  1. You have some very smart lookin dogs there mate
  2. This years kits will be fine together until about January or February. The hob usually matures slightly earlier than the jill and will try it on with her before shes ready and can end up marking her neck pretty badly unless you seperate them. But hobs all mature at slightly different times (depending on age etc) so as soon as you think his balls are dropping you should seperate them. Hope this helps.
  3. Just last night a similar thing happened to me! Ive got a kinda collapsing foldout run that pins into the grass. Put the kits in it last night while I cleaned the hutch out then in the corner of my eye I saw two of them about 5 foot away from the run. Put them back in and then they showed me there escape route, one of the corners wasnt pinned together right and they were squeezing out of a hole about 1 1/2 inches or so! Lucky I was still outside because I was going to leave them for a bit to have a mooch about!
  4. Nothing wrong with the odd day old chick. Fair enough I dont think they would be nutritious enough to sustain your ferrets permanently, but that doesnt mean there crap. After all even though they are just a fluffy egg, egg protein is the best source of protein known to man and egg protein is the standard by which all other proteins are measured. So a fluffy egg may not be such a bad thing... (In human nutrition terms but Im sure a complete protein is a complete protein regardless of the species ingesting it)
  5. If you are concerned about fleas try freezing the carcass for a few days first. Should sort that out
  6. My ferret kits were eating meat straight from the carcass before there eyes even opened. Its natures way. And meat straight from the fridge should be fine. Meat straight from the fridge, meat that has just defrosted, meat still warm from being shot just 10 minutes before, it all goes down the same way with my pack But in the case of a ferret that prefers pellets over meat, it obviously just depends on what the kits were weaned onto. One of my ferrets when I picked him up had never eaten rabbit before. Went out and shot one for him and gave him a hind leg and he was looking at i
  7. Smart lookin ferrets mate Hope they do well for you.
  8. f****n hell The b*****ds who try these things should be strung up. Ill even provide the rope...
  9. If theyve got a strong neck (kinda hard to explain-you'll know yourself that they feel strong) then any time from about 16 weeks old should be fine.
  10. Cheers for the advice guys, think my mind was made up weeks ago anyway but I thought I would ask just to make sure there was no major disadvantages Shes certainly got the makings in her to be a good ferret! If she takes after her parents she'll be a wee belter! Cheers
  11. Nah sorry mate like I say she caught my eye think shes a permanent part of my team now
  12. Well my ferret kits are about 7 weeks old now and as such are soon to be gradually dispersed to there new homes. Im keeping one jill for myself and the one that caught my eye was the smallest one of the litter, I just really like the look of her shes like a 3/4 scale version of her sisters. Now will the fact that shes small adversly affect her working ability? She may even fill out a bit through time but shes been the smallest since birth despite eating as much and developing as quick as the rest. So yeah, as above will it affect her working ability in a bad way? Personally I dont fe
  13. LOL take it you didnt want to get your own dressing gown wet then! Bet your hubby was chuffed this morning when he got up to get his toast and his dressing gown was dripping! And try not to worry, as long as they have plenty of bedding material and there bedroom is dry so that they can dry off in it they wont mind getting wet too much.
  14. Absolutely rediculous isnt it! There seems to be a common misconception that working a ferret is cruel! What a load of nonsense! Anyone who has worked ferrets will know know that they absolutely love working the burrows and its what they think they are born to do! Best of luck in your search I hope you find some
  15. Try animal/ferret rescues in your area. Adult ferrets are harder to home and as such are usually easier to find in places like this. Hope this helps.
  16. A guy I know let some guys ferret his land (which made me feel a bit put-out but nevermind...) anyway they got 68 rabbits in one day. ALL does. This was last winter.
  17. LMAO! What the......!!!!!
  18. Sound like a crackin bunch mate! Hope the new kits do well for you they look the shiz!
  19. Try not to worry im sure they will be fine! All ferts are different sizes especially at that age. One jill in my litter is about 3/4 the size of the rest of the jills but shes healthy and happy and getting enough food. Yours will grow in time but even at adult size they may be different in size. As for feeding meat, I would try chicken as opposed to mince. You can get a tray of 10 chicken wings for about 1.50 from tescos and these have plenty of skin and bone so will give your ferrets something to chew and crunch on. As for not wanting to eat meat, dont give them any choice. If you

Not trying to be funny mate, because I used to believe this myself too. But have you ever tried to get a rabbit out of a stop end after digging about a foot away from it? As you know the stop end 9 times out of 10 fits the shape of the rabbit perfectly. Trying to get even a couple of fingers in around the arse of the rabbit to grab a leg to pull it out with is hard enough. It would take a really small ferret to get all the way round to the front of the rabbit and push it out backwards dont you think? Not trying to start an argument, just some food for thought (and maybe discussion) is
  21. I thought Tony Blair was from Edinburgh? Just checked and he is from Edinburgh: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Blair
  22. Could make even more things illegal perhaps (BLOODY HOPE NOT ), cant see any bans being lifted. Theres too much pressure from arseholes and antis who know feck all about how the countryside is run. And already my blood is boiling just writing this I hope theres another general election soon. I dont see why we should be stuck with a prime minister we never elected.

If you dont like digging... Dont get ferrets. Sooner or later a ferret of any size will meet a rabbit that does not want to bolt, or is trapped in a stopend. Then the rabbit will pay the price. I would prefer my ferrets to kill said rabbit and force me to dig than leave it there alive. As you can tell I dont feel there is much correlation between the size of the ferret and the amount of digging you have to do, I know someone who had a really small jill who was a farkin demon and had to be dug to all the time she was so quick. My medium sized jill is the same. Kills them whenever she c
  24. All sorted now, going to working homes. Thanks for the interest.
  25. Crackin lookin wee ferrets you've got there! Never seen any quite like that! Hope they serve you well as pets and/or workers
