    Jill

I Think my jills coming back into season. Shes only been away from her litter 5 days but i noticed shes starting to swell again already! Is this normal? I was expecting it would take at least a fortnight or 3 weeks time perhaps! Anyway Im not sure if I want to breed her again, Im keeping kits from her first litter and I got a couple from DEL too so Im all set for the season. So I think Im gunna sort her out with a snipped hob if I can borrow one or pay the vets to jab her. Another idea I had is I know someone with a silver hob and Ive always wanted a silver so I was maybe going to
  2. I bought a Mk3 about a month or 2 ago from someone on here. Havent used it yet though it looks complicated. Although I still voted yes because its meant to be better when your used to it.
  3. There doing grand mate! That hob will have a good job next year servicing the kits I bred to save line breeding. Shame todays ferreting wasnt any good! Bolted a few (4) rabbits, but the standard of shooting was awful... Luckily though i never had to dig to any baby bunnies I thought it would be a nightmare. Anyway so much for having a rabbit problem half the warrens were empty! Packed up about 12oclock because it was getting too hot (in between the showers!) and didnt want the ferret getting too hot. Cheers, Ross
  4. £30 saving there mate well done :clapping:
  5. I have went and agreed to ferret for someone whos in need of a bit of pest control tomorrow! Hes going to shoot his shotgun over my ferret since there would be too much cover for netting. Hope everything goes well Im not looking forward to digging to little uns all day! Only ferret I can take is my big hob since my jills just weaned a litter recently so shes out the question, and I dont think the 8 week old kits will be much good lol!!! Anyway has anyone got any advice about summer ferreting? Only good thing is I get to keep the rabbits and Im in need of fert grub! Luckily its no
  6. Cracking idea, something similar to the NFWS or whatever its called. "Free pest control in your area"
  7. Ive seen them advertised for 25 quid and i thought they were having a bloody laugh! In the countrymans weekly I think I saw them! Bloody nearly choked from laughter! f**k paying 90 odd quid and I bet there parents and grandparents have never seen a bloody rabbit! And if they have then you would think real ferreters would have the decency to charge realistic prices. To this day ive never paid for a ferret and they've always been belters! 90 quid I would want it to come with a bloody locator collar attached and dig itself out when it layed up!!
  8. Trouble and Strife - Wife That'll be shining bright - That'll be right! And I come from noweher near london
  9. If I was you mate Id run to the vets. Only way to be sure Hope everything turns out ok. Edited to add, is she straining at all? Maybe you could phone the vet for advice rather than taking her away from her litter.
  10. If the cage is decent then I would pay that
  11. Probably a sheet of metal I had escapades last season ferreting under a sheet of tin cladding (well about 30 stacked!). Never knew it would block the signal (should have thought ) luckily I never had a layup! Never got any rabbits either 2 or 3 bolted from missed holes

Shot with open sights as well, good lad! Reminds me of me always a cracking shot even at that age Nah just messing Lets hope its the first of many for him mate And ive got a Diana very similar to that in .22 but it needs a bit of TLC.
  13. Sounds like you've struck a good deal then. At least you get to see them and use them thats good.
  14. Ok for now on Im sitting this one out its getting worse.
  15. Well it would seem you made your mind up before asking then. But one thing is for sure your ferrets will do a lot better on meat than on bread and milk anyday. Why do you think they have the teeth they do? For killing and eating animals. If they were meant to live on mushy bread they would just need bloody gums. No wonder they are skinny they probably have no bloody muscle.
  16. Bread and milk isnt a very good diet for a ferret mate Feed fresh rabbit/pigeon/chicken/pheasant/etc as much as possible. And failing that you could always feed dry ferret food. Meat is best but dry food is still a lot better than bread and milk.
  17. Frank do you not keep your own ferrets anymore? Or am I missing something here (wouldnt surprise me )

Most of the people who are calling in seem to hope for a ban. I just emailed in with a pro-racing email. The guy doesnt seem to be in a rush to read out the pro-racing emails. Ok he has redeemed himself and read some out now . Im not wanting to start an argument on here about the subject was just a bit miffed when he seemed that it was a one sided argument.
  19. Looks like a good do out for 10 minutes work mate Isnt it great when everything just goes to plan
  20. Dont worry even a really small ferret is still a rabbits worst enemy The jill kit Im keeping from my litter is the smallest of the bunch, about 2/3 the size of the rest of the jills and Im looking forward to working her. Besides she might end up the same size as her sisters, just like yours may end up the same size as each other eventually. If your really unsure give him an extra month or two to grow up so maybe start them at 5 or 6 months old, but I reckon they'll be grand
  21. As I suspected Im sure he'll do a bloody good job at it too Maybe next year Ill be after saker for the same purpose.
  22. Thats a smart lookin bird mate. What have you got planned for him?
  23. I use a combination of hay and old jumpers/tops in each nest box. The ferts then fashion them how they like. My hob just ignores the hay and wraps himself up in the jumper.
  24. And surely that doesn't deserve such a harsh reply? I read loads of books before even joining here and have had the books (and I have quite a few) contradicted many many times. In fact, most of the books I have contradict each other. Would like to feel that I can ask basic questions here. /Mad Madcowz it would seem you are agreeing with me. I was not advocating gnippers harsh reply merely commenting that there was some truth in his second post regarding the fact that many people dont learn about animals before keeping them. Like I said people are able to use thi
  25. I have to agree with gnippers second post in a way. I have just gave away 2 kits to a guy on sunday (no-one from this forum by the way) who said he had kept ferrets years ago so I thought they would be going to a good home. But anyway when he came round to pick them up he was asking basic questions like "will they need to be seperated in the summer" and "what should I feed them" Anyway I have gave the guy as much information as I could so hopefully the kits will be fine. And he knows how to get in touch if there are any problems so fingers crossed. But gnipper is right there are
