  1. I use the lids of ring pull cat food tins, you can also warm up some Plasticine in your pocket and stick it to the back of these lids for a boost of heat.
  2. Each to there own, took me a little while to get used to them but from then after I seldom use any other trap, Talpax when I get a awkward mole, but you do need to get the genuine putanges.
  3. I personally have never had a problem with thermal identifying quarry that is moving, cats ,dogs,if your to inpatient yes you can some times misidentify an animal,if the quarry is stationary and not moving and I am not 100% certain I don't shoot, usually with movement the quarry is IMO easy to identify with thermal.
  4. Have tried a completely different batch of ammo and also sometimes worth a visual check as well.
  5. I personally never shoot above x8 on my HMR x6 almost all the time never needed any more mag.
  6. Don't forget better by far a scope with parallax adjust cheers good hunting.
  7. I did the same bought an expensive scope to go with the Wolf I had found cheaper better, another mistake I made was I need to use glasses for reading and found to see the screen clearly I needed to were my glasses, some people find the Nitesight World Eagle light Mamite you either love them or hate then I liked them but because of the ir issue move to thermal, you got a good bit of kit get the set up right and you will have loads of fun using it there good on to rimy and perfect for ratting with air rifle.P/s a must have get a scope with parrelax a just on it.
  8. Hello Main Man,ref one of my posts, more expensive lenses have coating on them that can reduce IR wave lengths getting through that is true in IMO I had a variety of scopes and the one that worked best was a £40 Richer Scope the lenses were virtually wiped clean of original coatings ,also the more visible to the human IR you filter out the less distance you get,at 950nm you can still see but at a reduced level the dull red glow 840nm gives you the better distance but also a bigger dull red glow.P/S I got on very well with the Night-site Wolf but decided to to thermal because of the dull red gl
  9. In my experience mate Cage traps are very hit and miss, the best way to go if want cage trap is remove what the rats are coming into your garden in the first instance for then try a few batted traps you will just after put up the hedge hogs, not an ideal control method but you might get a few, don't forget why the rats are coming into your garden remove there access to this food that should solve the problem, there will also be a part off either in your garden or a neighbours were they are living if just be polite and ask them to help control them as well, good hunting.P/S out of all my cage traps
  10. Poison mate in proper poison box the only way I find to adequately control the rat population. Take away there food source then they will go away. Trapping will catch at times but will not in long term be effective. Shoot em with air rifle (good sport) but again same as trapping.
  11. Moderator carbons up making them quieter after quite a few rounds.
  12. Birmingham Bee 4 should be on the above list as well.
  13. This might help a few?,postcode areas were you can with permission from Environment Agency and land owner catch Crayfish. SCHEDULEPARTS OF ENGLAND AND WALES IN WHICH NO LICENCE IS REQUIRED TO KEEP CRAYFISH OF THE SPECIES PACIFASTACUS LENIUSCULUS Column 1 Column 2 Column 3 Postcode Areas Town on which postcode area is centred Postal districts in postcode area within which no licence is required AL St Albans
  14. Got a map from Environment Agency witch is copy righted so cannot put it up here outlining were you can catch Crayfish with there permission, basically anything North of Stock on Trent is a no go area, were south of Stock on Trent is for the odd part you are OK to catch with there permission. Got to agree with what you say bell, only a matter of time before they totally infest all waterways.
  15. Controlling Mink, a good thing they are no so keen on preventing catching Mink in waterways, I trap them on a national trust site that has Otters and provided I follow there rules were all happy.
  16. Probably got to wait for the critters until they completely infest the Eco system, by then to late, any responsible person presume they are if applying for a permit would abide by the rules and do there homework on identification of native species. A good thing there not so keen with Mink.Still find it hard why they so against them being removed by responsible persons,or is it they assume we are all irresponsible. All I understand you keep catching nets full and eventually the population decreases or kept at low level. Just wonder what the Environment Agency plans are to combat
  17. Posted in this forum as well as living of land,(technically trapping),trying to do things the correct way trapping crayfish on the river Rother Yorkshire so I applied for a permit, this was the reply from the environment agency, obviously in my experience of a very long life trapping various vermin and pleasure fishing as well, there logic for refusing a permit don't go down well imo,no wonder there taking over almost all British waterways no one can touch them up north around Yorkshire? Dear applicant Thank you for your application to trap signal crayfish. Unfortunately on thi
  18. This was there reply. Dear applicant Thank you for your application to trap signal crayfish. Unfortunately on this occasion we must decline your application. Yorkshire and its surrounding counties do not allow crayfish trapping due to risks associated with the activity. The three main reasons for this decision are.... The risk of spreading invasive crayfish and aquatic diseases through the use of traps and other equipment. Traps and associated equipment are excellent vectors for invasive crayfish and aquatic diseases to reach new waters. As they
  19. Just had a reply back from the Environment agency after filling in an application permit to catch crayfish in the River Rother Sheffield area, they replied by e.mail say that they do not allow trapping of crayfish except for scientific purposes in Yorkshire waters and surrounding counties, what a load of crap no wonder they are overtaking British waterways no one can touch them.Full reply on request.
  20. f-teen Acr Eddie B,to fair they did say that if i asked for longer chains they would rummage through there stock to find any for me.
  21. Ok I can work around by attaching a cable but my point was knowing what you purchase is what you get, I not entirely in favour of having to adapt after purchase these traps are not getting any cheaper so if the New standard is a shorter chain then I will purchase the ones with cable.
