutted it or anything, to no ill effect

Glad to hear that Ricky! All worked out in the end but you had me worried at first!

I know they arent rabbits but as we speak I have a hutch with guinea pigs in it on top of a hutch with a ferret in it with no problems so far (touchwood).

Cheers guys, next time Im out I'll go somewhere with more rabbits hopefully, but it was good to get her started. Gaz, yea thats the one mate, she did the trick like.

Went out and did a few warrens earlier to mark the 1st of september Took my wee untried 16-17 week old albino jill and her mother out. Put the young un down a nice 5 holer and a couple of minutes and a short rumble later out popped her first rabbit Twas a good feeling seeing the wee kit I bred come out of the hole sniffing for her prize! No more rabbits so I put my older jill down just to make sure she'd cleared it, and she had. Did another few warrens, using both the ferrets at once on the bigger ones, bolted 3 more rabbits but lost 1 from an unnetted hole and one which got out o

I think they are the smallest ferrets I have ever seen, they look bloody cool like! Well done magwitch hope they do well for you
-
I usually wait til they are at least 16 weeks or so but thats just me.

Sounds like your doing everything right mate. I dont feed dry very often myself though. Perhaps you could stop free feeding it for a while and see if your hob tones up a bit? But to each his own Some days are worse than others for having to dig, and some ferrets have more of a tendency than others. One time I was ferreting and only bolted 3 rabbits out of 11 or 12 or something like that, and dug to the rest. And other times I have been out with the same ferrets and not had to dig once. Its just like that sometimes. But anyway well done mate not sure on the total but I make it 5+

Unfortunately my mate cant make it, something to do with pheasant pens Thought I was gunna get roped into fixing them with him but he never asked so Ill be out with the Weirach later to see what I can muster We're "definately" going out next week though after old charlie...

Not tonight Im afraid I was gunna go around 9ish but somethings come up. Was out on monday night though got a couple of rabbits and a crow. Im down to just the crow now just chucked it in for the ferrets a min ago. Got some chicken to feed em too. I think im going out tomorrow night with my mate with his .22 rimmy for rabbits and his .243 on the back seat of the landy in case we see a fox as there were some foxes spotted on his shoot the other night. He lets me have all the rabbits he shoots if I hold the lamp for him so its all good

decided to leave it, what bout you kreet?
-
Kreet Ive got a similar idea mate I have been persuading myself all day not to go out tonight after dinner (so will be about 6.30) and do 1 warren with 1 ferret... because its either that or I go out with the airgun I think. I really dunno... Hmmmmm Edited to add I normally go first thing in the morning and if Im still there I dont like entering a ferret after 3pm in the winter. Its an old saying I think but Ive learnt it the hard way I got a right sweat on trying to dig my hob from under a feckin great tree root at after 4 with darkness approaching fast!

I noticed that too Ricky. I had a litter early may and the kits will all be around 14-15 weeks now. But I was in pets at home the other day and had a look at the board and there must be dozens and dozens of ferrets for sale in total, all around 7-10 weeks.
-
If they are independant of there mother they will be fine now mate. I let mine go at around 7-8 weeks but Ive been given them at 6 weeks before with no problems.

that comment is the main reason its so hard to get land poachers ruin it for us all.. Nonsense. First of all I said that I do have permission and I did that the right way by asking, But if I didnt have permission I would poach yes. Ive got ferrets to feed, and more importantly allow them to do there job. Poaching does not ruin it for us all. People who take the piss are the ones who ruin it for us all. Half the time no-one need even know someone has been on there land. Leave nothing but footprints and take nothing but rabbits you could say.

How do I stop them using corners as a toilet?

I have been accepted on land a lot more times than I have been declined. I cant even remember being declined for that matter. This is how I do it: Either me or my mums partner (who is kinda my hunting partner a lot of the time) go to the door and say something to the effect of, "are you the landowner here, only I noticed when passing by there are a load of rabbits here. Would you like us to come ferreting/hawking/shooting/whatever and see if we cant get rid of them for you" Sometimes we get asked to text them before we go in case they are moving beasts or something but usually the repl
